Need better indoor photos with Old Canon Powershot?

Canon Powershot A200. It's over 6 years old and was never that good with indoor photos. They turn out grainy and dark when printed. I really need this camera for work. Right now I am totally broke and cannot buy a new one. I tried pulling open all the curtains, and turning on all the lamps and bringing all the lamps into one room, but so far, not good enough results. Anyone got any other tips for me?

First thing, I assume you are using a tripod? If not, you MUST. Then set the camera to use ISO of 100 ONLY. Do not let it automatically set it's own ISO. In dark conditions it will set a higher ISO and ALL point and shoots give horrid high ISO photos. Then, when the camera is on the tripod, use the self timer to fire the shutter, or there will be blur due to the movement caused by you pushing the shutter button. Also, of course, I am talking about natural, ambient light photos with NO flash on. Manually set the white balance on the camera to match the ambient lighting conditions.

You should be able to get decent indoor shots with this camera. If you had the "latest and greatest" new camera, you would still get awful indoor shots if you do not follow the above procedures.

The camera has little to do with good photos, the photographer and his / her skill and knowledge of the camera they have makes good photos.

i need the software so i can put pictures on my computer. uhm. i need it for windows vista. please help i cant find it...
well sorrry. im poor. i got it fer 10 friggin bucks and it works fine. so its okay with me.

Seeing that your camera is very outdated (2002), there is no software available for you to download.
So, the only real option would be to go out and buy a CF (or multi) card reader, which plugs into your computer's USB port. You then insert your memory card and it will show up as a removable drive (look in My Computer). You can then copy & paste your images to your hard drive.

And if I were you, I would consider updating to a newer and better camera sometime...

Edit...but you will still need to buy a card reader, which might cost about the same as what your camera cost.

Sony DSLR A200 or Canon PowerShot G9?

Hi Everyone. I have a friend who owns a camera shop and give me great deal on cameras.

Days ago he gave me good price on some cameras and offered me same price on the models mentioned. I have no knowledge on cameras but i have interest on photography and planning to learn and produce professional pictures, so i would really appreciate suggestions.
In addition, which of the 2 mentioned manufacturers is much more dependable (strength and life of the product to be exact.).

If you can choose between the G9 and Sony A200 for the same price - there is no question about it. Get the A200. Even if that price does not include a lens, it's a great price. Of course, you will have to have a lens, so ask about the SONY 18-70 lens that usually comes in the "kit."

As nice as the G9 is, there simply is no comparison between it and almost any digital SLR (DSLR). The G9 sensor is only 43 square millimeters and the Sony's is more than 8 times bigger than that. This will give you so much better an image that you wouldn't believe it.

Besides that, if you ever want to adjust focus, shutter speed or lens aperture (You will.), the DSLR is almost infinitely easier to use.

He's probably giving you such a great price on the A200, because Sony just brought out 2 cameras to replace it on the entry-level end of their line. It is still a fine camera and that's the one you should buy.
