Canon Digital Camera PowerShot A70 can show menus without any problem but cant shoot any video or pictures?
Canon Digital Camera PowerShot A70 can show menus without any problem but cant shoot any video or pictures. The LCD it self can not show pictures on it, please help.
I agree that this sounds like a problem with the CCD. This problem was acknowledged by Canon a couple of years ago. The other answer discussing this provided a link to Canon Europe. In case you are in the US, I will provide a link to the US site for getting your camera repaired.
The A70 is an excellent camera for its specs and has better image quality than my father's 6-month-old Kodak. Fortunately I have not had any problems with my A70.
Is your flash card working fine?
If corrupt you should see an error. Trying a card reader or another device to test the card.
Do you see error messages or no response from your buttons?
If no response, go to the service centre.
LCD is showing menus but not pictures? Do you have empty flash card? Corrupt/spoilt flash card?
Canon have a free replacement scheme (for the faulty component, not the whole camera) provided that this is the fault.
Does sound like though.
The info is here:
The advantages are...
much better photo and video quality
faster operation
better features
Where can I find software for the canon powershot A70?
I went to the canon website and they only have the update software available. Iwas given the camera as a gift and I have the usb cable and manual just no software. I dont own a cf card reader and would like to use the camera as a web cam also , Isthis possible?
I don't know about using the camera as a web cam, but a card reader is cheap enough if you can't find the software. (I'm not saying that you CAN'T use it as a web cam - I just am not familiar with that.)
If you end up having to pay for a new USB cable, consider buying a card reader instead. This will work with any camera you buy in the future, as well.
If you get a card reader, no additional software is necessary. This is not only faster, but it saves your camera batteries. Your computer or printer may even have a card reader built into it. I have enough USB ports that I just leave it plugged in all the time.
First of all, be sure there are some pictures on the card. Plug the card reader into an open USB port. Plug the card into the appropriate slot on your card reader. I use Photoshop Elements and as soon as I plug my card into the reader, it starts its own card reader and displays a thumbnail of every picture on the card.
If this does not happen automatically, open your photo editing software. Do whatever you usually do to open a file, but click on the selector where you can change drives. Your card reader will be assigned a new drive name that will be one letter higher than you ever saw before, such as "Drive G:" or such. Then, just double click on the name of the file you want to open and it will appear in your photo editor.
I have Canon Powershot A70. The LCD screen is fussy and doesn't always work. Any ideas?
I just wanted to clarify, when I mean the screen is fussy I mean that sometimes the screen will just be black and other times it will just be black and when light strikes the lens it shows up as purple lines. When I play with the memory card sometimes it will work but not for long. Finally, when I take a picture, if the screen is messed up, the picture will look like the screen. Thanks for your help.
It sounds like your camera may be experiencing the CCD problem for which Canon is offering a free repair. Go to the website in the sources list to get more info.
I have a Canon PowerShot A70 Digital Camera and the screen is blacked out.?
I can go into the MENU, DISPLAY & FUNCTION menus and click around, but when I attempt to take pictures, I can't see the image i'm looking at and the pictures come out black.
What should I do?
1st make sure your lens is open. I know it sounds silly, but many people make that mistake. If you still see black, check the contrast/white balance settings on your camera, and make sure they aren't too screwy, which could also cause a black screen. If those don't work then your sensor is probably ruined, and it will most likely cheaper to buy a whole new camera than to replace it, unless you have a very expensive camera. How do I use the movie mode in my Canon A70 powershot digital camera?
I'm away in another country and don't have my user manual. Can anyone tell me how to use the "movie mode" feature in my Canon A70Powershot digital camera? I know to turn the wheel to the movie camera selection of course, but then I believe there are a couple of steps to initiate and then stop the movie taking mode, -thanks for any help!
Yes, you need to turn the mode dial to the little movie camera icon...and then you simply press the shutter button half way down to get your exposure, white balance and focus settings...then press it all the way down to start recording.
And just press the shutter button again to stop recording.
Why does my canon powershot a70 have some 'banding' on some pics?
by banding i mean horizontal thin lines, not always obvious untill you look closer.
the banding is actually on the image in the camera, i've never bothered printing those. i think it may be cf card related...poor connection mayby.
A70 is a listed model which had problems with its CCD.
There is a well known problem with a batch of sony supplied CCD's affected many models of camcorder and digital still's camera, here is a link to the Canon site, where you will get advice on a free repair (should this be the problem, sounds like it is though)

Can I use a 1 gb or larger compactflash card in my Canon Powershot A70?
The manual only discusses sizes up to 256 mb. and the bigger capacity chips weren't available when I bought the camera.
No problem whatsover. I have a 2GB compactflash in my A70 and it works perfectly. You might want to get the faster compactflash (Sandisk calls it Ultra II). It will process and store the picture faster so that you don't miss the next shot. Here's a link to the Sandisk Ultra II product line: http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Default.aspx?CatID=1061
how can i print picture from canon powershot a70 to my computer?
No, you will first have to copy them to your computer and use the photo program to print to a printer or take the memory card with you into the photo lab and load the image from the card
What is the resolution of Canon powershot A70?
3.2 Megapixel
