Daily Online News L&Si Online (press release)
UK - ETC is showing a number of new and updated products at PLASA 2011, including the newest control desk in the company's award winning Eos line: Gio.
Officially launching at PLASA, the ETC Gio is designed to fill the mid-range position in the Eos family, between Eos and Ion. It offers the power of full Eos functionality, but in a smaller footprint. Features include integrated, articulating multi-touch displays and helpful backlit keys. The look of the desk itself is elegantly polished and minimalist.
ETC controls product manager Anne Valentino says: "We first showed Gio to customers at our end user conference, Cue, in Wisconsin in July, and it had an extremely positive response. We'd had a lot of demand for a desk to fill the space between the full-size Eos and the highly compact Ion.
"We're revealing full details of the desk to visitors on the stand; we'll then be offering more details to our friends in the press in the week following PLASA. However, you can also find more details on our website, etcconnect.com."
Selador Desire
ETC is also showing for the first time at PLASA its new ultra bright, high colour, energy efficient Selador Desire D40, D40XT and D60 lines of LED luminaires, including the unique Studio for broadcast work. These fixtures are earning high praise for their ability to blend beautifully with conventional tungsten colour and light in today's greener hybrid lighting rigs.
Selador's x7 Color System adds four more colours to LEDs' traditional RGB mix, radically expanding the colour range and power. For more integrated communication with lighting consoles, RDM (Remote Device Management) protocol is available for patching, setting addresses and adjusting settings without having to climb up to the fixture itself. Stand alone operation is also included as standard, so Desire fixtures can be controlled from a push button panel on the back of each; and they can be networked together to create sequences and chases without the need for a lighting desk.
Selador LED shoot out and studio recreation
You can see a demonstration of Selador in an LED fixture shoot out on the STLD stand at PLASA 2011. Taking place twice a day, fixtures from a number of manufacturers are compared to traditional tungsten and HID lighting. In addition, there are case study seminars for visitors to learn from presentations on a variety of subjects, including a recreation of the Selador Classic LED-equipped ITV Daybreak studio.
ETC has created a website at www.layersoflight.com giving full details of each of the Desire fixtures, including examples and case studies.
Sensor3 with Thru~Power
High reliability dimming now combines with remote activated mechanical relay and Thru~Power bypass to create the foundation of a completely flexible power system design for your future, says ETC. Sensor3 dimmable Thru~Power modules allows free mixing of "Dim", "switch", or "manual bypass" on a circuit by circuit basis without replacing the hardware in your Sensor power system. ETC's Thru~Power bypass solution is the only product on the market to use Mechanical relays which completely eliminate the problematic effects of thyristor based switching (SCR and Triac) bypasses on moving lights and power supplies that are unable to be run on conventional dimmers. A local bypass override also latches the relay to completely bypass the control system to guarantee that the unsuspecting board operator does not dim your intelligent lighting source.
The company says: "Sensor3 with Thru~Power rises to new levels of performance with CEM3 Power Control. In addition to controlling dimmed, switched (relay), and constant bypass modes of Sensor3's Thru~Power circuits, this high performance processor is designed to reduce setup time, simplify system backups, and remove all barriers to networking your lighting system."
A new and larger graphical display, a numeric keypad, built-in data loss protection, USB quick load storage option and zero setup controller replacement makes troubleshooting simpler than ever. Battery backup keeps the CEM3 processor running through power outages, and Network connections to the control desk provide remote management of dimmer setup, status and control.
Unison Mosaic wall mount controller
New to ETC's Unison Mosaic controller range is the wall mount Tessera Panel Controller with integrated 4.3" touchscreen interface. Capable of controlling 512 channels, it offers similar functionality to the Mosaic MSC1 Controller, but in a neat flush mount package and with Ethernet-based DMX output.
In addition, ETC has released a new Mosaic Show Controller: MSC4, which has the same features as MSC1 and MSC2, but with four DMX universes.
These and many other products from ETC's lighting, dimming and control ranges are on show and available for demonstration on ETC's PLASA stand, number 1-G39, beside the bar and business lounge in the centre of Hall 1.

