I need a new camera for a photo class, looking at Canon Powershot A2000, or one w/ similar abilities, advice?
I just want a decent camera for a photojournalism class, I have been reading a bunch of reviews and I am a little overwhelmed. I think the Canon Powershot A2000 looks good but I wanted some advice. Has to be at least 8 mega-pixels.
For a class in photojournalism, you will need a camera much better than a simple P&S camera.
Before you spend a cent, talk to your instructor. At a minimum you will need a Nikon or Canon 35 mm SLR with standard zoom lens (you can find good used ones on craigslist for under $200).
You may have to buy a DSLR ($450 with lens on Amazon). I don't know where you got the idea that photojournalists use P&S camera's, because we don't. Actually we use DSLR's that are totally adjustable cameras and carry at least four lenses with us at all times, specialty lenses for shooting sports.
Which camera is the better choice between Fuji finepix z20fd and Canon PowerShot A2000 IS?
I have researched them both online and still haven't come to a decision. I have tried to go to a couple stores to try them out but all the cameras had no batteries at all the stores. Silly, if you ask me.

It's unbelievable that you can now get a 10 Megapixel camera with 12x optical zoom for just over $200. Some surprising features include:
- the ability to do in-camera panoramas. The camera helps you position the 2nd and 3rd shots to match up correctly, but even when I do it hand-held, the result is amazingly seamless.
- exposure bracketing with several choices up to -1 to +1 EV.
- several white balance modes, and of course you can preview what the WB will look like before you take the shot.

is it possible to get a bokeh effect using canon powershot a2000?
how do i do that?
So you want everything except for your subject to have that nice out of focus look?
This isn't very easy to do on a point and shoot or compact digital camera.
I won't give you the long story why it's easier on a dSLR and not so easy on a camera like yours, it won't help you anyway.
Back when I shot almsot everything on a little digital cam, I noticed that I only got shots like that in macro mode.
You can sorta get effects in your standard auto mode by getting as close as you can to your subject, and the camera's natural focus will render the rest of the area sort of out of focus.
Put the cam in macro mode (displayed by a little flower symbol) and take your pics up close to your subject.
There isn't much else you can do that I'm aware of.
Canon Powershot A590 IS or Canon Powershot A2000 IS or Canon Ixus 80 IS?
I'm confused as to which of these three should I get.
A590is - affordable and has excellent reviews :D
A2000is - effective pixels
Ixus 80is - can shoot underwater using case
Also, are there available waterproof cases for the powershots listed? The underwater feature is actually the only reason I listed the ixus. I would prefer cameras that use AA batteries.
Please rank the three according to
my needs: something that will last long, durabe (will be used everyday so it should withstand the constant pressure and shaking inside a bag), good image quality (especially at night and dim lights!!!), battery length
and wish: underwater feature (this would really be just a bonus since I don't go to water areas much)
Thank you!
While most cameras take video, and some camcorders take photos; to get the best of both, you need both. Have not seen a camera that compares with the video from a camcorder and camcorders can't take good quality photos. Suggest the least expensive Canon Camcorder and the Canon A590IS camera.

In new cameras, look for a viewfinder (LCD invisible in bright sun), optical image stabilizer, and check battery prices. High mega pixel settings take longer to process and may not be needed unless required for very large pictures. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches. Click links below for more details.

What gives a camera its picture quality?
It is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures. Megapixel resolution is about potential photo size, not picture quality.
The Canon A590IS is a slightly older model that is available everywhere at great sale prices. Think it is a great camera and a best buy. It has auto focus, a viewfinder, optical image stabilization, and uses rechargeable NiMH batteries.

There is no one particular place to get great buys, but you may see something above that really helps you find the best buy. Click on the second link in the information above for an example then search for your camera of choice at the upper left. Camera prices at this link change often.
For expanded wide angle or telephoto capabilities, the A590 IS is compatible with Canon's accessory lens adapters: A small button next to the lens bezel is actually a latch; press it and you can remove the bezel ring, exposing a bayonet mount for accessory lenses. Canon offers the WC-DC52 0.7x wide-angle lens, the TC-DC52A telephoto lens, the 250D 52mm closeup lens separately, along with the LA-DC52G adapter to mount them on the camera. (Note that the wide, tele, and macro lenses all need the LA-DC52G adapter to mount them to the camera. The lenses won't work by themselves.)
This could be the best slim line camera with a viewfinder and ... It's PINK, but it uses a $49.50 Series G Rechargeable 960mAh lithium-ion battery.

CAUTION Do not overcharge! Batteries can be damaged. Use an automatic two or more hour Energizer Compact smart charger with temperature monitor, trickle charge technology, and safety timer ($9.76) at Walmart. Use pre-charged 2000mAh Duracell ($12.97) or RayOVac ($5.97) batteries (both hold charge one year) and a full cycle charge. To preserve battery charge, use the viewfinder.
CAUTION To prevent memory card corruption, keep batteries charged and don't delete. Wait for lights to stop flashing then turn camera off before removing memory. For card readers, double click Safely Remove Hardware. Select, then click Stop and OK.
Lots of great camera tips in this link.
http://www.danscamera.com/Learning/going_digital/#resolution ...
My camera has 5.2 megapixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7 x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.
Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Once you select a camera, read all about it in the owner's manual. You can view owners manuals at this link, but will need to Login. http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera ...
The source links show most of the cameras out there with prices and make digital cameras work better with help on cleaning camera and battery electrical contacts.

