My First Real Video
Experimenting with my Canon Powershot SD100. Plugged my radio shows Sports Docket and System Showdown. ... Sports Docket Canon Camera Technology ...

I have a PowerShot SD100 and whenver I try to record a video it stops after about 2~3 minutes. Why?
The camera has enough memory for about 5 minutes worth of video.
The camera is placed on a table during recording and is not touched.
if you have other videos recorded, you will have to free up some memory space by removing stuff from your camera. Your memory card may be full? There are several little things that could be the problem. you may want to invest in a larger memory card.
My Canon PowerShot SD100 Digital Elph has a jammed lens. How do I fix it?
The lens, you can tell is trying to come out but it's jammed and wont come out, I really want to fix it myself because I dont have enough money to get it fixed. What should I do? Also, the screen in the back, when you point the camera at something, the image will show up, but it's waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy blurry. What do I do for this problem?
It sounds like you have the e18 error. I guess the SD100 is too old to get fixed under warranty. Unfortunate.
An e18 error is one where the lens mechanism cannot extend or retract. It's a common problem. Fixing it is complicated, and depending on what exactly is seizing the mechanism, may actually require replacement parts, and not just a cleaning.
If you were in warranty, it's best left to to a trained technician. Since I'm assuming you are out of warranty, there will be a cost to using a canon certified technician. Keep in mind, if you end up trying to get someone else to fix it out of warranty, it's likely to cost you around US$100~150. That can almost buy you another camera.
If you are mechanically inclined, there is a fix procedure photodocumented, (see link below) however there is no guarantee that once you open everything up that you won't find the root cause to be a permanently ruined gear mechanism.
Just so you know...I had an e18 error on an A-series camera that disappeared by itself...whatever was jamming it cleared itself, and now there are no problems. Go figure.
They have some other simple recommendations like blowing air into the mechansm, etc. on the reference website noted below. G'luck.
type in the search engine e18 problems and see what happens If you decide to buy another camera type in the search engine (problems with and the what ever camera you are looking for I went with the Nikon l3
If you want to fix it yourself, don't disassemble, but try to "force" it out with your fingers. This "may" help, or may not.
The blurry image is due to the lens is not focusing correctly.
Good luck with it!!
Is the rechargable battery for the Powershot SD100 compatible with charger included with the Powershot SD450?
I want to get a camera for someone, one that is inexpensive yet quality. I found an older model canon powershot sd100. I have a canon powershot sd450, and i love those cameras. I was wondering is the battery that is included wit the sd100, compatible with the charger included with the sd450?
I think it is but maybe look on the Canon website to check for sure;
Whats wrong with my Canon Powershot SD100??!??! PLEASE HELP?
I have a Canon Powershot SD100. I lost the charger, but bought a new one. After i charged the battery and put it in, the LCD was black, and every time I took a picture, it came out black. Whats wrong with it? Can i have it sent back to canon to get fixed. PLEASE ANSWER, THANK YOU!
Okay, I just have to say that yes, it is an older camera, BUT, depending on the type of problem you are having, you may be able to get it fixed for free. You said the LCD is black. Is it black but still shows the menu and other options on the screen when you take a pic? I'm guessing you can still zoom the lens in and out, even if you can't see anything. Also, does the flash work? If everything that I just said is happening, it's possible that you have a CCD problem. There were a couple of Canon models that have had problems with the sensors going out on their own, most likely through no fault of your own. The information is listed on this website here:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&fcategoryid=225&modelid=13390&keycode=2112&id=29819
Basically, if it is something under their service advisory, you can get it repaired at no extra charge. You will, however, have to send it directly to Canon. If it is not something covered by the service advisory, they'll estimate the cost of repair for you for free. Then you can decide what to do after that. I would definitely recommend that you either e-mail or call them at the number on the website above. I hope this helps!
It would be cheaper to buy a new camera because there is no sense in spending big dollars on trying to get an old and outdated camera fixed...sorry.
they charge $150
just to look at the camera
cannon powershot: SD100.?
The circular divice that changes the setting (picture, video, playback) is like stuck and hard to move. it may have been exposed to a tiny bit of water.. not much. the camera itself funtions fine. is there anyway to get the changer to start moving normally again? thanks.
It sounds to me like you've got a mechanical problem.
A little bit of water will not make the program selector stick. What you need to realize is that this little dial is actually a rotary switch with a moving contact that slips over a lot of other ones as you turn the dial. If something breaks in that assembly or gets loose, the dial can stick.
You can try to force it if you like but that will most likely do more damage than good.
I'd recommend that you have a reputable camera repair centre repair it assuming the camera is worth repairing. It many not be. I have a hunch what they'll have to do is replace the dial assembly to make things work again.
