What is the maximum compact flash size for a Canon Powershot G2?
Is there a limit to the CF size on the Canon Powershot G2? Its an old camera that I am looking to take on a long trip and dont mind if it gets banged up.
The G2 doesn't support the FAT32 file system, so it's limited to CF cards that are 2GB or smaller. Of course, since it's creating relatively small files, you'll get a ton of pictures on a 2GB CF card.
You didn't mention how long your were going to be gone. If you are taking your notebook computer with you to keep up with your email and YA!, you can always copy your images over to you computer and then format your card on the camera.
How to add an external flash to a Canon Powershot G2?
Hi, I am trying to figure out how to add an external flash to a Canon Powershot G2. I am trying to figure out how or what item to use to add a flash to the "hot shoe(is this what it is called?)" on top of the camera. I saw on the Canon page the suggestion to get a "High-Power Flash HF-DC1" but the picture of this has it mounting on the side of the camera, not using the area on the top of the camera - that I thought was for a flash.
I am thinking of buying a flash because I was asked to do the photos for a friends wedding - that is being held in a dimly lit multipurpose room.

The hot shoe is not where wedding photographers typically mount their flash units .. it is not usually high enough to avoid red-eye problems.
You can purchase a Canon Off-camera shoe adapter which will allow you to mount the flash higher using a flash bracket.
Check with your local pro camera store and see what they have you can use.

Try the movie camera symbol on the mode dial. Press the shutter your recording video, press again stops it.
You can only record 30 seconds of video at a resolution of 320 X 240 at a paltry 15 frames a second (25 frames a second is required for real time video). 120 seconds at 160 X 120.
If all else fails read the manual.

Canon Powershot G2 issue?
I have canon powershot G2, its working great so far but when I take picture it takes more time to get ready for second picture. I mean it takes more time between taking 2 pictures.
The G2 is older (but very good) technology, so another possibility is that you could speed up the time it takes to capture an image by buying a faster CompactFlash card. We recently put a 512mb Sandisk Ultra II in my wife's G2, and it captures and downloads images noticeably faster now. They're usually grossly over-priced at Best Buy, but very reasonably priced at places like buy.com and newegg.com.

Simplest/cheapest solution for an external flash for the powershot G2 to reduce red eye? Would the Speedlite 220EX be sufficient (or do I need to go up to the 380EX or the 430EX)?

The further you can get the flash from the lens, the better it will be for redeye reduction.
The 220 will do it, but the the others will do it better simply because they are taller.
Also, a tilt head will allow you to bounce the light around, which the 220 can't do.
Canon Powershot G2- Downloading Picture Problem?
I'm having some problems downloading the pictures on the computer. I plug the G2 using the USB port and I turn the camera on. Then, the computer recognizes that the camera is connected but it doesn't show the camera onto My Computer. Do you know what's wrong? I've tried downloading the software and it doesn't work? Is there a problem with the camera or the computer?
What else can I do?

They are very cheap, and overall the better method for uploading, anyway.

SLR means Single Lens Reflex. It describes the mechanical method the camera uses to allow the image to pass through the lens onto the medium that catches the image. It can describe either digital camera or the 35 mm film camera.
DSLR stands for DIGITAL SLR.
What's the macro setting on a camera and how do you use it?
Just curious. Just got a Canon PowerShot G2 from the thrift store for $8 and I want to take some high quality pics. I've heard of taking 'macro shots' but just wanna know how to take good ones, etc.
I know I'm lucky... haha.. This is a great camera that retails for $800 new online even though it's a few years old. I love all the advanced features of this. ;-)
True macro photography on a 35mm camera is to photograph a small item at a ration of 1:1. In other words, life size.
All macro photography requires a tripod. For your camera, a small tabletop one will be sufficient. In 35mm, you would move the camera back and forth toward your subject until it is in sharp focus and then take the image. I'm not sure how your G2 works with macro so you'll have to experiment. Also, you won't be using the flash so you might want to have some stiff white cards available to use as light reflectors.
