PowerShot SD1000?
I bought an Olympus FE-290 for it's big screen, and it was just the worst piece of garbage I have ever bought, so I returned it and now I want to buy something decent, my choices are narrowed down to a Canon PowerShot SD1000, and the Nikon Coolpix L15, what do you know about either? I have read reviews on both and I am kind of leaning toward the PowerShot, what do you think?
And the A570 IS?
SD1000 does not have image stabilization. L15 has vibration reduction but it has fair reviews only. I would go for one with image stabilization such as Canon SD850 IS. If you want a lower price model, you can also consider Canon A570 IS or A720 IS.
The best camera for the money is the Canon sd1000
A friend of mine just bought one and loves it.
You're also in luck because it's on sale right now for $165.00 delivered to your door.

If you need the camera case for it, you can get it here for $16.00
Once you click on the link below for the camera bag, instead of buying from Amazon, look to the right of the screen and buy it from Cameta Camera for $16.00 which includes tax and shipping. It's cheaper that way.

Hope this helps.... :)
But, I would also recommend a camera with IS (image stabilization), if you can afford the extra cost.
Either SD850 IS or SD950 IS are worth a look at if you want the IS.
But, the SD1000 should be perfectly ok in many situations (especially in good outdoor lighting conditions).
If you prefer full manual controls included (aperture & shutter priority modes) then you should look at one of Canon's A series cameras with IS, instead (A720 IS, A650 IS).
P.S. I would hate to get suckered into buying a camera from Ritz, because it seems that some of their employees have absolutely no idea of what features a particular camera has (namely, the SD750).
How do I connnect a Canon Powershot SD1000 Camera to my Windows 2000 laptop?
I need to download pictures from my canon powershot sd1000 camera to my laptop which runs windows 2000. I searched canons website...but they don't have any drivers. The camera stores the pictures on a SD card.
Any ideas ?
Canon usually supplies a USB cable with their cameras. It's usually a special cable with a standard USB connector on one end (for your PC) and a special tiny connector on the other end that plugs into your camera. I lost mine and was able to buy one on line for about $10.
You need to put the camera into the "view" mode instead of the "shoot" mode, turn the power on, connect the cable, and launch the correct software on the PC.
newer PCs will automatically start the correct software for most cameras. If that doesn't happen, you will have to download the correct software from Canon's web site.
An alternative course is to buy a card reader and use that to read the memory card from the camera. Again, you may need to install software.
try to connect ur camera with laptop using usb cable.. for doing so u may need to install the canon powershot CD given along with the camera...
If u want to retreive pictures from your SD memory card.. buy a card reader..it will help you to connect to ur laptop
How much video can my Canon PowerShot SD1000 take at a concert?
I'm going to a Beyonce concert in September and I want to be able to record a bunch of the show. I have a Canon PowerShot SD1000 and (I believe) one 2 GB SD memory card, and two 1 GB SD memory cards.
Does anyone have an estimate as to how many minutes of video I'll be able to take?
There are many possible ways to set your camera up for video recording. See page 39 in your advanced manual for information on this and see page 140 for very detailed charts about the video recording capacity for various size memory cards. Note that you will have to multiply the 512 KB column by four to calculate for your 2 GB card and by two for your 1 GB cards.
How to snap sports with Canon Powershot SD1000?
How can you get good non-blurry shots with Canon Powershot SD1000 besides taking pics over and over like crazy till the button breaks? Is there no sport vibration option on it?
It seems that you have two different issues.
First "snapping" sports with a P&S camera is very difficult because of the shutter lag inherint in all P&S cameras.
http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/shutter-lag.htm
Next you seem to be having a problem with camera movement caused by slow shutter speeds. Since your camera as no aperture or shutter priority modes and has no IS feature, you really don't have much control over the camera, so you may become more frustrated until you can buy a camera with those attributes.
Really the only cameras you can depend upon to shoot sports is a DSLR
what do you think of the Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Camera?
I'm interested in getting a new digital camera...my current one is too bulky...I'm looking for something a little smaller but with good quality pictures. what do you think of the Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Camera?
good choice
go for it
If you like to shoot at arms length and use the LCD to compose your shots then you will need a camera that has the IS feature.
Auto-focus, IS and flash can induce shutter lag so if you are planning on shooting any action shots, you may want to save your pennies and buy a DSLR.
