- 4 Aa batteries mean that you don't have to payment a possession battery pack and you can refill at any store

- The only drawback is its size, if you want a "pocket" camera this is not for you, the large size does make it easy to hold and carport for using the timer. Read more. Canon PowerShot A610 Camera test

A test of a camera i have always had and i have seemed to have lost my Samsung U-10 camera so i may use this one from now, I don't know you be ...

Is it possible to use my Canon Powershot A610 as a web cam? If so, links for drivers?

I was just wondering if it's possible to use my digital camera (which has video capabilities), a Canon Powershot A610 as a web cam? I can plug it in to my computer to transfer video and images but I can't record while it's plugged in. If it came with software, I no longer have it. So does anyone have some links for drivers so my digital camera will work as a webcam? :]

Thanks.

No, you can't use it as a webcam. You will have to get a separate webcam and they can be purchased really cheaply now. I've seen them costing less than £5 (probably not very good quality) so just buy a webcam which is built for purpose.

My Canon Powershot A610 is connected to my computer with a USB cord but isn't connecting?

My Canon Powershot A610 is connected to my computer with a USB cord but the computer isn't registering that it is in. The camera doesn't require a CD and should automatically work. I also went to Scanners and cameras to add it but it isn't on the list.
It IS on and anything not bought?

Get a card reader, they are cheap and very handy to use. You would put the card from your camera in the reader and open the reader as a drive in MyComputer, then also open MyDocuments/MyPictures and drag and drop your photos into the file.

It the camera turned on?

Just use a USB card reader and avoid the problem all together.

Is there a way to transfer my photos from my computer to my Canon PowerShot A610 with my card reader?

I have a Canon PowerShot A610 and a cheapo card writer that i got for under $10 at Wal-Mart. I tried to transfer the files to the card and that worked fine. But when I put the card into the camera, they aren't picked up. There were files on the card but my camera went into low-power mode and they got erased. Did I need the folders on the camera to view the files? Can I get them back? I have a presentation to do on my photography and I was hoping to hook my camera up to the television to show my photos. Is there a way to fix this?
The photos were taken with that camera.

The camera will only read files/pictures that it took. If you edit these files or if you try to use the camera as a photo viewer (of fotos it did not take), it will not work.

I dont think the files were erased. They should still be in the memory stick. But for your presentation, I suggest you use a laptop/notebook.

perhaps the pictures are not able to be read on the camera
(most likely pictures that were not taken on the camera will not work)

yes, but most cases it can't read those edited picture from your pc but it is not harmful to your units.

Did you put the files in the same folder as the other pics and did they have their original file names?

What camera should I upgrade to? I have a Canon PowerShot a610 now.?

I am contemplating buying a nicer camera. I have a Canon PowerShot a610 which unfortunately broke after 2 yrs of use (my fault). I had an extended warranty that covered the dropped camera, but unfortunately the camera that they sent as a replacement is an PowerShot a560 which feels cheap and does not have the nice swivel viewfinder. So I was going to sell that one and want to buy something nicer.

I picked the a610 because it had good reviews, had little delay in taking pictures and (for the time) great battery life. I am no camera pro ie aperture and exposure are things I would prefer the camera figure out for me. I take photos indoors and outdoors, but will be visiting the southwest a lot in the future so probably more outdoors. Any brand is fine, but I'd like to stay under $600.

Thanks!

Given your experience with the 610, I would suuggest you stay with Canon, an the buttons and menu's will all be familiar to you.

The A650IS is the newer version of the A610, and has the added benefit of Image Stabilization (IS) to help remove the hand shake that can cause blurry photos.

If you want to move up to something with more zoom, take a look at the Canon S5 IS, which is a bit bigger, but has the swivel screen and a great 12X zoom, which will be useful for your outdoor photography.

You can check this libk for recovering files from memory cards and flash drives

What camera is the successor to the Canon PowerShot A610?

I was wondering what is the newer version or the successor to the Canon PowerShot A610. Here's the page at Canon for the A610.

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=145&modelid=11998

The A710 guess is wrong. Tom is right with the A640, but they have come out with a new A650-IS that would supercede the A640, which does not have "IS."

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=183&modelid=15658

The A610 was upgraded to the A620 (my son's camera), the A630 (my brother's camera - a GREAT value), the A640 and now the A650-IS.

Is it possible to charge my canon powershot A610 using a the usb port built into the camera?

I read a review about the Griffin PowerBlock AC charger in which the customer stated they could charge their camera via this usb charger. However, the PowerBlock is intended for i-pod charging.
Also, has anyone noticed a difference between the generic AC Adapter Kits and name brand? Do these AC adapter Kits actually recharge the batteries when plugged into the camera?

No it's not possible.

The USB port usually allows only 200-250 milliamps of power, which is about 1/10 the amount of a single AA-rechargeable battery. It would take forever to recharge a digital camera that way because it consumes so much power (WAY more than an iPod). That's why companies don't even bother with something like that for digital cameras.

How do I upload pictures to my computer with my Cannon Powershot A610?

I have Win XP and usually with my old camera when i plugged it in with the cable a pop up would come up and through there I could upload photos.... but that's not happening with this one. I have it hooked up with the cable to my computer and turned on and it still won't show me any signs of how to upload them.

The camera MAY need to be turned on to view mode (where you can view the pictures on the camera). This may then start the scanner and camera wizard.

If not, try another USB port or try plugging the camera into another computer.

If the camera is not being recognized at all, on any computer, contact Canon's tech support. In the meantime, purchase a memory card reader so you can transfer the pictures to your computer.

Should I trade in my Canon PowerShot A610 for a Canon PowerShot SD600 ?

I have a Canon PowerShot A610 right now and it seems too bulky to carry around with me. It's a 5mp camera and the image quality is the best I've seen from a digital camera in its class.

I am wondering if I can expect the same picture quality from the Canon PowerShot SD600 6mp camera? I know megapixel doesn't tell you anything about image quality, so will someone with experience with Canon digital cameras please tell me if selling my A610 for a SD600 is worth it?

The SD 600 is a temptation, but the sensor is about half the size of the sensor in the A 610. I don't know what advances may have been made in a couple of years, but I doubt the pictures in the SD 600 would be any better than the A 610. If you want a small camera that has a larger sensor, look into the SD 900. It costs a lot more than the SD 600, but it's still pocket-sized.

What are the differences between a Canon PowerShot A610 and A620?

Which model would you recommend for a first time digicam owner? Which is better in taking action shots, or do you have another digicam to recommend?
Which digicam would you rather have?

A610 - 5.3 megapixels, shooting speed is approx. 2.4 fps
A620 - 7.2 megapixels, shooting speed is approx. 1.9 fps

These are the only differences I could find in the two. If I had to choose between the two I would go with the A620.

If you are wanting to take actions shots I suggest looking at the Canon Powershot S2 IS 5MP w/12x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom.
