Does the Canon Powershot G7 have remote control ability?
Most of Canon's Powershot's G series had remote control option, some cameras even came standard with a remote. I need a remote control for a project and would like to use the current model, G7. Does anyone know if the G7 has a remote option.
Checked their website and many camera reviews sites but no one mentions a remote.
Thanks.
Update, Canon responded to me and said none of their pro-sumer digital cameras support a wireless remote.
Good thing eBay carries plenty of older models.
thanks guys for the help
The only one listed is the ability to control the camera through a PC using the included Remote Control software.
and read all about it
the manual will help you understand all of the features
go to the support section
good luck
How do you compare between Nikon P5100, Canon Powershot G9, Canon Powershot G7 and Canon IXUS 960IS?
I plan to get one of these.
canon powershot g9
key comparisons:
shutter lag
lens size that comes standard
weight
power system type - battery type
other comparisons:
viewer type and size
button arrangement (big hands need a wider spacing)
ease of menus
format types (jpeg, raw, etc)
cost
these are what I compare systems by.
go to buying guide, then choose side by side

Where can I find a Canon Powershot G7 for the cheapest price?
They should be pretty cheap now that the successor has been announced, the G9.
http://www.dpreview.com/news/0708/07082005canong9.asp
Buydig has it at $469. I'd be very wary of any retailer that is much cheaper than that. Usually, if the deal sounds too good to be true... it is.
Is Canon PowerShot G7 a Digital SLR camera?
no
but it is as good as one
you can find out more about this G7 camera here :
http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/digitalcameras/0,39005881,39270466p,00.htm?
i am also new to dSLRs but i have since found out the differences :
1) a dSLR consists of a camera body and a separate lens which you attach to the body - as such, you can attach a variety of lens to your camera body so long it is supported.
2) the dSLR cannot zoom/unzoom the lens automatically like a compact digital, you can to rotate the lens manually.
3) most digital compact cameras can record movies but this cannot be done on a dSLR.
4) lastly, this is hard to believe and get used to initially, but you cant take photos using the lcd as a live preview - you have to use the view finder, and it is troublesome if you are wearing specs ...
Hope this helps a little :)
Canon Powershot G7 3rd party wide angle lenses?
Does anyone know any 3rd party company that sells wide angle lenses (preferably less than 0.55x wide angle) for the Canon Powershot G7? and if they ship overseas to Australia?
Tamaron and Sakr both make "extension" lenses for non-Slr digital cameras. I have a Set of Sakr's for my two Fuji's.....I got them from B&H Photo(b&hphotovideo.com) But I know J&R sells them also(google them for URL). I believe the Canon G series has a "smooth" Lens...so you will need a sleeve. I know the Sakr's come with sleeves. My Fuji's have threaded barrels so they don't use the sleeves. I believe they both ship to the land down under!!
Canon Powershot G7 owners?
Can anyone who owns a Canon Powershot G7 give me some advice, pointers or sort of instructions on all the settings? I have had this camera for a little over 3 months and I'm okay at understanding while experimenting, but I would rather already know and just take the shot instead of taking it and checking if it looks ok.
Can anyone help?
The problem, Jahs, is that taking a (technically) excellent photo instead of just an "ok" one, goes way, WAY beyond simply knowing to use the X setting or the Y value. If you have already read the basic user manual...
http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/0900001302/PSG7CUGba-EN.pdf
... and the advanced one, too...
http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/0900001301/PSG7CUGad-EN.pdf
... (and if not, you most definitely should), you might have noticed that even the advanced one doesn't even begin to cover the most "subtle" and "trick of the trade" techniques and procedures that you seem to be asking about. And it doesn't do so even though it's a reasonably lengthy and detailed manual. Why? Because it'd take about five times more than that length to explain it all. And, for the same reason, it's not viable for us to explain it all to you here.
I could tell you, for example, that the sharpest aperture setting for the G7, its "sweet spot", is around f/3.5 - f/4.0, and therefore advise you to use the aperture priority mode (A), adjust that setting, and let the camera decide shutter speed, maybe even the ISO sensitivity setting (setting the ISO wheel to Auto).
But the camera isn't any smarter than that. For some situations, you'll need to use a larger aperture to compensate for less-than-ideal light conditions, and at some (largely undeterminate) point it'd just be better to switch to shutter priority mode (S), set the slowest shutter speed you're comfortable with (meaning the one you know it won't cause image blur due to either camera shake -and image stabilization needs to be taken into account for this- or subject motion -with with the aforementioned stabilizer won't help-), set the ISO to either Auto or High, and pray that the photo doesn't come out either too dark or too grainy; knowing when to resort to using the flash (and at which settings) is also a question barely answered in a line or two. Yet, in other situations (facing the sun, trying to achieve the "silky water" effect...) you'll find that the camera can't choose a shutter speed fast enough (and an ISO low enough, should you have it in Auto mode) to compensate for the excess of light, at which point you might as well remember to use the internal ND filter... but this feature cuts the light three full EV stops short, which many times will be a bit too much (maybe not so much for "facing the sun" pictures, but certainly so for the "silky water" ones), so you'll likely have to find a whole different balance between aperture, shutter speed, ISO and ND filter settings... or just jolly recompose the framing so that you don't need those same settings.
I could tell you, for example, that there now is a third-party Canon G7 firmware that, properly loaded, allows you to use many new functions that the camera doesn't have out-of-the-box. One of them is the RAW image format, which in itself merits (or, more accurately, needs) a whole, long explanation about it to know how to use it to achieve a potentially better picture quality and post-processing margin.
The long and short of it is, Jahs, that it really would be better to ask about specific issues, rather than a "tell me everything"-like question.
I'd be happy to answer them, by the way.
Whats the canon powershot G7 like?
been looking for a decent compact digicam and have been thinking bout a nikon P5100 or canon G9, but what about the G7 its a lot cheaper than the G9 and apart from the G9 and having RAW capability and a bigger LCD is there any other differences/advantages to one over the other?
I have a G6 that has seen a lot of use. The G7 lacks RAW, and the lens is a tad slower. I'm sure it is a great camera all the same. You probably won't be disappointed. It's not very compact, though. The G9 may have better noise control at higher ISO. Try www,dpreview.com for specs and reviews on that or other cameras.
Is the body of the Canon powershot G7 magnesium alloy?
look at G7 reviews
it should tell you
just bought a canon powershot g7 4 hours ago and noticed the zoom is kinda jerky. is this normal?
it will zoom when i first turn it on normally, after a couple min.it will start to act funny. Should i return it? note: i charged the batts for about 30 min, which is not a full charge, but i dont think it should be doing that.
I fully agree with Pichi...You're probably just a little too impatient and you want to use the camera straight away.
But, you have to charge the battery fully, which should only take approx. 90 mins. I suggest you READ your user manual.
I'm sure the camera is perfectly fine...it just needs a lot of power to operate correctly and a partially charged battery is not going to provide the camera with enough power.
good luck...
