Where should I send in my Canon Powershot SD300 to repair a lens problem?

I dropped my Canon Powershot SD300 and the lens got bent and will not go back into the camera. I am not sure where to send in the camera, or who to contact about this problem. Internally the camera is fine, just the crooked lens piece. I'm not sure if I can drop it off at a local camera shop, or have to send it in to Canon, or have any other options other than that. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Dude if I were you I would replace it before paying for any repair, you will come out ahead. Especially if you buy last years model it will be a much better investment.

Take it to a camera shop which sells Canon.

They'll know what to do.

The SD300 is a 3 year old model camera. If the lens is permanently damaged, then it would be pointless to try to get it fixed.
It would actually be cheaper to buy a new camera.
The advantage of a new model is better image quality & features and faster camera performance etc.

good luck...

Any repairs will be at your expense since you abused the camera by dropping it. The cost will likely exceed the price of a new camera.

Use the Powershot SD300 as a paperweight and begin shopping for your new camera. You should find plenty of good deals now. Use a wrist strap or neck strap with your new camera to prevent dropping it. (I wish I had $1 for every question in here that begins "... I dropped my camera...")

The best place to actually repair it would be to have Canon work on it (check their website for support). Telling you now though it will cost more than the camera is worth. If you wish to try some simple fixes that sometimes actually work, try:

and this forum has further discussion on the issue:

and if you're very brave, or know someone who's handy with a screwdriver:

I have a Powershot SD300 digital elph (4 mega pixels)?

I want to know if I can somehow speed up the rapid photo shooting. Right now, when I need the flash on, I can only take a photo then wait 2-3 seconds before I can take another while the flash gears up. I miss a lot of shots this way. Is there a way i can set it so that i can take rapid photos? It isn't the ISO setting because I tried that...Thanks!

A flash takes time to recycle - nothing you can do apart from shooting without flash or getting a camera with an off-camera flash (they recycle faster).

I have a Canon PowerShot SD300 digital camera...?

And I'm wondering if it's possible to extend the amount of time to film in "Fast Frame Rate" mode which films at 60FPS for longer than 30 seconds.

Have you tried using a larger memory card? That shouldn't be the problem, but if you are using a very small card, it might be.

Also, have you tried holding down on the shutter? It should not be turning off after 30 seconds.

Good luck and have fun.

Can I take decent pictures with my Canon Digital Ixus 40 a.k.a. PowerShot SD300 as known in the US?

I've been using it for about 4 years and it's a nice camera, very compact, but somehow it just doesn't give me the contrast/lighting/colouring that I see in cameras like DSLRs and all that. I was wondering if my point-and-shoot camera has exactly the same functions and effects (e.g. black-and-white, green-tinged, etc.) as a DSLR, or if it is more restricted? My camera doesn't seem to be able to take photos that are of as high quality as a DSLR. I really want to know how to take photos that are of DSLR standard and quality.

Note: this has nothing absolutely to do with my phototaking skills or composition or natural lighting- I'm just wondering about the camera's functions and effects.
What is the average cost of a decent DSLR?

I don't think the other answers are getting to your question.

You will find a DSLR has much LESS of the "functions" that the point and shoot cameras do. The point and shoots are aimed more at casual shooters who know nothing about photography and so need the camera to try to do all things for them. Also point and shoots are what kids use, so there are all kinds of goofy things they are designed to do.

A DSLR is aimed at more serious photographers. Many will have the silly "scene" modes which I also consider stupid, but in general, they are geared for someone who, hopefully, understands some photography basics.

You will always find those who just put a DSLR in the green AUTO (dummy) mode and use it as an expensive point and shoot, and usually get results worse than what they were getting with their P & S.

Then to add... yes, agreed with the others, you will never get DSLR results with a P & S.... BUT.... you have to learn to use the DSLR properly.

If you are not journalist or artist it will be decent enough. It is a bit above average cameras an on down of professional ones. Good for Sunday photographer.

ok, u have to know that sd300 and DSLR's cameras are different in anyway.. idk if sd300 got that effects that u mentioned.. so, if u want to take brilliant photos just like the DSLR's, go buy the DSLR's camera.. i suggest u to check out Nikon D3, D80 or D40X.. these cameras got great functions and effects and u wont regret it..

if you are happy with the resalution i can't see why not I would look for a second hand DSLR rather than a new compact camera
There is lots about if that is what you want
minolta D7
Cannon D10

The only way to take pictures with the quality of a DSLR is to use a DSLR. The quality of the lenses and the size of the sensor are the main factors affecting the better image quality associated with a DSLR.

