Should i get a Canon PowerShot S5 IS or a Canon PowerShot SX100 IS?

I'm wondering which one has better image quality etc. Which one should i buy? It's between both of those...Are they both good decisions? Should i get a Canon PowerShot S5 IS or a Canon PowerShot SX100 IS?
Which one is well worth the money?

They're actually fairly similar, image quality wise, same sensor size etc.

Two things to consider. The S5IS has a handy dandy flip screen, you'll find it extremely helpful when shooting. It also sports a very good viewfinder, this you'll find helpful on bright days when you can't see diddly on your screen or in low light situation when you need to keep the camera steady.

What is the best Flash for a Canon PowerShot S5 IS?

I have a Canon PowerShot S5 IS and am looking for an external flash for the camera. Someone told me that the 220EX E-TTL SPEEDLITE would be a good flash, but everything for it keeps pointing to the Rebel series camera. I just don't want to buy the wrong one. Thanks.

Canon 220EX is okay, but 430EX is much better. It has a swiveling bounce head and you can bounce the flash to the ceiling and the light will not be that hash.

Is the Canon PowerShot S5 IS getting dated? When will the next generation Canon PowerShots hit the market?

I am thinking about buying a Canon PowerShot S5 IS but have a few concerns. Mainly, I am worried about buying the camera and then having the next generation PowerShots be released very soon after.

Should I go ahead with my purchase or hold out for the next generation Canon's to hit the market? Any idea when that might be?

I bought my S1 IS in December of 2004, and so far it has done very well. I think it would fully depend on what you are expecting out of your camera. I personally chose my PowerShot because of the GREAT optical zoom capability as compared to the digital zoom. The S5 IS now also has great mega-pixel capabilities added to that as well. The other nice thing about it is that it has some capabilities that you can find on your DSLR's, such as being able to change exposure times, f-stops, and metering. Even my S1 IS has those capabilities. This is useful if you want a point and shoot, but still want to be able to manipulate exposures if the situation warrants it. Why is the Canon Powershot S5 IS cheaper than the Canon Powershot S3 IS? This suprises me, does anyone know the reason why?

It isn't.
The "official price" of S3 is higher than that of S5, because digital camera prices keep going down, so at the time of release, S3 was selling for more than S5 sold at time of its release.

However actual price you can get those cameras for is higher for S5:

How to change exposure time with canon powershot s5 IS?

I want to take a star trails picture with my canon powershot s5 IS how do i change the exposure time.. Also are there any other settings like the aperture, ISO, or shutter speed that i should change.. I'm just learning how to use this camera.. so i greatly appreciate any help

See pages 64-65 in your advanced manual.

Put the camera in the Tv mode (the dial on top) and then use the arrow buttons (left < or > right) to change the time. It will go from 1/3,200 of a second to 15 seconds. 15 seconds is shown as 15". "Zero point three" seconds is shown as 0"3. Unfortunately, you will not really be able to record star trails, even at 15 seconds, which is the longest time available with your camera.

Y do U want a filter? Filter will reduce image quality. Sensor is already shielded from UV. For FL, U can custom white balance.

If U want a polarizer, get a circular polarizer, not a regular one.

Empanage doesn't know what he B talkin' bout. U need a Canon LAH-DC20 Conversion Lens Adapter (LA-DC58E) and Hood (LH-DC40) to be able to attach a filter. I checked an U can get the set at Amazon.com for 28.99.

For filter size, get a 58mm size filter.

Try NewEgg. They have it for $309.99 and free 3-day shipping. They are very reputable, though their return policy can be strict. Circuit City actually has it for the same price on sale at the moment.

How can I make time lapse videos with a Canon Powershot S5 1S?

My camera is a point and shoot and doesnt have an intervalometer. Can anyone help me out with an easy way to do time lapse photography with it? I found some software called CHDK for canon cameras but I cant figure out how to install it on my camera. I need something that I can mod my camera with so I dont have to keep it attatched to my computer.

I couldn't find any methods to take time lapse with the S5 IS, but I found a program called GBTimelapse which has many great options to use on your PC.

Can anyone recommend a camera bag to use with the Canon Powershot S5 camera?

I am looking at the LowePro Edit 110 ($21 at Best Buy) as a possibility. I like Velcro fasteners as opposed to zippers for easier access.
