What's a good price to pay for a used Canon Powershot s500 without accessories?
A friend of mine wants to sell me this camera. It's got the battery but no charger or any of the cords etc. that came with it. From what I hear it's worth anywhere from $200 to $450.00. I had a Canon before that was the best cam I ever owned. What's a good price to offer?
Your best bet is to buy a camera new, used cameras are plagued with problems. You already know that the cables are missing. Did she really take good care of it?
That's a lot of money to pay for something that may not have been cared for as well as you would.
Now for that price ($200-250), you can buy a BRAND NEW SD600 plus all accessories.
The SD500 does have a 1 megapixel advantage, which you will not notice if you had only 6MP (which the SD600 has). But the SD600 has a better LCD screen.
The SD500 is a good little camera...but you would need to buy a charger and USB cable for it, so you would need to factor in the extra cost.
Taking into account, the extra cost to you in having to buy extras..and not knowing if there is anything 'wrong' with the camera...I would not offer anywhere near $200.
I would prefer to buy new (at least you get a warranty).
good luck

I know nothing about computers, do I need any software? or cables? The camera was given to me, so I have no disks that came with it. or attachments, Someone help me! lol
If you want to load pictures to the computer, you can just plug in the little SD memory card from your camera into one of the memory reader slot that should be included with your laptop

canon powershot s500, broken?
i found an old digital camera of mine in the closet. it turns on, but it hums and says error 18 on the screen then turns off. does anyone know what it'd take to fix this or should i just buy a new one?
Read the manual that came with it if you have it and if not look for a phone number on it to contact canon because the store will probably not take it back
Which is a better quality product line: PowerShot SD or PowerShot A?
My child dropped my Canon PowerShot S500, so I'm shopping for a new one. I care more for the quality of the picture than for the aesthetics of the camera itself. I also found that Canon seems to have 2 lines: PowerShot SD-xxx, and PowerShot A-xxx. I can't for the life of me figure out which one is more value-oriented, and which one is more quality-oriented, because they appear to be in a similar price category. What are the major differences between these 2 lines?
Thanks.
I'll fall in line with Koko. The SD are stylish with not as much user control. The A are more "photographer" oriented.
I have an SD900 and it is a wonderful camera, but it is my "pocket" camera for use when I don't want to carry an SLR.
My son has an A620 and my brother has an A630 and they aer both very well satisfied with their cameras.
The thing about all three of these cameras (and the A640) that makes them excel is the fact that they have a larger sensor than most other compact digital cameras. If you buy any SD cameras other than the SD900 or any A-series other than the A600-series (now limited to the A630 and A640), you will be getting a sensor that is half the size of these cameras and it really shows in the quality.
Having said that, far and away the best value for picture quality measured vs. price is the A630. It's just $215 now and the other two I mentioned are $300 and $350.
Can you recommend me a digital camera?
Up until recently i owned a Canon Powershot S500 Digital Elph and loved it. I bought accessories such as two extra compact flash memory cards and an additional battery, so ideally i'd like a new camera which could utilise these items too. Can anyone out there in the big wide world of cyberspace recommend me anything?
The Canon PowerShot is a real fine camera. 4X optical zoom, 8 megapixels. Has manual controls in addition to auto. Very good on AA rechargeables. According to Website dpreview.com
Circuit City has it for $200-.
Does this site look safe to order this camera from?