Fortunately, there are currently several affordable DSLR cameras available. Sony, Pentax, Nikon, Olympus, Canon, Sigma all have excellent entry-level models. I lean towards the Sony and Pentax models since they have theitr versions of Image Stabilization in the camera body.

i am trying to save pictures to my camera but it wont let me?

i have a canon powershot sd300 and when i try to drag a picture into the camera it wont let me save it.. its got a crossed out sign.. how do i save stuff to my camera? i can take pictures off but i cant put them back on

it is not made to upload

You can only "save" pictures on a digital camera when you take pictures, you can't just drag and drop. And yes you're correct, you can take from the camera, but not put back on.

It's just the way it works.

You can put pretty much anything you want in the memory card; that the camera will recognize it and play it, it's a whole different story. You'll probably be able to put pictures and videos that you took with that camera and downloaded to the computer, back to the card (and hence to the camera), and see them, as long as you didn't modify them in any way. If the pictures and videos are edited or changed somehow, most cameras will refuse to display them.

Choosing a new digital camera?

I'm looking to replace my Canon Powershot SD300 but don't know the right features to look for in a camera. Its only 4 MP, doesn't have alot of scene modes, or large zoom capabilities. Also looking for a camera with good video recording/playback. After those features I hear alot about image stabilization, iso, shutter lag, and also digital/optical zoom which I do not understand. My camera only normally had a 3x digital zoom but I found a way to enhance it to 12x however my photos came out blurrier after the increase in zoom. I want to understand the key features to research in a camera before purchasing a replacement.

I would stay with the Powershot series mainly from Canon's reputation however I was considering a Sony Cybershot, but would also be open to other brands. I have a 2GB SD card so I'm not concerned about the sizes of photos from the resolutions taken in 7 or higher MP mode.

my suggestion
go to yahoo shopping
digital cameras
digital camera GUIDE
be sure to check titles on the left side
the guide should answer your questions

Everytime i turn on my camera tit says E-18 on the bottem?

Everytime i try to take a picture its blurry
and i dont know what happened?
My camera is a SD300 Powershot.
Then it says E-18! What can i do to fix this?

Many Canon owners have experienced the infamous E-18 error, here's what it means:
http://www.e18error.com/

and how to repair it:

Why can't I zoom in when I'm recording something using my camera?

I have a Canon PowerShot SD300
4.0 Mega Pixels
Canon Zoom Lens 3x

Most digital cameras do not allow you to zoom optically while recording a video. But, they usually allow digital zooming, which I wouldn't recommend, because it degrades the quality. However, many (or all) super-zoom cameras do actually allow you to zoom optically, and also a few newer compact cameras do too.
The main reason they do not allow zooming, is because the mic picks up all the sound the lens makes while it's zooming back and forth.

Some of Canon's super-zoom cameras that allow (optical) zooming while recording a movie are...
SX 10 IS (also records in stereo audio)
S5 IS
S3 IS

camera chargers? help!?

hi, i have a canon powershot SD300 and i was wondering if you could use any charger with it. i mean, can you use a Kodak brand charger instead of a canon charger? will it hurt my camera?
please help!

Your camera (the SD300) needs to use the charger that came with it Your camera was equipped with a Lithium-Ion NB-4L battery & charger

Generally if the batteries are AA NiMH, then yes, no problem
If they are Li-ion, then no ... each is battery is different, so the battery will need a unique charger.

Dpi on my digital camera?

Hi, I'm having some trouble with the dpi on my camera and was hoping to get some things cleared up. I have this school project that says we have to collect images and they should be "photographed at a minimum of 300 dpi...". The problem is I can't find it (dpi setting) on my camera (canon powershot SD300 Digital elph 4.0mega pixels) or on my friends digital camera. When I put the pictures onto my computer properties said that they were 72 Dpi.
What should I do? is it okay if I increase the dpi on photoshop to 300? I'm sorry for this, I've tried to find my solution but it just got more confusing to me X-( Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much! I could just hug you right now X-D

With instructions like that, no wonder you're confused. DPI is one of the most misunderstood concepts. Your camera doesn't care about DPI and you probably can't set it in your camera. The only place DPI matters is when you are printing.

The 72 dpi you see in the EXIF header information on your images reflects the dot pitch on a Macintosh monitor from the 1980s. Most monitors are now in the 90 to 100 dpi realm.

To say that the images should be "photographed" at 300 dpi means you have a really crappy camera and only expect have images with a resolution of 278x185 pixels on a DSLR sized sensor, and a lot less for a point & shoot camera.
I think what they mean is the photographs should be PRINTED (not photographed) at 300 dpi which is what most commercial photo processing labs do (e.g. Fuji Frontier systems you find at most drug stores).

If the nimbnods really insist that the EXIF information says 300dpi, you can change the dpi settings in your EXIF header two ways. You can change this in Photoshop. Uncheck the resample checkbox so you don't change the number of pixels. Save the file. If you need to resize, you can turn on the resampling again.
You can also use EXIFTOOL to change the header contents in your image, specifically the "x resolution" and "y resolution" (dpi numbers).
