A good digital camera to replace my Canon Powershot A620 with time lapse?

There was a time when I knew how to transfer photos from my camera to my computer. I know I come across as stupid, but, um, I need help. (And yes, my camera is connected to my machine)

How do I do it? I've tried opening Zoombrowser, I've tried opening Camera Window, I've tried pressing buttons on my camera--nothing works.

What do I do? lol.

ive heard you can get your digital camera to work as a webcam. how do you do that ? like to know how to do it.. i have been confirmed that my camera is capable of working as one..

As far as I know, the A620 cannot be used as a webcam.
You can only use Remote Capture...which means you can plug it into the USB port and control the camera from your PC via the Browser software that came with the camera., but not use it as a webcam.

Im trying to take close up or portraits shots, and the flash is ruining the picture, making it brighter than its natural colors. im not good with camera, so please anyone, can you give me easy directions to turn it off? thanks

I'm not familar with the A620 but have owned 3 A-series Canon's, currently using the A570IS. In all of them it was the same, press the top end of the round control on the back of the camera, ie if it were a clock face push the 12 oclock bit.

You'll see a flash symbol, ie a lightning rod, a big rod means full or manual flash, a smaller rod with an A next to it means automatic flash and a rod with a bar across it means the flash is manually turned off (on the screen).

If anyone jokingly suggests sticking your thumb over the flash, don't. For a brief moment it's extremely hot and needs to cool evenly - you can crack the glass doing that.

You need a steady hand and stationary subject in lower light without flash but it can be a MUCH nicer pic!

I assume you're referring to the quality as it is controlled by the JPEG compression level... although you may mean the resolution... so while that's not clear, I'll point you to both:

1. Set mode switch to "shooting" (looks like little camera)
2. Press Func./Set button
3. Use arrow button to select the Func. menu and then use the down arrow to select the resolution option (bottom left corner of the screen).
4. In the lower left corner, you'll find the letter "L", "Mx", or "S". This shows your current resolution 3072x2304 to 640x480). Use the side arrow keys to select your preferred resolution.
5. When you're done, use the up arrow to select that little quarter circle or stairstep shape (just above the letter for the resolution setting). This is for setting compression quality.
6. Select very fine ("S" in quarter circle), fine (quarter circle without "S"), or normal (looks like stairstep).
7. Press Func./Set button

What's appropriate will depend entirely upon what you want to do with the images. For posting on the web, photos at resolutions above 1600x1200 (already too large for most purposes) are pointless. So save some memory and shoot at that level for the web. For printing, the value of more pixels will depend upon the size of the print. Your 2592x1944 will make a very nice 8x10 photo if you keep the compression set to "S".

Maybe I need to buy a separate part, but I'm pretty sure it can be done. In the menu there is a "Playback Sound Volume" option, and it is up all the way...

I think I have a very simple solution for you. Go into your camera's setup MENU (the folder with the tool icons).
You will find...MUTE at the top of the list. Make sure...OFF is selected.

I think this will work, because I just tried it out on my Canon camera. I shot a video with the MUTE on (which recorded no sound) and then re-selected MUTE off...and, voila! sound.

Try it...

p.s. Playback volume is only for the playback volume of recorded movies or sound memos.

You have a very high resolution camera. Web cams are very low resolution cameras. That is how they are able to send streaming video over the Internet.

the powershot a620 is an excellent camera. i myself own a powershot a95 and a canon 30D SLR, and the a620 is a newer model of the a95. the powershot series are imho the best point-n-shoot cameras made. you really can't go wrong with a canon.

I don't think Canons have Night Vision. That's a Sony feature.
