Test video from a Nikon Coolpix 5400
Just something to test out resolutions, light, camera, etc. Sorry for the inconvenience!

I lost the charger for my Nikon coolpix 5400. Can I buy a regular 8.4 ac adapter to charge it?
It says it takes a a/c adapter.
There is a difference in an AC adapter and a battery charger. Nikon sold two different AC accessories for the 5400. One was simply an AC adapter (EH-53) and the other was an AC adapter/battery charger (EH-21).
I believe that, if you try to charge your battery while it is in the camera with a regular AC adapter, the camera would probably work okay, but it would not charge the batteries. I have an EH-21 and it is not even designed to charge the battery in the camera. It has the regular receptacle where you place the battery to charge, but there is an additional cord that goes from the charger to the camera for AC use. So it is [Wall Plug]>>[Battery Charger]>>[Camera Plug]. The battery does not charge while it is in the camera.
The LCD screen on my Nikon Coolpix 5400 is loose. (Yes, this IS a problem). How can I tighten it?
I'm not sure if tightening it will help, but it's worth a try. That is, if there is a way.
Here's a discussion on replacing the LCD screen for the Coolpix 5400:

I wouldn't recommend doing this yourself unless you're good at that kind of stuff. Good luck.
Can the Coolpix 5400 be charged anywhere in the world?
Yes, but the plugs/prongs may be different and the current output from the walls may be different aswell.
In that case, it is always good to research the country in which you will travel to and see what wall plugs you will need to properly fit the cord and charge the camera with. You can buy small add-ons, sort of like an extension cord, to connect between the camera charger and the wall so that everything works okay.

My Nikon Coolpix 5400 says "battery exhausted" so what's wrong?
I already spent $30 on a new battery, nothing changed when I put it in. I tried charging the new battery, but to no avail. My next guess is that I need a new charger. I rarely unplugged my charger, so it could be ruined? I just don't want to spend $20 on a charger if that's not what's wrong. Also, could you recommend a camera that has similar capabilities to my camera, I kinda want another camera anyway. One that doesn't cost major $$! I'm not Mrs. Moneybags! This camera was given to me used by a friend. So cameras under $200 closest to the Nikon coolpix 5400.
Thanks! 10p
ask the people you bought it from. your battery is probably dead.
Can I use the Nikon Coolpix 5400 as a webcam?
I've had a Nikon CoolPix 5400 Digital Camera for a while now. But I haven't really started using it until recently. Unfortunately, I've lost the user's manual. So I can't really refer to it for this question. It has a USB connection cable that came with the camera. I've plugged it into my computer thinking I could use it as a webcam. But I can't figure anything out.
So I've come to Yahoo. Is it possible for me to use this digital camera as a webcam? Or am I screwed and will have to purchase a real webcam?
Thanks a lot, have a great day.
this question is actually asked a lot. I've seen many different answers, but I think the consensus is that you cannot use it as a webcam. I remember somone said that there is a way, but the steps are so complicated that it's easier just to buy a cheap webcam and use that.

can you change the resolution on a nikon coolpix 5400?
Please tell me how!
Sure.
Select any mode other than "Auto."
Press the "Menu" button.
Scroll down to "Image quality/size."
Scroll right and you will see two choices - image quality and image size.
Scroll down to "Image Size," which means resolution.
Scroll right ant you will see the list of available image sizes.
They are named by pixel count in MP's as well as actual pixel dimensions.
Scroll up or down to your new choice.
Scroll right or hit that center button to save your choice.
Press "Menu" to close the menu.
Although you can't make these changes while in the "Auto" mode, they WILL take effect when you are using the Auto mode as well.
Which takes better astrophotos Nikon Coolpix 5000 or Nikon Coolpix 5400?
I know that these are discontinued models. Their main appeal is the "bulb" exposure setting that allows exposures of several minutes duration. Has anyone experience with either or both, especialy with regards to astroimaging and can say which model gives sharper, less noisy images, or other relevant considerations?
The images will most likely be taken thru a driven telescope, but not likely for more than 5 minutes
I am not considering DSLRs right now due to weight and cost considerations. These two models have features that appeal to me, including 3 second self-timers (to eliminate shake after pressing the shutter) which other camera brands such as Olympus don't have, even those with bulb settings (usually they have one or the other -- I need both).
While I like Canon, none of the Powershot series (except for their dSLRs) have the bulb setting for exposures of several minutes duration. Almost all the Canon Powershots have a maximum exposure of 15 seconds. This is why I'm considering the Nikon models.

i have a nikon coolpix camera at home, the problem with it is image sensor failure. can i fix it myself? help
hey.. i have a nikon coolpix 5400 digital camera at home. I did some research and i concluded that the problem is image sensor failure. is there any way to fix the problem without going in to get it fix? help help!!!
Why is my digital camera lens/screen not working?
When I turn it on all i get is black screen. I can put in the memory card with images previously taken and it will still show the image. I can still go through menus and they show on the LCD screen like they normally would. But when I get ready to shoot the screen goes black and it will still take the pic but of course all i get is a black pic. No image. It's a Nikon coolpix 5400. Gift so I got no receipt or warranty on it.
Look on the back of the camera. To the right of the monitor and all the way at the bottom, there is a button with an icon that looks kind of like a TV screen with lines around it. Sort of like this: |O|
That button toggles through the various monitor modes, including turning it on and off when you are in shooting shooting mode. I'm sure that's all it is. The 5400 is a pretty decent camera.
I'm guessing that you are actually getting a picture, but you are just not able to see it on the monitor after you took it unless you are in the viewing mode.
The good news is, you have just discovered the secret to long battery life. If you can live without the monitor, you'll go a long time without draining the battery.