Canon D60 Review
CANON D60 CAMERA Review one of the best CANON D60 Product find out where to get the best deal on CANON D60

What SLR should I get: Nikon D80, D40x, D60, or Canon EOS Rebel?
Serious hobby only, not for professional use (beginner, entry-level).What does it mean when they say "body only"? Does that mean I need to purchase lens separately? Or is any unit I buy fully equipped as a standard set? Thanks
D80 = D60 + Support for old lenses that don't have a motor drive of their own. So you won't need a D80 anyway.
For a beginner like me, choosing between D60 and D40 would be a matter of cost vs. some fine features. (D60 comes to $950+ with a 135mm lens, D40 comes to $750+ with a 135mm lens). I am thinking of going for a D60.
I don't know about EOS Rebel.
keep in mind u're first dslr camera will most likely be the brand that you'll be sticking with for the rest of your life, unless you're willing to part off everything such as camera body and lenses to change the brand from nikon to canon or vice versa, so think carefully which one you'll want in the long run.
Get the d80. When they say body only that means that it doesn't come with a lens. So yeah, you have to get it separately. However, the d80 is the most expensive, and has the most to offer for the serious hobbyist. The d80 is much more comfortable in hand.

It's a given that both are good cameras, why don't you go to an electronics or camera store and handle and play with both of them. Chances are one will feel better in your hand and you will like the layout better on one. I think canon's layout makes it more user friendly but that is probably because that is what I shoot with.
Nikon d60 or Canon EOS Rebel XSi?
I'm going to buy my first SLR camera soon. which one would You recommend Nikon d60 or Canon EOS Rebel XSi and why?
Rebel XSi!!
I used one previously and i have experience with canon and olympus. The Rebel has all the same functions, but they are easier to access. Plus the rebel has a Tungsten light function that that gives you a more-white, less-yellow image without flash. I used one at an art gallery open and I took some wicked pictures.
Would you buy the Nikon D60, or Canon EOS Rebel XS?
This is my first SLR. I am very creative and have an excellent eye, but am not technically trained. I would like to capture portraits and landscapes in more detail and want to be able to take photos at night.
I don't know much about cameras and would appreciate any insight. Thanks!!
I use a Canon, but I have colleagues that have the D60 and love it as much as I love my Canon.
They both take great pictures and have similar features. I do think that the canons have a better light metering system than the Nikons however, if you are not planning on using an external light meter.
There are two parts of photography, the technical and the aesthetic. You have to have both in equal measures if you expect to become successful at it.
For under $150, you can buy an excellent used Nikon or Canon 35 mm SLR with standard zoom and take some classes in photography ... when you are competent with the technical aspects of using a camera, then decided on which DSLR to buy ... Both Nikon and Canon make excellent cameras so choosing the right one for you will be a matter of holding each in your hands and seeing which one "feels" the best to you.

The Nikon D40. It is a DSLR and you can get the kit with a 18mm - 55mm lens right now for $450 brand new. I get most of my stuff used and if you order the D40 used you can get it for $350.
If you can afford more I would say the D90 or Canon 5D/ Canon 5D Mark II
I have a recommended cameras review on my website if you want to check it out.

Sony A200k, nikon d60 or canon eos 400d?
I'm about to purchase my first slr camera and of course i want it to be the one that is really good.
So can you help me firgure out what to buy? I'm actually buying it online.. like on credit and stuff.
The prices are:
Sony A200k - from £565 now £385
Nikon d60 - £ 525.00
Canon EOS 400d - £649
I heard that the best one to purchase is the Canon one.. So I dunoo really which one is really the best buy..
The Sony gives you the best bang for buck by far compared to a fairly dated but still good Nikon d60, and the difference between price for the 450d is definitely not worth it IMO.
You can get the SONY a200 from amazon with twin lens kit 18-70mm + 75-300mm for £402
All 3 are very capable cameras take a look at the pictures people have taken with them on flickr:

You won't be disappointed with any of them, my personal choice would be the a200 though.

