Canon PowerShot SD700 IS LCD Replacement
This is my Canon SD700 IS. It has survived a 30ft fall into concrete. The LCD was crack and needs to be replaced. So here is how to do it. If you ...

Is Canon powershot SD700 got replaced with Canon powershot SD800 (Digital Camera) ?
I bought a camera Canon powershot SD700 2 weeks ago. Now SD800 got released. Should I retun Sd700 & buy SD800? But Canon Powershot D700 Zoom got stuck. I am planning to return that camera. I hardly used it. Even to exchange this with another one, they don't have 700 in the store. They have SD800. Price is $60 in difference. It looks exactly like SD700, with little upgrade. I am wondering may be I will have same problem even if I buy SD800(Zoom). I really like the size & functionality of this camera. You think Canon replaced SD700 with SD800.?
Howcome I can't find any SD700 s in the stores? Any suggestions.
Thanks in advance.

I would pay the little extra cash and get the newer SD800 IS.
It still has image stabilization
has an extra Megapixel
has a wider lens (28-105mm)
and a higher resolution LCD
and the new Digic III processor.
Just like computer and other technologies, you buy something, and it's already outdated.
Is CANON POWERSHOT SD700 IS a good choice for a digital camera?
I'm planning to buy a canon digital camera.. Can anyone help me on this one? thank you!
I have a sony cyber shot and love it!
i like my canon sd450 alot it do a very good job n word the $$$ u spend on it, how ever if the picture is taking at night it not impress me much like alitte to dark back ground , but most the digital camera have the same that problem.
so go to http://shopping.com to compare the product & price to see for ur self.
by the way i like sd630 more than the sd700 both have 6Mp but sd700 have 4x optical zoom n sd630 have 3x optical zoom that make not much differance but it $70 cheaper for sd630.

Which camera is better...Canon powershot SD700 or SD1000? What's the difference between the style A and SD
I hate trying to find the right camera...I need one that takes good low-light pictures and has almost no shutter lag for action shots...I always thought that the A styles weren't as good as the SD? Is that right? I am so confused....I know I want a canon though...
I'm actually getting the SD750.
The 750 and 1000 are the newest from the Canon ELPH series.
The only difference between them are looks, and the 750 has a 3" LCD screen, while the 1000 only has a 2.5". But between the 2 that you're looking at, I'd say go with the 1000. I really like the simple look of it, and canons are the best!
Amazon.com has a lot of customer reviews for the cameras. You can also look at pics that customers have uploaded, and they usually say what setting the pics were taken. Good Luck!
the A series is larger

I did a series of side-by-side tests to compare the SD700-IS and the SD900, just to see if I was still happy with my camera. The SD700-IS compares very favorably. Personally, I chose the SD900 images, but another "top contributor" here prefered the SD700-IS images. I found that I could use the "Vivid Colors" setting in the SD900 to get the "snap" that he liked better in the SD700-IS.

It costs $300, has good zoom range and the image stabilization to go with it. It's SMALL and good looking. Great LCD and it still has an optical viewfinder.

