Canon PowerShot A310 Display Problems?

I ma not sure what is wrong with my Canon. When I turn it on to take a picture, the menu options on the LCD monitor still show up, but where the image should be is black with white lines, like a sideways serial bar code. The display still shows the pictures on playback mode, but when I take a picture with the current problems, it appears black with white lines. What is going on?

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

My canon powershot A310 can't take pictures anymore.. help!?

ok so the monitor in the back works, ie, i can view my old pictures without a problem. But when i'm about to take a picture, there's nothing that shows up on the monitor, it's just all black. No matter how i tried to change the settings, with or without the display, all pictures taken just comes out black. I think might be the lens or something in the front that's messed up? Please help. thanks. ( i dont think i dropped it or anything either)

If it is under warranty, take it to the store. It sounds like the camera's computer is causing problems. You may want to try a different memory card first, but there is not much else you can do. These cameras are not designed to be repaired by anyone other than a factory technician. I had a similar problem with my Canon Powershot S2IS a few years ago. I was lucky. It happened a month after the warranty expired, but Canon repaired it without charging me because I had taken it in earlier, the store clerk changed the memory card, and the camera worked.

i have seen this before - look at the lens and take a picture of your self and see if the lens opens as it takes the picture if it does not open you will need to open the lens every time right before you take any picture !

The A310 will be 4 years old next February and I just think it's at the end of it's life.
A new camera will not only provide you with much better image quality, but better, faster & newer technology than the old A310...which btw, only has a fixed focal length of 33mm (it has no optical zoom). For the best image quality, digital zoom should never be used, because the images it produces are quite bad.

there is a key on the camera backside (next to the lcd) - it's called DISP (from display) - try pressing it severall times and see what happens.

also there is the possibility that you have dissabled preview from the menu.

im going to Washington DC in 2 days and my moms digital camera will not show the picture it only show back and it only takes pictures of black. could any one tell me whats wrong with it and how to fix it ? if anyone could tell me you would be a great help i really need this for my trip and throw away cameras are really expensive and only hold like 20 pictures.

Call the Canon (not cannon) help line. 800.OK-CANON and they can help you.

Sorry, but there really isn't much you can do with such an old camera. It was released around 4 1/2 years ago, so is probably at the end of it's life.
A new camera is your best option...

Sometimes not all the times when I want tot take a picture with my digital camera the camera screen is a black with white lines randomly appearing and when taking a picture it shows black?

To get it back to normal I have to take lots of pictures to get the screen normal?

What is going on?

Finger in the way ? maybe the neck strap.

If they are on your computer, you can go here:

Walgreen's will allow you to upload the pictures on to their website and use it as a photo album, and then you can order them printed out at a Walgreen's store close to you. Then just go there a few hours later, and your pictures will be ready.

I use this to print picures for people thousands of miles away - I specify a store close to THEM, then they just drive over and pick them up.
