Why does my Cannon PowerShot S230 does not show any picture on the LCD monitor when I turn it on?

Ditital camera Cannon PowerShot S230 will not show anything on the LCD monitor when I turn it on. What is the problem?
I can not take pictures because when I turn on the camera I can not see anything in the LCD monitor. It seem like there is nothing going through the lense and showing up in the LCD monitor. What could be the problem that the lcd is blank?

Sorry to say, the camera is broken, bring it in for repair! I hope you have a current warranty no older then 30 days old, if it is older then 30 days. the warranty is VOIDED!

i would check the menu options, it's probably under options, or set up. or display features...good luck...check the manual if you can't find it.

My camera doesn't seem to be working right outdoor. When I took pictures of my car in a parking lot on a bright/dull day, the pictures looked so vague, I could barely see the pictures of my car. The Camera works just fine indoor. I have tried everything in the set-up menu and used different type of flashes but no luck, pictures would look just terrible. What could be wrong with my S230 or is it time to throw it away? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Without seeing your pictures, it is hard to make any suggestions. Taking outdoor pictures should be easy. Switch to fully automatic mode and press the shutter. Make sure you have ISO set to 100. If this does not help, maybe it is time to shop for a new one.

It used to work perfectly. It took great pictures. But one day every picture I took was black. Everything seems to work. The shutter opens and all the features are working too. But its like something is blocking the view from the inside or something.

The S230 was released almost 6 years ago. Time for a new one. The advantages...
better image quality, more optical zoom (the S230 only has 2x optical), updated features, faster performance, better movie mode, a larger and higher resolution LCD.

I have a Canon Powershot S230 3.2 Mega pixels. The viewer went dark for new pictures but deleted old ones.?

It let me delete the old pictures. I changed battery, pressed all the buttons, checked my book but nothing helped.

The S230 is a very old model camera (released in 2002) and it (or the LCD) may just be at the end of it's life. You may need to consider upgrading sometime in the future. Canon have some excellent SD models available...

it maybe the a picture mode or something like black & white or sepia like thing. Find those options on in your display and change it to normal.

How do you turn off the flash on a Canon Powershot digital camera?

I have the S230 (3.2 megapixels)

All of the following is assuming that the camera is in Camera mode (where you can take pictures), and NOT in Play mode (where you look t previously taken pictures).

On the back of the camera, just to the right of the screen, there is a circle containing 4 buttons (in the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions). The button on the right side of this circle (3 o'clock), which has a lightning bolt icon beside it, controls the flash mode. Each time you press this flash mode button, you cycle to the next of the 5 flash modes available on this camera (see complete list below).

You need to set your camera to the flash "Off" mode (described as #4 below).

If you do not have the LCD display set to display the settings, you will need to press the "DISP" button, which is located below the LCD screen on the back of the camera, to cycle through the display modes. There are three display modes when taking pictures: Standard (live preview with no info), Detailed (live preview with camera setting info displayed over top of the live preview), and LCD off (no live preview, black screen). You want to be in the "Detailed" display mode. You will know when to stop pressing the DISP mode when there is a live preview of what the camera is pointed at in the LCD screen, as well as icons representing various camera modes are displayed on top of the live preview picture, including the flash mode icon.

Once you are in the proper display mode, look at the LCD for the icons as described below, as you press the flash mode button and cycle through, stop when the flash "OFF" icon is displayed (icon that looks like a circle with a diagonal slash through a lightning bolt).


This camera has 5 flash modes:

1) Auto - will show in the LCD with an icon that looks like a lightning bolt with a small letter "A". In this mode the flash fires automatically as required by the light level. If the light is bright there will be no flash, if the light is dim, there will be a flash.

2) Red-Eye Reduction Auto - will show in the LCD with an icon that looks like an eye. In this mode, the red-eye reduction lamp fires with each shot, automatically adjusting the intensity to suit lighting levels and otherwise works like "Auto", see above.

3) On - will show in the LCD with an icon that looks like a lightning bolt. In this mode, a flash fires with every shot.

4) Off - will show in the LCD with an icon that looks like a circle with a diagonal slash through a lightning bolt. in this mode, the flash will not fire.

5) Slow-Synchro - will show in the LCD with an icon that looks like a person with a star above their shoulder. In this mode the flash timing is adjusted to slow shutter speeds. This reduces the chance that the background will be dark when shots are taken at night or in rooms with artificial lighting. The red-eye reduction lamp fires with each shot.

Why won't My Camera won't transfer pics to the comp?

Go and get a cheap little card reader. Just hook that up instead of the actual camera. It should work.

Whenever I try to take a picture, the view screen goes all stripey and the only colors it seems to show are purple, white, and black. When I take the picture, it basically comes out looking like a lot of stripes, nothing at all like what it's supposed to be. It looks like this also when I pull them up on the computer. I can view previously taken photos just fine, though. The camera is a Canon PowerShot S230.

have you checked your memory card? it sounds like something might be wrong the card. you should try getting a new one or have a professional check it out. make sure you aren't mixing the types of batteries (e.g. Duracell with the Energizer bunny....) i have a Canon A630, and i'm absolutely luvin' it!!! Canon is a good quality camera and should have come with a warranty worst case scenario....

Usually fixing the monitor is very expensive, you might better buy a new camera (which you shouldn't give to your baby).
You can still use the damaged camera, with the viewfinder only and without using the menu.