This is one amazing camera. 14.7 Megapixels and DIGIC technology for better clarity. Check this out.
Happy Hunting for a better camera.
10.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor, EOS Integrated Cleaning System, 2.5" LCD, 9-point wide-area AF, Picture Styles, DIGIC II, 3fps with up to 27 frame burst, DPP RAW image processing software, Compact and lightweight, EF/EF-S lens and EX Speedlite flash compatible.. So you can have this camera
I'm using the D60 and so far,i don't have serious problem with it.
If you want to purchase this camera, you should consider about the lens.
Nikon d40/x and d60 cannot autofocus with many older lens (and the newer one).
If you want to buy many lens to suit you photography style, consider the nikon d80 or nikon d90 to avoid the autofocus problem(if you really use it).
Which camera Canon EOS 450D or Nikon D60?
I am due to start a photography course in sept and need a d-slr camera but can't decide between these two camera's. Which is the better the camera for beginners? Also are Tamron lens any good?
Any help appreciated thanks
Canon and Nikon are both fine makes of cameras, although Canon tend to lead in development and Nikon tend to follow.
I would tend to buy proprietary lenses I have a Canon digital slr, so I have bought Canon lenses particularly the white lenses, having said that I have a tamron 100 to 300 zoom lens which is a nice piece of glass however my 70 to 200 mm white canon lens is a superb lens, is a far better lens than the Tamron , how ever it also cost a lot more. Like wise I also have a white Canon 400 mm prime lense and that is a superb lens. I have gone for the faster lenses in my others such as an 85 mm f2 and a 24 to 120 mm f2 zoom.
However go to a shop that sells both makes of camera and try similar lenses for each make and see what you find easier to use, that really is the best way to choose
nikon d60 or canon eos 450d?
im not a professional photographer or anything I am just going to do a lot of traveling in the next couple of years and want to know what the best digital slr camera is that wont break my wallet. let me know what you guys think. trying to get the body and lens for around 750 or lower.
Go for the Canon
Canon EOS XSI vs 30D vs Nikon D60 vs D80?
I know the xsi and D60 are the newest cameras out there but is it better to buy a late model slr camera like the 30D or D80?
I know the xsi and D60 are the newest cameras out there but is it better to buy a late model slr camera like the 30D or D80?
I know cameras arent a fashion statement. I wanted to know if the difference in technology (because of the age gap) will affect the image quality (xsi digic 3 compared to 30D's digic 2 processor)
The xsi is nowhere from 600-800 but more like 800-1000
The D60 is at least 700
And i did find a 30D body for 800 and a d80 kit for 900
none of these cameras are over 1000
Yeah, what Saeed said.
Just to reiterate:
The Canon 30D is a cut above the other cameras in your list. It has a metal body vs. plastic; it can shoot 5 frames per second vs. 3; and it has a few extra knobs and buttons to change settings on the fly whereas with the other cameras you'd have to change more settings in the menu. These are the features that make the 30D a better and more expensive camera. Not the image quality. That's the same.
The Canon XSi is positioned between the 2 Nikons in your list. Being the newest camera of the bunch (so new you that you have to get on a waiting list), it has a couple of extra bells & whistles. The most important of which, is that you can use the LCD screen on the back to compose your shot. With the other cameras, you can only use the optical viewfinder for this.
The D80 is aimed towards serious amateurs. It's a better all-around camera than the XSi... if you don't need the live view feature.
And the D60 is a very decent but basic entry level camera.
These four cameras all produce roughly the same image quality. The price difference is mostly determined by the extra features. The Canon/ Nikon lens and accessory range is also about equal - they both have everything you could possibly need, from entry level to professional.
If you want to read in-depth reviews per camera (except for the XSi which is too new), the best camera sites on the net are:
steves-digicams dot com and dpreview dot com
(There's some kind of new bug on this site that won't allow me to post links.)
which SLR camera should i get?
Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi EF-S 18-55
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=14257#BoxContentsAct
or
Nikon D60
http://www.nikonusa.com/Find-Your-Nikon/Product/Digital-SLR/25438/D60.html
Because both cameras are excellent cameras, you will have to go into a camera store and hold each in your hands to see which one you like the best ergonomically. Next you will have to navigate through the menus and see which is easiest for you to make changes in things like ISO, WB, resolution (RAW, JPEG or RAW + JPEG) and other commonly adjusted settings.
Then you will know.
Digital SLR Question?
I was interested in buying a digital SLR. There are so many different brands, I don't know which one to choose. I have it narrowed down to 5 choices which are in my price range. The four are the:
- Sony alpha 200
-Olympus E - 510
-Nikon D60
-Canon EOS Rebel XSi
In your opinion, which is the best camera? (Hands on experience cited would be nice).
I don't think you would go wrong with either the Nikon or the Canon. I am a nikon person I have several Nikon SLR and DSLR and have used them since the 70's. The first one I bought still works as well as it did the day I bought it. In addition right now Nikon has the best backwards compatibility on lenses and the best performance for low noise at hight ISO. Some folks will tell you that you should not get canon or nikon because the image stabilization is in the lens and not the body. IS/VR in the lens has proved to work better with a lower impact on focusing time than IS in the camera. When its in the camera the stabilization has to move a different amount for each focal length lens. And with a long lens a canon white paper says in body systems would have to move up to 1/4 inch. None of them move that much.
Enjoy whatever camera you get
