Is it possible to use my Canon Powershot SD400 as a webcam? If so, HOW?

I have Canon Powershot SD400 digital photo camera and would like to use it as a webcam, if of course it's possible to do at all. If you can help me out, I would be really grateful!

Read your camera manual. If it is possible at all, this feature must be mentioned and explained there.

The battery is a lithium battery pack nb-4L and I can't find a replacement charger. If you know where to find one, that would be helpful also.

Are you saying that Canon no longer produces chargers for that battery?

The SD 400 is over 3 years old ... you may want to consider buying a new camera if Canon has discontinued the NB-4L charger. What happened to yours? Did it just stop working?

I will be traveling soon and need to know what sort of adapter I need. I know the plugs are different but what about the voltage?

You don't have to worry about voltages...you just need to buy a travel adaptor plug for all your electrical appliances when you travel to Australia.
Just plug your appliance into the converter plug and then plug it into the electrical outlet.
You can buy these converter plugs anywhere that electrical and travel goods & accessories are sold (including airports).
If you are from the U.S. you need to buy an adapter plug to suit US to Australia (US/AUS).
It's as simple as that.

What's wrong with my Canon Powershot SD400 digital camera?

It's been a great camera for two years, and then today when I try to turn it on, it just shows the "startup" screen image, then beeps like three times, then turns back off. I charged the battery just to make sure, but it's still doing the same thing! Is my camera broken?!

Does the lens come out? The beeps on startup are usually a sign that something is preventing the lens from coming out. Sometimes that can be from dust/sand that has gotten into the grooves or it can be from a dent if the camera was dropped. Usually the screen will have some more information as to what the problem was. That uses a Li-Ion battery which don't last forever. After a couple of years, they need to be replaced because they can no longer hold their charge. That is another possible problem you could be having.

Nothing can charge your camera unless It has an internal battery.If it does happen to have an internal battery, then Yes, the USB Port WILL charge your camera battery.

P.S.I would advise you to buy a regular charge(Just In Case)

I use a 2 gig and it works fine but a new 4 gig card gives a memory card error message. I do not know if the card is the problem or if it is too large for this camera.

Should I upgrade my Canon Powershot SD400 digital camera for SD600?

I recently dropped and broke my SD400 and sent it in to Canon for repairs. The estimated cost is $115. However, Canon has also offered me a deal to buy a refurbished Powershot SD600 for $125. Is the SD600 that much better than the SD400? Is a refurbished camera worth it?

At first, I was going to say that you should get the SD1000 instead, but now that I read the conditions in your circumstance, I'd certainly go for the SD600. Look at it this way - it's at least $10-worth more camera than your SD400 and the SD600 will have a factory warranty for the whole camera, won't it? You repaired SD400 won't. The warranty alone is worth ten bucks, even if it is only for 90 days.

I know that the SD1000 has a whole new processor (Digic III) and the SD600 has the "older" Digic II processor. I am GUESSING that the SD400 has an older processor than Digic II. The SD600 offers ISO 800 as the highest speed. It's probably not a "great" 800, but at least it's there if you need it.

No, the PowerShot SD400 is not waterproof.

The underwater setting is for use with a waterproof case.
