What do you like more FujiFilm FinePix or Canon Powershot S2 IS cameras?

I personally was looking at the FinePixs5200 compared to the Powershot S2 IS? Any reason why youd pick one over the other? Also in the Powershot S3 IS upgrade that much better? Please explain why you pick what you pick. Thanks

I would choose the Canon without much hesitation, for the following reasons:

- Faster lens (allows a wider aperture, thus gathering more light) at wide angle: f/2.7 instead of f/3.2.
- Optical image stabilizer (the Fujifilm S5200 doesn't have any -its AntiBlur function is NOT an actual image stabilizer-).
- Longer zoom (slightly more wide angle and tele).
- Wider range of shutter speeds.
- Uses the more convenient SD memory card format.
- Better video recording capabilities (stabilized movie recording, stereo audio, etc.).

About the only S5200's obvious advantage is its manual zooming/focusing ring elements. Its RAW format availability might be considered another advantage, but the Canon Sx IS 's RAW mode can also be enabled with the third-party CHDK firmware.



As for the S3 IS, it's not much of an improvement, but the S5 IS does have several interesting advantages: hotshoe for external flash, face detection, larger LCD screen and with more resolution, SDHC memory card support (higher card capacities than 2 Gb.), etc. Whether those are useful upgrades to you, you know better than anyone else.

Problem regarding cannon powershot s2 digital camera?

i own a cannon powershot s2. After i turn it on the lens does not go in. It just makes a sound. The lcd displays a message " E 18 " and then the camera goes off with the lens outside.

I have a pretty decent digital camera, nothing spectacular, but when i have taken the pictures on manual mode with tripod, they still turn out blurry. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks in advance. The camera has 12x optical zoom with equivalent of 36-432 mm)

Mount to tripod

Zoom all the way out

Place in "Landscape" mode. (or Infinite Focus)

Use Spot Meter mode.

Center moon.

Trip with Self-Timer


Better hurry, it is about half out of shadow now.

What is the largest memory card you ccan have for a Canon powershot S2 IS?

It depends what kind of card it is. If it's an SD card, they go up to 8gb!

I mainly want to take pictures of my kids but also want it to use for sports (myself and theirs when they get older). I am worried about the blur that occurs on sports pictures sometimes. I play tennis and get a lot of that on any camera. Does anyone have this and have good experience with sports pictures. Also, had a question about the quality and stability of the zoom. Thanks in advance.

My daughter has the Canon S2, and has very good results with it. Outdoor or flash pics with lots of light are excellent. Low light pics with no flash tend to have some noise. I get similiar results with my Sony H1. These "ultra zoom" cameras give you great flexibility without having to carry around a lot of separate lenses for a d-SLR camera.

The camera does a good job with sports pics as long as there is good lighting. The 12x zoom lets you get close to the players, and the autofocus can track moving objects.

However, there is no predefined high shutter speed Sports Scene mode. You have to learn to use the Shutter Speed Priority mode. Then you just set a shutter speed that is fast enough to capture the action (usually 1/200 second or faster), then the camera will set aperture wide enough to get a good exposure.

There have been no problems with the zoom, and the image stabilization really helps avoid camera shake when using the long telephoto.

Other similar cameras are the Canon S3, Sony H1/H2/H5, Panasonic FZ7/FZ30/FZ50.

I've been looking for a digital camera for a while, but I want to make sure I gather plenty of information since it is an expensive purchase. I've looked at several different models, but I keep coming back to the Canon Powershot line. Specifically the S3 and the S5. I know the idea is to keep improving the line, but does anyone know what the improvements are and what additional features the S5 may have? Pros and Cons between the two, experience with lag time, battery life and such?

Any help would be much appriciated.

It is not an SLR; it is a point and shoot in the class of "super zoom". These are like $150 used, much cheaper than an SLR, but, if you are taking pictures of moving things inside, it won't be too good, like basketball or volleyball game. If you are outside, like soccer or lacrosse, it does ok. If you want to take pictures of moving objects and "freeze" the action, you pretty much want to look at cameras with fast shutter speeds, like 1/1000 of a second to 1/4000. The other nice thing about SLR's for this task is the faster shutter lag - they take pictures much sooner after hitting the shutter release button than point and shoots, generally.

What manufacters are there that would make good lens for a Canon Powershot s2 is?

Underwater Camera Case for Canon Powershot S2 IS?

I am looking for an underwater case for my Powershot S2 IS digital camera, and was wondering if anyone has used generic bag type cases before and how they compare to the ones made specifically for one model of camera (as the one made for my model costs $750, which is more than I paid for the camera in the first place!)
Any tips on getting good water pictures? Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

You might check what's offered by companies such as Ikelite or Sea&Sea. They offer housings as well as complete camera kits. I'd only trust the bag type covers for rainy days.

Check your local library for books on underwater photography. If they don't have such reference books you can always try amazon.com or ebay.
