Is Canon Powershot SD1100 IS good for photography?

I want to get into photography, but I can't buy a really expensive SL camera, nor do I want one that big.
So is the Canon Powershot SD1100 IS going to take cool pictures? If you know what I mean. Like not just random whatever pictures, but cool artsy ones?

Thanks.

Yeah i have it, its an amazing camera, they're are technical problems every once in a while, but that's every camera. I too, am a photographer, and I use this when i wanna do light photography, and when i wanna do serious kind, i use my nikon. But this camera is really easy to use, It takes amazing pictures, and its not to expensive, sounds good to me.

It will do, but if you take intro to photog, some of the lessons consist of manually adjusting some settings that MOST point-and-shoot camera's cannot perform.

Any camera is good for photography. What else would you do with a camera? The SD1100 IS is a very capable point & shoot camera. Whether your images are 'cool and artsy' is all up to you, really...

whats better a kodak pink easyshare or a canon powershot sd1100 IS?

I just got a canon powershot SD1100 IS for Christmas and my friend got the kodak easyshare.I want to know which is better by how much and why?

Canon, definitely. I am a student at the New York Institute of Photography. Currently the two best makes on the market are Nikon and Canon. I prefer canon for the mega-pixels, speed, and overall quality of images. Your camera has 8.0 megapixels, which is great! All in all, Canon is a much better company for quality digital photography.

Try www.reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras cnet is one of the best "review board" type websites I have ever come across.

canon is 1000 times better
faster and better picture quality

Always choose Canon!

How many pics will a 2gb memory card hold for a CANON POWERSHOT sd1100?

I just got this camera and want to know how many pics the powershot sd1100 for canon will hold on a 2gb memory card (8.0 mp) 3x zoom

My chart shows 512 shots. So figure about 500 shots at 8 megapixels and a 2 GB memory card.
If you can find the answer in your owner's manual, go by that.

On the highest/best quality you should get around 800 photos.
Thats what I get on my 8mp Canon PowerShot.

me to it should hold over 600

is a Kodak EasyShare C913 Pink better then a Canon Powershot sd1100 IS?

I just got a canon powershot sd1100 IS and my friend just got a Kodak EasyShare C913 Pink and i want to know whos is better, and how mcuh better. Thanks.

Unless you got the Melody Pink version of the Powershot then the C913 Pink seriously wins on pinkness.

The C913 does a lot less damage to your pay packet too. In pretty much every other way the Canon wins. As with cars though, it's how the thing is driven that counts more than anything.

Does the Canon Powershot SD1100 IS take pictures fast?

My current camera (a Vivitar) takes pictures very, very slowly, so before saving up for the Canon Powershot SD1100 IS, I want to make sure it will be better then my Vivitar.

Thank-you!

And thanks to all the people who've already helped me with info on the Canon camera.

"Camera performance is very good. The SD1100 is ready to take its first picture just 0.7 seconds after you press the power button. The camera focuses quickly, even in low light situations. Shutter lag wasn't a problem, and shot-to-shot delays are minimal. The exception to this last item is when you're using the flash, which increases the shot-to-shot wait to about three seconds. The SD1100's continuous shooting mode won't win any awards for speed, but it can keep shooting at 1.3 frames/second until your memory card fills up. Battery life was about average for an ultra-compact camera."

extremely fast im getting it for christmas

that review quote by charles is just about right... most canon compacts perform well...UNTIL you have to use the flash. then it really slows. but not real bad...and im sure not as bad as your current camera. This is not to this specific camera...canon has pretty much always had slow performance when the flash is involved. is it a slight irratation? yes... would i or anyone change image quality for faster times? no way! this camera excells when it comes to taking pictures...especially daytime outside or well-lit shots.

good luck!

Yes, Canon's ultra compact SD models are quite speedy. They also take good quality images and are generally fun to use. I'm sure you will love it. You will need you buy a decent speed memory card, though (Class 4-6 minimum). I recommend the Sandisk Ultra II or Extreme III in SD or SDHC...2-4GB minimum.

Vivitar is not a great brand...

p.s. make sure you attach the wrist strap as soon as you get it. These little cameras can get a little slippery at times and it's your insurance against dropping it.
A small case is also a good idea. It helps protect the camera from being damaged and prevents the LCD screen from getting scratched when not in use. To clean the LCD screen, just use a fine microfibre cloth (one that's designed for spectacles or glass).

What do you think of a canon powershot SD1100?

I am looking for a good digital camera that takes good quality, clear, crisp pictures. A camera with good features, ease of use, and takes good pics inside, outside, day, night, with and without flash. I am considering a Canon Powershot SD1100. Is this a good choice?
I need to know by monday, so please answer!!

The Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS is a very fine Camera. 3X optical zoom, 8 megapixels, has manual controls in addition to auto, and has an image stabilizer. Wise choice, very good camera.
When someone writes that Canon makes a digital SLR that takes blurry pictures, I can assure you they haven't read owner's manual or don't understand it. Canon makes fine cameras.

Is Canon Powershot SD1100 IS good camera?

I am planning to buy a camera. I have hear ed a lot about Canon Powershot SD1100 IS. Is this camera worth to buy. I had read some reviews that it has low light and night shots are not that good ? Please advice me? Also let me know if there is any better camera. My budget is around $200.

The PowerShot SD1100 IS does a great job as your take-everywhere camera. Choice of camera body color, 8mp resolution, heaps of preset scene settings and really easy to use but its not a Powershot G10 or anything so it will struggle in tough conditions in full auto mode. The preset scene settings can often help overcome this. Its a good idea to try out these presets before a crucial moment to get a feel for what works best in what conditions.

As an alternative and still for under $200 you could look at the SD770IS, it is up at 10mp resolution, very similar to the SD1100IS in most ways but with higher image quality.

Both are great cameras though...

Hope this helps...

What are the differences between the CANON POWERSHOT SD1100 and the SD1000?

I was just wondering what are the differences between the SD1100 and the SD1000 and why the SD1100 is a better camera. Thanks!

The main difference is that the current SD1100 comes with image stabilization. The SD1000 does not.

Good luck!

What are the best settings to put my Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS to?

When I first got the camera, it worked like a charm. Someone could be running full speed by me, and if I snapped a pic it'd come out clear and crisp. Since then people have been tweaking the settings (against my will) and now it takes crappy pictures! Can someone tell me what I should change the settings to? I really want my old, nice working camera back lol.

Well what might help is keep your megapixels setting at 8; and on a bright sunny day set your ISO the lowest it goes. In your case 80. Only increase the ISO as lighting dictates. Shots on cloudy days or indoors not using flash, increase your ISO. I would not go above 400.

How do i change the resolution on my canon powershot SD1100 IS camera?

I don't have my camera's manual and I just want to lower the resolution. But all I can find on the shooting menu is to change from superfine, fine, to normal...

Thanks!
