I have a Canon PowerShot A80 digital camera and the display has a problem - any ideas on what it is?
The display now flickers with horizontal lines and it will vary with lighting conditions. The resulting photo is not right after the photo is taken so I know it is just not the screen that is problematic, it continues onto the resulting photo. It is probably some kind of lighting sensor I am guessing. What do you guys think?

There was a problem with the CCD image processor, and the good thing is, is that Canon will fix it for free since it was a known problem onthis and other models too. They offer to ship it to me for free also.
First call the Canon help line, 800.OK-CANON
My guess is there may be a known issue with that model
Are there different quality settings for taking videos on the Canon PowerShot A80?
Why is the video quality so poor on this camera? Are there settings to improve the video quality? I wish I could find my manual.
If you lost your book, simply go to the Canon website and download a new one.

Ah, the A80, one of my all-time fav Canon point and shoots :-)
1. Press the "Func" button once.
2. Press the right side of the circular button once to select 10 seconds on the timer.
3. Press the "Func" button once more.
4. Press the shutter button once and get in the picture!.

my bother and brother in law also had similar problems with their Canon A80. This i think is a product defect that needs looking into.
I'm not really sure what the problem with the A80 is. You don't say if all photos downloaded to your PC have problems, or if it's only the LCD that's faulty.
If it's all the photos, then it's most likely the sensor. Or, if only the LCD screen is affected, then it's the...LCD.
Either way, your best option would be to update to a new camera.
The A80, even though it was a very popular model (in it's time)...is quite outdated at almost 4 years old and has been superceded at least a dozen times.
Unfortunately, nothing (especially electronic devices such as digital cameras), lasts forever.
The benefits of updating are...better, newer & faster technology, photos and features (including movie mode). Canon, currently have some very good models worth considering.

Its got to be something in your settings. Go through the menu and look around. I bet you can find it. I love my Canon digital camera..IT ROCKS! Good luck in fixing it!
Should I use Panasonic Ni-MH AA 2100mAh Batteries for a Canon Powershot A80? Or are those too weak?
Yes they should be perfectly fine, because the A80 is quite an old camera, so probably wouldn't benefit from using anything more powerful.
If the 2500's are not much dearer, then I would go with those, though.
My canon powershot a80 just suddenly stopped working..any advice?
Check the batteries to make sure that they are fully charged.
Also clean the electrical contacts for the batteries.
Be sure that the battery compartment door actually seals shut.
I have an old camera that works fine except for that. It would cost more to fix than the camera is worth so I just left the top of an older tripod on it to hold the compartment shut. Good enough for the glove compartment backup.
