I have a Pentax k100, and I am an amateur, but it came with the 18-55 mm lens, which is decent, but I would like substantial zoom, with some good bang for the buck. ANyone have any suggestions on what lens(es) I should buy next, and where I might be able to find them at a decent price? I love my photographs, and I do have an eye for it, but the technical stuff confuses me a tad, and I would appreciate some detailed answers on why the lens you suggest is the best one for me right now. I take a lot of landscapes, portraits, macro, etc, but the zoom on the 18-55mm isnt as far as I want it to be. I appreciate it, thank you!

Answer by Greg SYour next lens should be the Pentax DA 50-200 ($ 249 sugg. retail). Sigma offers a 50-500 lens in a Pentax mount if you really want to explore the telephoto end.

Controls within the camera’s own menu system allow you to choose print quantity, size, and image cropping. When using Canon’s card photo printer CP-100, with the optional battery pack, prints can be made in the field away from a power supply.

Как правило, на дисплее камеры существует шкала с отметкой уровня экспозиции (по умолчанию) на нуле — это когда на полученной фотографии светло-серый цвет будет светло-серым.
Увеличение экспозиции делает изображение светлее, а краски — мягче, тогда как ее уменьшение усилит драматичность тонов и обогатит колорит. Если вы фотографируете, например, художественную картину, то правильной экспозицией будет та, которая точно отобразит все цвета, однако для снимков с чисто эстетическими целями советую выбрать экспозицию, создающую нужный вам эффект.
Экспозиционную ошибку, например слишком темное изображение, можно подкорректировать во всеми любимом графическом редакторе Photoshop с помощью инструмента коррекции Levels (уровни), который находится в меню Image (изображение) в группе инструментов Adjustments (коррекция).
Во‑первых, рекомендую установить точку черного и точку белого на изображении для увеличения количества всех цветов. Например, был просто зеленый цвет, а мы с помощью белого и черного получим многообразие оттенков от светло-зеленого до темно-зеленого. Для этого возьмем в окне инструмента белую пипетку, показанную стрелкой под номером 1, и кликнем ею на любом светлом участке изображения, черной пипеткой — на любом темном (как правило, в тенях). После этого можно подрегулировать экспозицию с помощью ползунка, показанного стрелкой 2. При движении его вправо изображение потемнеет, влево — станет светлее.
Практикум
Эту фотографию я сделал на 174‑м учебном полигоне ВВС и войск ПВО Доманово во время оперативно-тактического учения «Запад-2009». Вечерело, был очень красивый закат. Двое солдат из роты охраны занимались маскировкой ЗРК «Оса». Но было недостаточно темно, и если бы я снимал со стандартной экспозицией, то на фотографии небо получилось бы светлым пятном, лица солдат были бы четко видны. Для придания снимку драматизма я уменьшил экспозицию на несколько ступеней. Фигуры людей превратились в силуэты, зато небо получилось живописным, вызывающим ощущение тревоги.

Which SLR is better: Canon EOS 10D or the Canon 300D?
I've been working with a film camera for years and now want to try digital. I can't buy the latest Canon out there, right now. Help?!
honestly, i'd go for a nikon D200 or D80. they're are better value. but if you really want a canon i'd go for the 300D

I take it you have some Canon EOS EF mount lenses that will work on the Canon DLSR's.
Currently I use Fuji S2 and Nikon D70 and never had that kind of problem. If I was to underexpose these camera the images would look just grainy (as expected). I am not a Nikon bigot. These are just my experiences.

Canon EOS 10D vs EOS 300D vs Nikon D40?
Can someone help me to choose between these SLR's. I'd love to get D40 because it's the latest of these three but it has a limited no. of affordable lenses e.g. for macro or wide angle and I'm stuck with the 18-55mm kit. As for 10D it is the most advanced and has solid magnesium alloy body, but a lot heavier. As for 300D, it has less functions than 10D, it feels 'plasticky' and the lens kit is rubbish.

Fhotoace has given you a really good answer (as always), but I thought that 10D is a bit dated (there have been 20D, 30D and now 40D). You're correct of course to say that the body is more 'solid' than the 300D.
I thought the kit lens for 300D (Digital Rebel) was acceptable. It does feel cheap, but it was not like a coke bottle..

The 10D is very old (about 3 and 1/2 years old) and least advanced of the three.

Actually Nikon DSLR's have the most number of affordable lenses, new and used. And the D40 can use all the Nikon autofocus lenses (AF-S, AF-I) from 1992-present.
