Canon releases new superzoom PowerShot TechRadar UK
Canon has announced a new superzoom compact camera to slot into its PowerShot line-up. The SX150 IS boasts 12x optical zoom and new Intelligent IS technology.
Also on board is a 14.1-million pixel sensor and 4-stop optical Image Stabiliser. Combined with the new Intelligent IS technology, image blur as a result of camera shake should be minimised.
Intelligent IS automatically detects what the scene is to select the most appropriate form of image stabilisation from seven settings which include Normal IS, Dynamic IS, Powered IS, Panning IS, Macro IS, Tripod mode and Dynamic Macro IS. Powered IS is a feature that has been brought over from Canon's LEGRIA camcorder range.
The 12x optical zoom lens is equivalent to 28mm-336mm in 35mm format.
Smart AutoSmart Auto, Face Detection and Advanced Subject Detection technology are also included which can detect a shooting scene from 32 variables to automatically adjust the camera's settings.
A 7.5cm/3 inch LCD screen can be found on the back of the camera, which also displays hints and tips throughout the menu system, designed to help beginner photographers.
The camera is also capable of shooting in 720p high definition, with a dedicated movie record button which allows for instant switch from stills to HD movies. You can also shoot videos in Apple's iFrame format.
Creative Filters are available, including Fish-eye, super vivid, poster effect, toy camera effect, monochrome and miniature effect. Miniature effect can also be used in video mode, to help create tilt-shift effect movies.
For shooting family portraits, the shutter can be activated with a wink or smile, or by using the FaceSelf-Time trigger.
A new external flash, the HF-DC2 is compatible with the PowerShot SX10.

Canon Powershot SX10 IS pictures of moving objects?
If you take pictures of a ... for example of a slow moving bus with a Canon Powershot SX10 IS during the daylight will the picture come out clear?
Also what about taking a photo of a parked car or bus with out flash at night with snow? will it come out clear and will snowflakes be easily visable in the photo?
During the day probably, the shutter speed should be fast enough. At night its different because you need to use a slower shutter speed. The aperture is not going to be wide enough, especially without a high ISO to get a fast enough shutter speed at night. Because of the small sensors on point and shoots high ISO cause large amounts of noise. To make snowflakes appear visible is difficult at night, especially with a long shutter speed because they wont collect enough light to show up, your picture may just take on a hazy sort of look. An off camera flash will do the trick but that requires an investment of at least a few hundred to get started.
How good is the video quality of the Canon Powershot SX10 IS?
Should I just buy a digital camera AND a camcorder? Or is the video quality of the SX10 good enough to replace a camcorder? What gigabyte of SDHC card would be appropriate for shooting videos?
Not any P&S camera can match the quality found on the most modest camcorder and certainly none of the features found on camcorders.
The video feature on P&S cameras are just a little marketing feature, never meant to replace a true video camera
If your goal is to make video shorts of other homegrown videos, look to camcorders made by Canon, Panasonic, JVC or Sony
what is the best camera canon powershot SX10 IS, sony cyber-shot H50 or nikon coolpix P80?
so im looking for the best overall camera function. I will most likely use it for sports, landscapes and portraits. So these are the 3:
-canon powershot SX10 IS
-Sony cyber-shot H50
-Nikon coolpix P80
Thanks
P.S. price does not matter

do you like the canon PowerShot SX10 IS?
do you like the canon PowerShot SX10 IS ? Whats good about it , and whats not good about it? is the LCD screen big, medium or small ?
Oh no...not this question again! You are still deciding about this camera and the SX110 IS. Trust me (and all the others) it's a good camera. You will be VERY happy with it.
So, what are you waiting for? the next model to come out? lol
Not an interchangable lens camera, so not geared for the advanced amature, but a very flexable for a quality desiring point and shoot user.
I like having the manual controls because they actually let you learn about photography and take some real photos, instead of being stuck on nothing but Auto.
The 20x zoom is fantastic!
The flip out screen is just the most wonderful thing out. You will learn to adore it for so many reasons.
When I moved up to DSLR's, I knew I would miss the flip out screen and I do........ I still do and always will.
Go for it, that camera is an excellent choice.
Does the canon powershot sx10 is work well in dark rooms?
I am looking at buying this camera as I go to a lot of concerts and need the longer room it provides and want something decent for the bad lighting in there. I really like this camera but just need to know how it will hold up. Thanks
Oops I need the longer zoom not room lol.
Thanks Milo, with the plays and recitals do you use the zoom much or are you normally fairly close anyways? Just wondering how bad it would be at full zoom
depends on how dark exactly. Though I personally have this camera and it works fine. I have no trouble taking pictures at the recent plays and recitals that i have gone to. . . that were dark.
I am torn between the Canon Powershot sx10 IS, Olympus SP570 and the Olympus SP565. Any suggestions?
I am more interested in picture quality than the bells and gongs. thank you.
I would choose the canon
What is the best way or mode to take fast action photos with no blur with the Canon Powershot sx10 IS? ?
i know that there is a mode called servo af but im confused about that.
i also know u can increase the shutter speed but that lets less light in and the picture becomes dark. Thanks for answering
Get the camera out of auto mode.
If you are in good outdoor light this is an easy way.
Just get into the manual mode.
Change only the ISO to 400
That will naturally kick up the shutter speed.
Try your shots again.
This is a super simple thing. Take the time to learn your camera and look for some photography info online, there's lots of free stuff out there to explain ISO and how it relates to shutter speed and aperture etc.
Good luck.
Canon Powershot SX10 IS or Nikon P80 for clearer pictures?
I am deciding between the two, and would just like to know which camera would give me better quality pictures more of the time than the other one. If these will not give me really clear pictures, which camera in the same area, (20x zoom, 10 mp) will give me crisp clear pictures?
The SX10 will probably deliver what you're looking for more of the time. Lens based image stabilisation is more effective at the long end of the zoom range where you really need it. The SX10 has this, but the Nikon uses sensor-shift.
The Canon also has the slightly longer focal length, so you'll less often be tempted to creep into the digital zoom range where sharpness goes out of the window.
Should I buy the Panasonic DMC-FZ28S or the Canon PowerShot SX10 IS?
I'm a teen, & I would like my parents to purchase a new camera for me. I lost my old one, & I'm looking for a new one within a considerable price range, which a very good optical zoom. Which one should i purchase and why?
the reviews I have read
favor the panasonic
and it is cheaper
adorama.com has it for $240
Which series or model should I buy from Canon? EOS D1000, PowerShot G10, PowerShot SX10 IS or IXUS's?
I looking for a solid camera for taking great photo as a hobbyist on anything, really everything like scenery, animal, people, etc. I'm between entry to mid level. I never use a SLR camera before. Thinking to try one, but it does not offer video recording and may seems too bulky. I need something that can take great photo with 'not so complicated' functionality.
I need something that have 28mm wide eg. for group photo, quick shot (not the slow type that take 3sec for a shot like compact), high quality photo result for anything that beautiful, maybe good video resolution too, zoom power, image stabilization. Budget is SGD600 to SG1000.
Basically a great overall camera that is great for all kind of shooting be it in the park, the beach, outdoors, indoor, food taking, insects, animal, clouds, people, something at night too.