If it's not worth repairing you can still use it as is, except you can't change programs of course, and if that's no good you could also try to fix it yourself. There's probably a broken contact in the dial or a little ball bearing that slipped out of its place. Just be aware that if you try to fix it yourself you'll need some really find tools and you have to be very careful, the parts are extremely delicate and easily broken.
I hope that helps a little.
try moving it and moving it to free itself
My camera can only take movie clips 3 minutes long?
When I record a video on my camera, it records for 3 minutes and then saves. I want to take videos that last longer than that.
I know I have enough memory, because I can take a bunch of 3 minute clips so I'd figure I'd be able to take a few 10 minute clips instead.
My camera is a Canon Powershot SD100.
Your camera only records 3 minute clips because it's LIMITED to 3 minute clips at a time (when recording in the lowest quality).
Recording in the best quality is limited to 30 seconds per clip.
If you want to record for longer, you will need to upgrade to a newer model camera. The SD100 was released over 4 years ago, so it's quite outdated.
Most newer models allow 'movie' file sizes of up to 4GB at a time. High quality movies (640x480 at 30fps) consume 1GB in only 8 minutes, so you will need a high speed, high capacity SD card.
Image quality, camera speed and features would also be much improved with a newer model camera.
Professional Camera for aspiring photojournalist?
I was wondering what would be a good professional camera for an aspiring photojournalist. My talents are black and white, nature and children. I have a couple ones for fun (canon powershot sd100, exlim etc.) but I would like one to start perfecting my pictures.
Oh also, I was looking at the Canon Rebel xTi...is that any good?
Thanks your your time
Thanks for your time *
The camera you want largely depends on the variety of images you want to shoot as well as your budget.
If you are just starting out, you do need to make a brand decision and basically live with it. You live with it unless you have way too much money to not only upgrade the body but replace lenses as well.
I believe the Canon or Nikon are the two legitimate choices since they have proven to be quality and have lenses for every budget and need.
I personally chose Nikon. Their glass/lenses is known to be better while Canon's chips/processors are supposed to be better. My reasoning is that I plan on keeping my lenses and eventually upgrade the body to newer, better processors down the road, so I want to invest in glass.
Nikond D40 or D40x is a very good product. It is not very heavy, has good controls and many many options. Ironically the same camera 5 years ago would have been almost top of the line and would have cost $3000 +. What I especially love about the D40 is that the lenses that come with it are the best quality glass. Canon tends to give you slightly lower quality glass with its cheapest cameras.
I would get both the 18-55 and the 55-200 basic lenses, unless you can afford the 18-200 single lens. Having this range will give you many option. Again, if you have the money, there is an almost unlimited set of lenses out there.
Transferring Images from Digital Camera without installing software.?
I am running windows 2000. I have a canon Powershot SD100 and would like to transfer the images directly to my hard drive without installing the software. Is there any way that I can do this? I am connecting through USB and it would be nice if the camera would show up on My Computer like another drive. Is this possible?
If you get a card reader, no additional software is necessary. This is not only faster, but it saves your camera batteries.
First of all, be sure there are some pictures on the card. Plug the card reader into an open USB port. Plug the card into the appropriate slot on your card reader.
I use Photoshop Elements and as soon as I plug my card into the reader, it starts its own card reader and displays a thumbnail of every picture on the card.
If this does not happen automatically, open your photo editting software. Do whatever you usually do to open a file, but click on the selector where you can change drives. Your card reader will be assigned a new drive name that will be one letter higher than you ever saw before, such as "Drive G:" or such. Then, just double click on the name of the file you want to open and it will appear in your photo editor.

Taking a photo of a drawing.?
Im trying to take a photo of a picture I drew on a piece of paper. The picture is all black and white done with pencil. My camera is 3.2mp Canon Powershot SD100. Im having trouble taking a photo the way i want it to come out. Any suggestions?
Your camera unfortunately may not be up to the task for this. It doesn't have a true macro (close up) lens. Nevertheless, the problem you may be having is getting the exposure correctly. A white sheet of paper (with black drawing on it)--may fool the camera and it most likely will underexpose it. Camera's light meter assumes that you have an average subject--as in not pitch black and not pure white. So if you need to try it again, you should put it in MANUAL mode, and take a few photos of your drawing at different exposure settings.
I would not illuminate the drawing under direct sunlight--but rather, in shade, or wait until you have a cloudy day.

These are the photos taken at the Getty Center (the green one-they paid $50,000,000 for it!) I used Canon 5D with Canon 100 mm macro f 2.8 lens. Tripods are not allowed--so these were all hand-held.
I was thinking that if you have a flat bed scanner, it would be easier to "take a photo" of your drawing with one.
