3500 fear the axe as Millets fights for survival The Sun

FEARS over the future of outdoor specialist BLACKS LEISURE soared yesterday as it put itself up for sale.

Some 3,500 jobs at the MILLETS owner could go in weeks unless a buyer is found for "some or all" of the business.

Shares fell 50 per cent yesterday as Blacks admitted any deal was unlikely to generate value for investors.

It was seeking a £30million lifeline from either banks or shareholders — who include Newcastle United and SPORTS DIRECT owner Mike Ashley.

Insiders claimed a "pre-pack" administration — where the company collapses and the best bits are "saved" — was likely. Sources close to Mr Ashley suggested he could still rescue the chain.

In a statement yesterday Blacks said: "The directors do not believe that the group will be able to complete a fundraising. As a result the directors now wish to invite offers to support further investment. (This) is most likely to involve a sale of the company or sale of one or more of the group's brands."

Blacks has 300 shops across the UK and debts of £36million — mainly with the BANK OF SCOTLAND . Its market value is now just £1.5million. Former management shut 89 shops two years ago in a previous rescue plan.

The shares were trading at 526p in 2006 but closed last night at 1.88p.

The statement came as electricals chain COMET confirmed the dire state of the high street.

It revealed half-year losses of £22million — four times higher than a year ago. Comet is being sold for £2 by its owners KESA .

Kesa chief Thierry Falque-Pierrotin said the market for TVs was down 20 per cent year on year. He told Sun City: "There will be more promotions this Christmas."

Is the Nokia 3500 and 3500 classic the same phone or are they different?

Like are they all the 3500 classic and people just sometimes don't bother to put classic there?

They are the same thing.

Both are the names of the same mobile phone. Nokia phones are often termed as "Classic" with their model. I know some more Classic sets. Read here http://www.3gmobilephoneoffers.co.uk/manufacturer.php/Nokia

Can you put a 3500 square foot house on half an acre?

We have 1200ft mobile home on our half acre now and we are getting ready to build but we want to make sure we will still have a pretty good sized back yard if we put at 3500 square foot house on our property. We have two dogs and are planning on another.

Yes, but I would suggest hiring someone to for a site plan first. There are certain rules and locations for things to be placed in order for them to connect. Examples: Electricity, sewage, etc.

I would say yes, there are 21780 square feet in half an acre, it depends on your building code such as setbacks on each side, driveway width and length, if you at some time want a pool, how much backyard you want. I think half an acre is plenty of room for that size house.

How do I change the front shocks on my Chevy 3500 box truck and what tools do I need for the job?

I don't want an upgrade, just a direct replacement for the factory parts. Is it dangerous? Also, the front-end is a 3500 Express van, not a 3500 truck

i own a repair shop and on this one its not dangerous, and all you need is a good set of sockets and wrenches, unfortunately some of the bolts on gm products are metric and some aren't,so your going to need a few of each on this, most of the time there not hard to change unless there really rusty, have a good can of wd-40 handy just in case, and take your time ,you,ll get them on with no problems, good luck i hope this helps.

You probably just need some basic hand tools. A socket set and a breaker bar are the usual tools. You will need ramps for the front end; the back shouldn't need to be jacked up at all.

a 1/2, 9/16 and 3/8 wrench or socket and a jack for the front end, no its not dangerous, its very easy actually just make sure to pay attention to what your doing.

if you don't the tools to use you better bring it to Maaco

How long (approximately) would it take to install 3500 sq ft of Solarguard insulation in a celing?

I have never worked with the product and I need to figure out a general estimate for the man hours required to complete the job. My 2001 Dodge 3500 Diesel is leaking radiator fluid from the front of the engine. Any ideas?

My 2001 dodge 3500 diesel is leaking radiator fluid from the front of the engine. All hoses are secured and all seems normal except fluid draining from the front of my engine. Any ideas?

the water pump bolts to the front ofthe block with 2 10mm bolts. It is to the right of the cooling fan drive pulley. It is most likely leaking. There is also an O ring on the piece that connects the lower hose to the engine block, located behind the A/C compressor. These leak but not nearly as much as the water pump.

AAH..one of my favorites. Either your water pump is leaking or the bypass hose is. Normally not noticeable at idle and difficult to see except from under the vehicle. Both easy to replace.

I would say it is your water pump leaking coolant

Water Pump would be the best place to start looking!!

yep, water pump not sealing. on the Cummins engine, the water pump is actually internal to the engine with an impellor mounted on a shaft that goes thru a face plate that mounts to the front of the engine. the other end of the impellor shaft has a pulley that the belt runs on to turn the impellor, therefore pumping water thru the engine cooling system.

in the early designs ('89-'91) of the Cummins, the studs holding this plate on were too small and there was a factory recall to replace them. I had one fail on my '91 with only about 3000 miles on it...

anyway, if you crawl under the truck from the front, look for the pulley that goes thru a plate that is mounted with 2 studs (might be bolts on the later models?). it might just be one of the nuts backed off and you can tighten it... other wise, if still leaking, you will need to pull off the belt, then crawl back under the front and remove the2 nuts, pull the impellor plate/pulley assembly off and replace the seal / gasket that is between the mounting plate and the engine block.

good luck!!!

