Any suggestions or online guides on how to reduce noise or grain effectin photos using Canon powershot A550?
Can anyone give tips on how to get perfect photos at night and in day time reducing noise to minimum?
Secondly are the presets in canon powershot a550 like night scene, landscape, portrait worth using or should i use it in auto mode or may be Manual??
Take the ISO out of the "auto" mode and use the lowest ISO your camera supports. You will have to develop your lowlight shooting skills. Use the viewfinder with the camera held next to your eye and cheek using both hands and the camera movement will be minimized
how to pause a video when shooting in canon powershot a550?
is canon powershot a550 is good?
You just have to stop shooting and then restart when you have reset the scene and start shooting again.
The canon powershot A550 is a great little still photography camera .. if you really want to shoot video, buy a video camera ...it will make your life much easier.
Why does my camera (Canon Powershot A550) keep telling me I need to change the batteries?
I've tried new batteries and still get the message that I need to change the batteries and then it turns itself off...any ideas?
check if you are using NiCad (nickel-cadmium) rechargables.
these hold a memory effect, and can reduce the voltage level even when fully charged.
If not contact the place you got the Camera
If so what type of batteries are you using?
Using the cheap carbon batteries will cause the problem you are having because they can supply very little current, and a digital camera requires quite a bit.
If this is the case I would advise going for Alkaline, they will last slightly longer but not for ages.
It may be cheaper in the long term to buy some rechargables, such as Lithium Ion or Nickel-Cadium (Ni-Cad), these can supply alot more current, I think the best recharables you can get on the market now is around the 2700mAH, or 2.7Ah AA batteries.
This means that each one of those battries can either supply one amp for 2.7 hours or, 2.7 amps for 1 hour. Thats very good for a small AA battery. You will find these batteries will last you ages.
The amount of time your batteries will last inside your camera also depends on things such as if you use the flash, using the flash alot will drain your batteries quickly because of the charging circit, and other factors such as if you are constantly zooming in and out.
If the camera has a specific rechargable (this also applies if you buy normal rechargables), ensure you do not totally run the battery dry and dont half charge the battery before using it again as they have a "memory" effect and the next time you charge them, they will only charge to the smae level as you took them off before.
Hope this helps...

I have a Canon PowerShot A550 and I was taking pics today at my nephew's?
birthday party,A few times I tried to take a picture the screen was mostly black and only a bit of of light showing. I turned it off and waited a few minutes and it was fine. It did this twice today but it went back to normal after I turned it off for a few minutes. Did I break it?
Sounds like low batteries to me.
Does the Canon Powershot A550 take picture immediately after pressing button?
I'm thinking of buying this camera because the very old HP camera I have seems like it is going to bite the bullet soon. It's not acting like itself. Anyways, the problem that we have had with it from the start is that I press the button to take a picture and it doesn't snap the picture until 30 seconds (maybe exaggerating) later. It is so frustrating b/c I ALWAYS miss the moment! I just want to make sure this camera doesn't have the same problem before I purchase it. I don't want to have to deal with any delay at all since I have a toddler who's picture I am taking and she doesn't stay still for long! Thanks for your help!
You can set the 550 on a contnous drive shooting mode,
which works great without the flash of course.. you can
take a series of photos in seconds...
There are a couple of things you can do to shorten that lag.
Pre-focus the camera by pressing the shutter release part way down before choosing the right moment to take the shot.
Shut off the flash unless your REALLY need it.
The only cameras that truly allow the photographer to get the image "in the moment" are DSLR cameras. They work just like their older brothers the SLR.
Canon is an excellent brand choice...the A550, being a very good entry level camera with little shutter lag. But, when you use the flash, it's a much different story and the camera will slow down, so try to avoid using the flash as much as possible. You will need plenty of available light in that situation.
Though, if you could afford to spend a few extra dollars...the next model up, the A560 would make a better choice, as it features Canon's latest Digic III processor, has a larger and higher res. LCD (115,000 pixels versus a measly 86,000 pixels on the A550)...as well as other improved features (the A550 has Digic II).
Here is an excerpt from one review...
"The Canon PowerShot A550 is a very good entry-level digital camera, and one that I can recommend easily. I'm going to do something a little unusual, though: I'm going to recommend that you pay $30 more for its big brother, the PowerShot A560. Why? For the speed and improved photo quality of the DIGIC III processor, a larger/sharper LCD, longer movie record times, and a tool that ends the annoying redeye problem that has plagued the A-series cameras for some time. Whichever camera you end up choosing, you'll get a well designed body, good photo quality, and plenty of point-and-shoot features (with a few manual controls thrown in for good measure)."
Don't forget to buy a good, high speed SD memory card (Sandisk Extreme III is excellent). This is needed for fast camera performance and shooting high quality movies. Format it (in the camera) before first use and regularly after that, to help prevent card errors. Always make sure all photos have be downloaded to your PC before formatting.
Also, these cameras feature certain 'scene modes'. The 'kids & pets' mode might be best to use if you want to take photos of your active toddler.
Anyway, read the reviews of both cameras...but for a few more dollars, the A560 is a good buy...because of it's larger & higher res. LCD and better features. But, if you don't, then the A550 should be just fine. And if you want slightly better features than those two (including an image stabilizer), then the A570 IS is the one to get.
good luck...I'm sure you'll be happy with whichever model you choose.
try one out in a store
i have one too
but try this: try holding down the button to take the picture just a little, so a red light goes on, then when the special moment comes a few seconds later, pres it all the way down without lifting up you finger, and BAM the picture is taken
how to use canon powershot A550 digi camera as wewbcam as well?
not possible
what's the difference between the canon powershot A550 and A560?
Main differences: A550 – DIGIC II image processor, 2.0 inch LCD 86,000 pixels
A560 – DIGIC III image processor, Face detection AF, 2.5 inch LCD 115,000 pixels, ISO 1600
how can you cancel the flash in canon powershot a550 digital camera?
thank you. :)))))
The right hand part of the circular switch, keep pressing till its off
What's your opinion on the Canon PowerShot A550 for taking shots of my children? What other alternatives?
The PowerShot A550 is one of the best cameras you can get in that price point. I would recommend possible getting the next model up with built in Image Stabilization. This will come in handy especially when zoomed in to prevent blurry images.
Abt Canon PowerShot A550 digital camera?
How much does a Canon PowerShot A550 digital camera cost in India.. Suggest some good shops in Bangalore.
Go to Photospeed on Brigade Road, its an old and well-established shop.
It's closer to the top of the road, after Sony, and on the left side of the road. I got a really nice Olympus from there.
