I own a Canon PowerShot S10 camera and i cannot download m.y files ito my pc unless it uses win98 format.?

Well.....that camera was released in (wait for it)...

1999!!!

And, the S10 NEVER had a movie/video feature, so I don't understand what a 'video' symbol is...maybe you have given us the wrong model number or it's a different symbol?

They're both good cameras, particularly given how small they are. The Canon is a bit more compact overall, but the Casio is thinner, so it may actually be more pocketable.

The imagers are comparable.. the 10Mpixel of the Casio might have the edge in well lit areas, while the Canon's 8Mpixel sensor is likely to do a bit better in darker shots. Either one is fine for enlargements beyond 8x10.

The Canon has full blow optical image stabilization, which lets you take sharp photos without blur in low-light. I have used their system -- it works very well. Casio doesn't have this, but it has a novel approach called Auto Shutter... it will wait until you're holding the camera perfectly still before it shoots. Probably not as good, but it should help.

The Casio has the edge in video, which may or may not be important to you. It can shoot in MPEG-4 at slightly higher than standard camcorder resolutions, and it also has a YouTube mode, optimizing video for YouTube upload. The Canon's video mode is Motion JPEG, which is quite high quality, but uses far more memory per second to store. You cannot zoom in movie mode with the Canon; I did not find whether you can with the Casio, but that's another thing to watch out for in movie mode on still cameras.

For use, the Casio's screen is larger, which is sometimes a nice thing. The Canon offers a tiny optical viewfinder, which would be useful if you really want to save power by keeping the LCD turned off.

Most of the "should I buy this or that" are pretty easy, but these are both really good cameras, and you can see that in the review links I posted, too. It's really going to be a matter of individual choice. You can get the Casio in colors and it's practically iPod-thin, but the Canon actually looks a little smaller. I would strongly recommend going to a store to play around with both of them... sometimes there's just some interaction you like better with one or the other... one's easier to hold (an actual issue with small cameras), or whatever.

I actually looked at both of these when I went camera shopping earlier this year... I wanted an "always around" camera with video support, for when I can't drag along DSLRs or full blown video cameras. I wound up getting the Panasonic DMC-TZ5. That's a 9 Mpixel camera, same ballpark quality and resolution, SD memory cards, etc. It's a bit larger, due to the 10x zoom lens... 3x wasn't enough for me, but it might be for you. This camera also does 720p HD video, which looks pretty good mixed in with camcorder video on a DVD, and even ok on Blu-Ray (I've only done one Blu-Ray using some of this camera's video so far). But this one is about 50% more expensive.

Casio Exilim s10 or Canon Powershot 1100?

I think i am leaning toward the exilim s10, but this is truley hard. Al answr on here(yahoo answers) say the canon is better, but all other internet reviews say the casio. So which? Does anybody have either of these? Which should I get???

btw: I want the one which has the fastest point and shoot. My old camera took a good 5 or 6 secs! it was terrible. I want a click--> on screen.

which is best?

i did the comparisons on dpreview.com but i'd like some personal suggestions based on experience.

i am partial to the quality of night time pictures and the speed of which pictures can be taken w/o being blurred (basically which is essentially a truly great 'point-and-shoot'). THANKS.
also, which one has the best image and sound quality for video taping?

i currently own a nikon coolpix s9 which has horrible noise reduction for video, and loooong delay for taking pics esp. at night, and blurriness is a big problem b/c a lot of times it can't focus right on the first try so i have to keep 1/2 pressing the capture button until it has a clear focus.

easy.... optical image stablization helps control handshake blur... and the only camera you listed with TRUE ois is the canon... and since it has superior image quality... its the clear "best" of the 3.

Edit--I am going to use for general use. Nothing professional. I'll use during day or night. On special events. I want something I can easily take photos, upload to computer, and post in flickr or wherever. The video on the Casio is fine, but the Canon have also the same thing, i.e., capacity to take video?

What about the issues with the "lens error"?

Canon outshines Casio any day. Canon knows its cameras, and the SD1100 IS delivers on its brand quality.

The SD1100 IS outshines the EX-S10 in several respects:
1) has face detection technology
2) it's very user-friendly, with several fun functions built-in for artistic effects (color isolation etc.)
3) it's ultracompact without making me worry about snapping it in two by accident
4) it has a viewfinder, which gives me a backup way to shoot pictures in case my battery's running low
5) it has image stabilization, which counteracts camera shake
6) Canon has a far better image sensor, with more accurate colors and finer details

The Canon's flash is plenty strong; in fact, whenever I use my SD500's flash, it easily outflashes everyone else's.

And yes, Canon has the ability to shoot video as well. You can shoot at up to 30 fps at resolutions up to 640 x 480 pix. It's very smooth and very usable.

Best part: SD1100 IS retails on Amazon for $169!

Why does the Casio Exilim EX-S10 get few reviews?

I am not talking about whether the reviews are neg or positive towards the camera, but rather the quantity.

For example, I am looking into buying this camera or the Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS. Just checking two sites: Amazon and Stuff Advisor.

Canon has 'bout 200+ reviews on either site.
Casio has no more than 10.

?!

Both have been out in the market the same time. So. What gives? Is this particular make not as popular?

Just curious.
I believe both cameras came out in March 2008.

Is the camera still relatively new?

Ultimately, I want to get a DSLR, but they're so dang expensive when you include the lenses... Meanwhile, I'm looking for a good (prosumer range) digital "point-and-shoot" camera until I can better afford something from the SLR world. Basically, my budget is under $500.

There are a few creative controls which I need to have a wide range of (manual) control over as well as automatic settings. In order of importance these controls are: aperture, focus, shutter speed, exposure, and manual zoom. More than anything, I really want the best possible macro capabilities available. And minimal shutter lag. It's kind of a pet peeve of mine. ;)

Could you please point me in the right direction? I'm kind of leaning toward the Nikon Coolpix S10 or something like the Canon PowerShot S2 IS (I really like the swivel screens). Compact is awesome, but full body is okay too.

I can get a cheaper DSLR to start with, but I don't want to, and I chaged my mind about full-body cameras. I also want a compact because I can just stick it in my pocket and take it with me anywhere. Some of the places I go, and some of the things I do, I want to bring a camera, but not something big or expensive because of the higher potential for damage.

I suggest the Canon A630. It has aperture- and shutter priority modes and accepts accessory lenses (sold separately).

dpreview will also have vendor suggestions with prices.

buydig.com or beachcamera.com usually have the lowest prices but I checked and it's listed at $300. I got mine for $190 from buydig.com. I wonder what happened...