Take a flash light and look up from underneath and you will probably see the pump leaking. Be care full when you replace it, it uses an o ring instead of a gasket. Lube the o ring so you won't cut it when installing the new one pump.

If the star Betelgeuse star is 3500 K at what wavelength does it emit the most radiation?

If the star Betelgeuse has a surface temperature of approximately 3400 - 3500 K at what wavelength does it emit the most radiation?

Red.... 3500K is about the temperature of a 100w light-bulb filament. Close up, it would look as white as a light bulb. But far away, it is reddish orange. When I was a fireman, I knew the 100w comparison with Betelgeuse, but I could not figure why the light bulb and the star did not look the same. One day I made a fire in a high-rise building. I was on top of an elevator car and looked up 10 stories (about 130 feet) and saw a light-bulb at the top of the elevator shaft. Sure enough, it was as orangy-red as my old friend Beetle-juice.

Is there a chip for a 2003 3500 dodge ram that increases fuel mileage?

I'm wantin to know if there is a cheap chip that could add fuel mileage to a 2003 3500 cummins. I would also like to know where i could get one. I also have the same question for a 1999 ford f-350 powerstroke.

Cheap, probably not. Does it exist, yes. Try www.summitracing.com

How big of an air conditioner do I need for central air in 3500 sq/ft house?

I live in San Diego and I have a 3500 square foot house and with our current air condition unit, it runs and runs, but the upstairs never feels very comfortable during summer.

In a hot climate like San Diego, I'd figure about 1 ton per 500sf, meaning roughly 7 ton. If you have a two story home with only one system, the upstairs is likely to be warmer than downstairs. Heated air rises, while at the same time the sun's beating down on the roof directly above.
Having the AC run and run isn't necessarily a bad thing, as long as it does the job. Over sized systems don't run as much, but can actually cost more on the electric bill, due to higher start and run amp draw. Long cycle times on the smaller system also help dehumidify better. (Probably not an issue in San Diego)
I'd suggest having a small, supplemental system installed, dedicated to the second floor. If you have and accessable attic, it can be installed there;....other options may be available, depending on the layout of the house. There's always a way, though you'll be looking at a minimum of $8-$10 grand for the install.
For the time being, let the blower on the existing system run continuously, this may help even out the temperatures a bit. On the thermostat, just switch the fan from auto to on.
Hope this helps.
20+ yrs HVAC tech.

Rotten is right, to get it nailed down to the btu, you should have a reputable hvac contractor do a heat gain calculation. After they're finished, since hvac equipment is sold in sized increments of 6000 btu, ( when between sizes, opt for the smaller choice) the end result will be roughly (as stated) 7 tons cooling capacity required. He's also right that if a closet install is practical GREAT! (that's one of the other options I mentioned)...depends on the layout of the house, types of ceilings and so on. Assuming that the original system was intended and sized to condition the entire house, you'll likely need a smaller supplemental system. (Now rotten, don't get your panties in a wad)...I'd guess around two tons or so. If you have a particular problem area that needs cooled, you can opt for a much cheaper ductless, mini split system, which would work great for one room, or one area, which you could probably have installed for somewhere in the ballpark of $3500. They work quite well.
Again, hope this helps.

If there are 3500 calories in a pound of fat, what about fat grams?

I know that they say 3500 calories = 1 pound of fat. But what about the fat grams on the nutrition label? How many grams = 1 pound? And how does your body use this fat? Do you burn it the same way as you burn calories? I just don't get it.
So if a nutrition label says an item has 50 calories for example, then all the fat, carb, sugar, etc info is a break down of the calories?

ok, take a step back and start over:

3500 calories eaten that your body does not use will be stored as approx 1 pound of fat.

There are 9 calories in one gram of fat, so 3500 / 9 =389g of fat is equal to about a pound of weight gain if you eat that much and your body does not use any of it.

When you burn calories, you are burning muscle, fat and blood sugar and muscle glycogen as well. Your body does not "just" use one or the other at any given time.

We all use about 1200 calories a day just sitting on our butts. So, most of us who are active, need about 2000 give or take. So, if you ate 3500 calories of protein or carbs or fat over and above the 2000 you need, you could gain a pound in a day. However, our bodies do not work like that. If we used everything we ate, we would not go to the bathroom, yes, we flush down calories every day.

It's a confusing process, but there it is.
