Is there any fairly easy fix of a Nikon Coolpix 885 digital camera that was left out in the rain?
It works (zooms and flashes) except it cannot see the image - no image appears on the screen and no image can be transferred to the computer. It is just black. I'm hoping, naively, it is one part I can change myself. One last try before I trash it.
Put it in a drybox for a few days. Hopefully it will rid of any water still in the camera.
My friend once dropped his camera, a digital SLR in fact (!!!), in the swimming pool, and after putting it in the drybox for a few days, it was running perfectly again.
Should NIKON COOLPIX 885 Make a noise when on?
I recently bought a used NIKON COOLPIX 885 is it normal to hear a noise when it's running? Thanks
Not if it's just sitting there. If you have VERY sensitive ears, you may hear the extremely high frequency sound given off when the LCD monitor is on, but it's extremely quiet and most people can't hear it. Generally speaking, though, it should be silent, especially if the monitor is dark (off).
Questions about the Nikon COOLPIX 885?
Do all nikon coolpix cameras have the same chargers? and is a compact flash reader what makes you put your pictures onto your computer?
The Coolpix 885 uses the same EN-EL1 battery as MANY other Coolpix cameras and so it uses the same charger.
Yes, a card reader will help you get your pics onto the computer. This is not only faster, but it saves your camera batteries. Your computer or printer may even have a card reader built into it. I have enough USB ports that I just leave it plugged in all the time.
First of all, be sure there are some pictures on the card. Plug the card reader into an open USB port. Plug the card into the appropriate slot on your card reader. I use Photoshop Elements and as soon as I plug my card into the reader, it starts its own card reader and displays a thumbnail of every picture on the card.
If this does not happen automatically, open your photo editing software. Do whatever you usually do to open a file, but click on the selector where you can change drives. Your card reader will be assigned a new drive name that will be one letter higher than you ever saw before, such as "Drive G:" or such. Then, just double click on the name of the file you want to open and it will appear in your photo editor.