(In Europe, this same camera is known as the IXUS 800 IS, so don't let the label on the camera confuse you. This is NOT the SD800-IS, which is known in Europe as the IXUS 850 IS.)
Many people will recommend the SD800-IS over the SD700-IS and I would disagree. The SD800-IS has a slightly wider angle lens, but the reviews say, "there is a slight, but noticeable drop off in sharpness towards the edges and corners in some circumstances." Also, the SD800-IS only zooms to an equivalent of 105 mm while the SD700-IS goes to 140 mm.
The SD700-IS is clearly "upscale" from the SD1000, even though the SD1000 is a new release.
The major difference between the SD- and A-series cameras is their size. I started to compare and contrast and I realized that many things that used to distinguish one series from the other less than a year ago are no longer valid.
There are a couple of things that are still valid, though.
None of the current SD-series offer user control via aperture- and shutter-priority. The A-series all use "AA" batteries are easier to find if you need some in the field. The SD-series are all truly pocket-sized. They also use a Li-ion battery good for 200 shots or more. The SD's have the coolness factor, also.
Are there any cameras coming out that are better than the Canon PowerShot SD700 IS Digital Elph Camera?
I want to buy the latest digital camera. Is there a sd800 is coming out????????
well there will always be a new camera thats better then the old one. so yes. however a good camera will not be replaced for about 2 years or so.
There are many many better cameras than this if you want SLR multi lens camera, but they come with a high price tag. Check out Nikon, Olympus and Hasselblad for a good camera.
There is ONE camera that I think can compete with the SD700IS. Each have their own merits. But the Fuji F30 is truly a unique little machine. If you want to take natural light indoor shots- instead of an annoying on-board flash- it's the ONLY compact camera. It's ISO800 is near noise free and the ISO1600 is pretty dang good. This resolution is right up there next to the Canon, although it does have a bit more purple fringing if you don't watch the aperture. I'd say it's overall, a better camera, but takes someone who knows how to use it to get the very best shots out of it.
see reviews below
Which digital camera should i buy ,Fuji Finepix F40fd or Canon Powershot SD700 IS ?
The Canons consistently receive better reviews, while their lens quality and response time are better. The Fujinon lens and the F40fd's sensor is pretty sweet though...tough decision, but I would stick with the Canon. Better quality camera, better quality pictures--better camera.
canon PowerShot SD700 IS?
how do i adjust manually the aperture and shutter speed for canon PowerShot SD700 IS???? in manuall mode i have seen only ISO setting but not aperture and shutter speed setting..how do i set them...???
You don't. You can work around this a little by altering the EV up or down, by learning about AE-lock, or changing the ISO.
AE Lock is set by half-pressing the shutter release while you aim at a subject where you like the lighting and while holding the button half-way, press the ISO button in. You can now recompose and it will hold that setting until you press ISO again to cancel it.
You can also use "HI ISO," which will change to the next higher ISO automatically in order to provide a faster shutter speed. This works as an automatic ISO selector. If that's not satisfactory, you can just change the ISO manually in manual mode.
You CAN set long shutter times varying from one second to 15 seconds using the Long Shutter Mode. The camera will try to set an appropriate aperture, but sometimes you can't find a good match and you have to keep changing the shutter speed - usually to a faster speed.
Select the manual mode on your camera.
You can not use long shutter in automatic.
Press the "MENU" button.
Stay in the shooting menu (camera icon).
Scroll down to "Long Shutter" and select "On."
Press the "MENU" button to turn off the menu.
Press the "FUNC" button.
Scroll down to the +/- exposure compensation setting.
You will see the usual (-2)-to-(+2) scale, but you will also see the word "MENU" above the scale as well as a little icon of the moon and stars. This is a reminder that you have the long shutter option selected and that you press the "MENU" button to engage the shutter time selection.
Press the "MENU" button and the (-2)-to-(+2) scale disappears and you will see (1") displated in the center. This indicates that you are set to one second.
Use the scroll button (right-left arrow button - the usual button to make manu changes) to change this setting. You will find several presets and these are what you are limited to. They include (among others):
1" = 1 second
1"3 = 1.3 seconds
1"6 = 1.6 seconds
2" = 2 seconds
and so on up to:
15" - 15 seconds.
This will give you a lighter image and it might be too overexposed, but you can check your monitor and adjust accordingly and make additional adjustments to the time and try again.
video playback on Canon PowerShot SD700 IS?
i just got a new Canon PowerShot SD700 IS 6MP Digital Elph Camera and tested the video feature.
when it plays back the video its sort of 'choppy' - more like it gets stuck on a frame and continues - like it's having trouble processing the video...
Is the problem with the card or the camera?
when i transfer to pc, the video is good without problems.
I also have the SD700 IS and it's a great little camera. My guess is...you're not using a fast SD card.
For shooting high quality movies, as well as fast camera performance, you should always use a high speed memory card.
I would highly recommend the Sandisk Extreme III (1 or 2 GB)...it's super fast and comes with a lifetime warranty.
good luck...
For how long can the Canon Powershot SD700 IS take video for?
With a 1GB SD Card
From the usa.canon site:
Fast Frame Rate Movie Mode allows you to record extremely smooth, full-motion movie clips for up to 1 minute long in QVGA at 60 fps (320 x 240 pixels). With a highly flexible movie mode, you can create the movie that's perfect for any application. Select from VGA (640 x 480 pixels) and QVGA (320 x 240 pixels) with frame rates of 30 fps and 15 fps for recording up to 1 hour or 1GB. Plus Compact Movie Mode (QQVGA; 160 x 120 pixels) records at 15 fps for up to 3 minutes.
Powershot SD700 IS vs SD800 IS?
I am ready to buy a new digital camera. This will be my third in 4 years. My current one (a FujiFilm) is great, however it is around the size of a SLR camera. The wife wants a more compact one, so I've decided on one of Canon's Powershots. I've given three as gifts over the years and the photos always look great.
I cannot decide on the SD700 vs SD800. The 800 are more expensive, by $100 or so, but the cameras otherwise are very similar. The 800 has a better resolution at 7 megapixels versus 6 for the 700, but I can't convince myself that the 7 will matter much more than the 6.
Anyone work with these cameras or is very familiar with Canon's line? I'd like some advice on why to choose the newer 800 (more expensive one) today over the 700 (less expensive). As you can tell, I like to upgrade cameras fairly routinely, so moving up in a year and a half to another camera is fine.
Reviews on CNET show that the 700 actually has a higher user score.
You are correct on the Mega Pixel. There's almost no different between 6 and 7 MP. The differences between these 2 camera are minor and the price different is only about $50 on most Internet retailer.
Three differences I want to point out is the zoom range of the lens and the ISO setting. The 700 can zoom out a bit more (140mm vs 105mm) but its not as wide as the 800 (28mm vs 35mm). So, ask yourself if you want a wider angle or zoom out a bit more.
The 800 will allow you to set the ISO to 1600. But I think you will hardly take any picture at 1600 since the image will be so noisy that the picture will not be a keeper.
The 800 will also allow you to take picture at 3:2 ratio. This is the ratio that was used by 35mm film camera and most standard print size is 3:2 ratio too. That means what you shoot is what you get from the print out without any cropping.
Hope this help.
Canon PowerShot SD700 IS or Canon PowerShot SD630?
I like the fact that the sd700 IS has a Stabilized Zoom. I don't know if I should pay a little more money for it though or if the sd630 will do fine without it....anyone own one of these?
I have the SD700 IS and I really like it. Its so compact and fun to use. (it's my handbag cam) lol.
AS the Doc says...the SD630 has no optical viewfinder, which means you will always have to use the LCD screen to compose your photos. However, most people who have a small compact camera will never, ever use the viewfinder. You would mainly use it if your battery is low and you then turn off the LCD to conserve battery power...so you can get a few more shots before the battery dies. (regular charging or buying a second, backup battery is always an option).
The optical viewfinder on these small cameras is nothing to write home about though, (they only show approx. 82% of the scene).
The SD630 has a large 3.0" LCD, 6MP, 3x optical (and recently won a European award for 'best ultra compact') so it's a good camera.
The SD700 IS has a 2.5" LCD screen, 6MP, 4x optical and an image stabilizer...and I think it looks more stylish compared to the SD630.
Either one is good...it might just depend on your budget, but if you don't need such a big screen, get the SD700 IS.