But if you're also interested in quality video, then I would next gravitate to the A2000IS, as it produces video at a higher frame rate than the A590 (thus with smoother looking videos).
And as for durability, none of the three are going to take a beating. Take care of them, even in your bag (maybe use a hard case?). Also make a concentrated effort to keep dirt and sand off these cameras, especially their lens barrels. Otherwise you'll encounter the infamous lens error problem inherent to all digital cameras with telescopic lens barrels.
Should I buy Canon Powershot G10, PowerShot SX1 or SX10 1, PowerShot A2000 to the newest A1100 IS ?
I looking for a solid camera for taking great photo as a hobbyist on anything, really everything like scenery, animal, people and night scenario, low light scene etc. I'm between entry to mid level. I never use a SLR camera before. Thinking to try one, but it does not offer video recording and may seems too bulky. I need something that can take great photo with 'not so complicated' functionality.
I need something that have 28mm wide eg. for group photo, quick shot (not the slow type that take 3sec for a shot like compact), high quality photo result for anything that beautiful, maybe good video resolution too, zoom power, image stabilization. Budget is SGD400 to SGD1000.
Basically a great 'overall' camera that is great for all kind of shooting be it in the park, the beach, outdoors, indoor, food taking, insects, animal, clouds, people, sometime low-light (night time) scenarios, etc.
Or do you have other Model to recommend? Why?
Pls help. I need an overall great in performer camera. I don't hope to overpay for something that not overprice with just 'gimmick; feature not necessary for.
A friend has the g9.
The g9 is an awesome camera.
The g10 improves upon it.
If you don't want a dslr but want those features, the g10 comes closest, but panasonic came out with a camera that has interchangable lenses and is NOT an slr.

accesories for canon digital camera which makes me look like a pro?
haha! so i bought a new canon digital camera a Powershot a2000 IS. are there accessories that can make my photographs look pro and beautiful?
and how do i attach them? pictures would be much appreciated thanks!
Actually, your own photography skills will make your pictures look "pro and beautiful". So just focus on improving your photography skills. Even with a point-and-shoot camera, a person can take some very good pictures. Play around with the manual settings on your camera until you discover what works best for taking pictures under certain conditions. And read about things pertaining to photography, such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO speed, etc.
I am in dilemma to choose between Nikon S550 and Canon IXUS 80IS.Please help me to select..?
What about Canon PowerShot A2000. My only concern with this,is,AA battery. Will it be reliable as Li battery..
Canon powershot A590IS vs. A2000IS: which is the better deal?
This will be my first digital camera. The A590 [4X optical zoom] with case and SD card totals $126. The A2000 [6x optical zoom] with case and SD card is $188. It A2000 is not that well reviewed, but everybody loves the zoom. IS it worth the extra $60?
You've done a good job of shortlisting. Both cameras are good and on the face of it the zoom is the decision maker. However, I would choose the A590IS even if the two were the same price.
As a starting point compare the A590IS with the A1000IS which is identical to the A2000IS but has the same zoom range as the A590IS. The resolution of the two cameras is so similar it doesn't much matter. However, in the A1000IS you have lost the optical viewfinder and you have lost the manual, aperture priority and shutter priority modes. All these things make the A590IS a very attractive camera to those with an interest in photography.
The ability to take manual control when you wish to makes the A590IS a much more versatile tool. You may not think you need that and it really does depend on how interested you get. Since you've put a lot of work in, I think you are probably someone who would resent being locked out of the camera's decision making process.
Does the 6x zoom of the A2000IS make up for the shortcomings of it's near-twin the A1000IS? No, certainly it wouldn't for me.
I'm in the fortunate postion of having an 18x zoom (a Lumix FZ18). I tend to use that in the widest setting a lot. I sometimes zoom in a little, no more than about 4x. And, I ocassionally use it on 18x to try to catch birds. They always need a bit more zoom than I've got, but that's another story. In other words, the vast majority of the time a 4x zoom is all I need and a 6x would offer no significant benefit.
So, for me the A590IS would be the one to go for. If you were prepared to pay a little more, I'd have a close look at the Lumix LZ8. It doesn't have an optical viewfinder but it does have the manual modes. Have a look at this review, in which both the A590IS and the LZ8 are compared with others in broadly the same price range. The A590IS did well, as it usually does in reviews, but it was pipped to the post by the LZ8 in this review...
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/Q408budgetgroup/page8.asp
(For me, it would still be the A590IS!)
Which Digital Camera is better?
Nikon S550 10 MegaPixel or Canon PowerShot A2000 IS.
I would go with the Nikon S550
why?
Rechargeable battery
slim look
ISO 2000 (iso is important for low light situations)
and all the features!! Good luck!
Which digital camera should i buy?
Im on my school's yearbook staff and i really want a camera that can take high quality pictures and good action shots.
The three cameras im looking into are:
Canon PowerShot A2000 IS
Canon PowerShot SD880 IS
Olympus Stylus 1010
Have any of you owned one of these models and noticed it had obvious flaws?
Is there any other models you would suggest?
My price range is from $200-$400.
I would perfer a compact but anything that can fit in my purse is fine.
Thanks :)
Either of the canon models will work fine. The olympus probably not as well. Any of the new canon powershots take great pictures.
