Test: Canon PowerShot S100 akam.no
Introduksjon

How do you clean the ccd on a Canon Powershot S80 camera?
Sept. 2007 issue of Shutterbug Magazine has a review of the Image Trend SensorKleen. You can read it at shutterbug.com
A web search should find dozens of companies offering similar products.
Ignore any suggestions involving the use of "canned air". That is a guaranteed way of driving dust deeper into parts of your camera where it can cause problems.
With DSLR's you can remove the lens and use various methods for cleaning the CCD, but for a fixed lens point-and-shoot camera such as the Canon S80, this is not possible. You would need to take it to a camera service center, or to Canon themselves, as the camera would need to be dismantled.

Successor to Canon Powershot S80 in the works?
Now that Canon has introduced some new Powershot digital cameras recently, does anyone know anything about a successor to the powershot s80, since it is no longer being manufactured?
None of available Powershots come with a wide angle lens, which is one of the s series' best features
Nobody really knows, but things don't look good for that 'S' line.
The image quality and features of their SD line matches and exceeds nearly everything in the old S line. I figure that it will fall by the wayside, like the 'prosumer' G series cameras went. (remember the G2 and G3?)
I would like to know if my Canon powershot s80 will except a 4gb sdhc card?
the info for the camera does'nt mention sdhc
I checked the specs from Canon: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=ModelTechSpecsTabAct&fcategoryid=144&modelid=12074
Under Image Storage:
Storage Media SD Memory Card, MultiMediaCard
This means that your camera does not support SDHC cards.
Q about canon powershot s80?
Dear friends,
I'm going to update my camera, and still stick to canon powershot. I'm not a professional photographor, and prefer small pocket cameras while I like the pofessional functions at the same time. So what do you think about this canon powershot s80? I guess I'm going to purchase it, but before I'd like to know come feedbacks & comments. What do u guys think about it? According to my situation, do u think it will work for me?
Thanks a million in advance. =P
Cheers^^
The nice thing about the S80 is its 28mm wide angle. However- I've found the edges to have noticeable, even annoying softness/blur at wide angle- so it's not clear corner to corner. It's also slow to startup and autofocus, has purple fringing. It's not even that small.
The S80 is now no longer a 'new' model. It's a whole year old- nearing the end of it's life. (the digicam world moves very fast).
Sure- it has manual modes- but manual modes don't do as much on these tiny cameras as they did on your old SLR. Depth of fields are so great at all apertures, and image quality doesn't degrade much between aperture sizes- it almost doesn't pay to even use the modes.
I realize that this isn't the answer you wanted to hear.
Personally- if you want a high quality compact camera- look at the new Canon SD700IS. It's down to ~$400 now. Or- if you want high ISO/low light capability- choose the Fuji F30. Or- if you want a 28mm wide angle, with OIS built-in, look at the Panasonic FX01.
You have the possibility to display a grid on the LCD this is really suefull IMPO, it's really easy to put it on any purse/bag, the movie mode is excellent aswell, buying a gorrilapod is a great acessory forthis cam, you might regret the fact that you don't know about the battery level until you're out of battery, other bad points I cannot get any good macro with this cam. and it tends to create blownout highlights.
What I love about the cam is the ability to add an underwater case, but if you're not looking for this option or not really need 8Mpix, I'd recommend you the S3IS instead.
Canon Powershot S80?
How do I set-up the date on the Canon Powershot S80 camera (so that the date can show on the photo)??
you can only set the date when the resolution is set to 1600x1200
Does Canon PowerShot S80 support 4 GB SD MMC?
Hello, does it?
usually 4 GB cards are SDHC. Is it?
if the card you are planning on buying says SDHC, then your camera does NOT support SDHC. It specifically has to support it.
SDHC come in 4 GB and larger and cameras which do not support SDHC will not be able to use them. sorry

which one is the best?
The question "model X vs. model Y?" pops up several times a day here.
For in depth and honest reviews of digital cameras (including value for money), there are two great sites. See if they have a full review of the models you're considering:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/default.asp?view=alpha
http://www.steves-digicams.com/hardware_reviews.html
At dpreview you can aso compare the technical specifications of those cameras side by side:

Best wishes!
If anyone owns a Canon Powershot s80, do tell me what you think of it.?
I intend to buy one of these babies, and i've got glowing reviews so far on it. Still, I'd like some more feedback on it. I don't need tech specs, i'm well aware of that. give me the lowdown on it...the brickbats, the bouquets, what you love, what you hate, what you miss compared to some other cameras...in short anythign that comes to your mind. Thanks for your time!
I don't own a S80 but I did get to use a friend's for a few hours a couple of months ago. I'm one of the geeks you see walking around with a dSLR and a bag full of lenses but I had an occasion where I just needed an easy and small point and shoot.
If you haven't had a chance to hold an S80 in your hands you're in for a treat. Canon did a GREAT job building that thing.
With a point and shoot there's not a lot that can be said, it either takes better pictures than others or it doesn't. Luckily the S80 does take great pictures. I usually use RAW on my camera and thought the lack of RAW on the S80 would bother me that day but, in typical Canon fashion, the quality of the JPEG's is so good it doesn't really matter. I did find the lens to be too slow for my taste at the zoom end of the range but that doesn't matter unless you're trying to take pictures that most people don't.
All in all I think anyone would be happy to have an S80. I've even thought of getting one for the times when I need something smaller and easier than my regular camera.