I have a Sony DSC-W80. I got it at Circuit City, and I love that store because the sales associates really know what they're doing. They steered my towards this camera and I'm very happy with the purchase, it was $230, which is a lot to a 14-year-old on a babysitting salary, but I have yet to regret it.
The video mode is better than a camcorder, no lie. The sound is flawless and you can even adjust sound on the camera. The picture...never blurry or anything. The videos play on my 34" LCD with no fault! I'm totally taking advantage of this feature!
The pictures are almost too amazing for me. The camera is a 7.2 megapixel, but I set my picture quality to 5 megapixel because it takes up less space and the pictures turn out beautiful. The image stabilization works really well. I tested it by waving my camera back and forth in the air and randomly took shots without stopping my camera. The weren't the least bit blurry!
There are a few modes in this camera:
Auto Adjustment (For shooting with preset settings)
High Sensitivity (For Low Lighting)
Soft Snap (Adds soft background, good for taking pics of people.)
Twilight Portrait
Twilight
Landscape
Beach
Snow
Video
Prgram Auto (Allows more programming before taking the shot.)
Also, you can remove red-eye, crop the photo, and do a bunch of other editing right on the camera!
The lens is without flaw. I don't even need flash on my shots because the lens can take in enough light.
You can play slideshows on your camera WITH MUSIC!
There's so many things I like about this camera, I can't list them all. I love it so much. If you get this camera, you will not have regrets. It's only $230 max and worth the price. I have the pink one, but it comes in pink, silver, white, and black.
Also, it looks bulky in pictures but it is really small. A little thicker than a casio but less length and width.
Also, don't buy a camera that doesn't have a viewfinder. I was outside in the sun today and I couldn't see my screen! I love that this camera has a viewfinder!
The Only Cons:
*The battery takes 4.5 hours to charge (but it lasts a long time on full charge)
*Sony uses memory stick PRO DUO instead of SD cards, but Circuit City has a deal that when you buy this camera, you get a free 1GB card (which is all you need.)
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/sony-cybe...
I would reccomend this to anyone...it is really user friendly. Each setting you put it on show a description of what it is. Someone who has never used a digital camera could figure this out with ease!
The supplied rechargeable Lithium battery should provide up the 210 shots when fully charged.
Just don't expect the miracle of low noise or noise free images in low light (no flash and using a high ISO)...
Is a Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital ELPH 7.1 Megapixel the best for the buck ?
Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital ELPH 7.1 Megapixel is what I am getting for about 132.00 is that a good camera at a good deal?
The thing about camera's is, you need to look closer at the OPTICAL zoom. That is the thing that makes a camera better or worse. When you print pictures, they can only fit about 2 mega pixels onto a 3x5. So anything more is a waste unless you print larger photos. Digital zoom is o.k., but it's the optical zoom that makes the difference. I would not go less than 3. 10 is great!
What digital camera is an upgrade from Canon PowerShot SD1000?
I want to upgrade my Canon Power Shot SD1000 to another camera that takes better portrait shots in the price range from $250-$400?
What options do I have?
canon rebel / 450 D. maybe on craigslist.
What camera case do you like for your Canon PowerShot SD1000 Elph?
I'm really looking for a case that protects my Canon SD1000 properly, but is also very form fitting so it doesn't take up much space in my pocket.
Depending on how much protection you want, you'll have to sacrifice some space. I got a Lowepro case for my PowerShot A560. Their gear cases and packs are outdoor oriented but very practical. Zippered ,velcro'd, strap, beltloop, water resistant, and good-looking. Mine has a small
pouch for spare batteries and a smaller one for card cases.
If you are referring to pants pocket, this wouldn't be the one.
How do I fix my Canon PowerShot SD1000 camera to work?
Well, my mom has been complaining that our camera doesn't work. The camera itself is fine, but every time we use it to take a picuture the picture seems to come out blury and dicolored. I don't know what to do. My aunt is even visiting and now we can't take pictures. Help!!
Sounds like a pixel problem, don't worry if it's not your fault, and you haven't had it for a year yet, you can send it in for warranty
it's not going to cost you anything ( other than shipping )
http://www.usa.canon.com/opd/controller?act=OPDSupportDropDownAct
follow that, that's canon's support page, it'll ask you to print a form, once you've printed it, fill it out, and ship your camera to the address it requests.
Is it possible to turn the Canon Powershot SD1000 into a webcam?
I was just wondering. Because my last camera had a webcam mode, but I don't know if this Canon does or does not. If it does can someone tell me how to utilize it?
Absolutely no chance
