How can I get my Nikon COOLPIX L6 to work as a webcam for skype?

I am replacing a camera and the camera that I am replacing is the Nikon CoolPix L6 with a Nikon CoolPix L12, is this a big difference? And will the owner be staisfied?

There's not a significant difference between the cameras. All you are getting is one megapixel more and image stabilization in the lens, along with one more ISO step. It really wouldn't be that much of an upgrade- the L12 is just the L6 slightly upgraded for a new model year. I've included a side-by-side comparison link in my sources.

I tried connecting the camera to the computer with the USB cord, but the window with the commands for what to do with the pictures didn't pop up.

What's wrong?

What you do is you take the memory card out of your camera, there should be a slot in your computer for the card.
If this doesnt work try connecting it again. If the window doesn't pop up go to your START and click MY COMPUTER. Your camera should show up there. Click on it and then you can upload your pictures from there.

Most all tripods have the same fitting that will screw into the hole on the bottom of your camera. Just buy one that will handle the weight of your camera, not one that is too flimsy.

i have a nikon digital camera and a mac with 10.2 which is running off an external drive cause my internal drive is dead.

Digital cameras are not meant to be webcams and I don't believe that Nikon has made it where you can control this particular camera from a computer. Webcams are very inexpensive nowadays. I can get a decent one for about $30.

Replacing battery door of my Nikon Coolpix L6?

So long story short, I thought my friend was holding onto the camera when I let go- she wasn't. My camera dropped down onto the cement parking lot floor and [luckily] all that happened was the guide for the batter door busted off.
The door still latches shut, it just pops up in a spot since the guide isn't there. Someone told me I could just replace the front end of the camera it would be fixed, but how much exactly would that cost? I've gotten use to having it broken but I have to get it fixed eventually right? I just want to know an average.

I haven't a clue what it could cost to replace the front of the camera but on a hunch I'd say you're looking at between a hundred and two hundred dollars. Camera repair shops are like car dealers, they usually charge about $75 - $100 an hour and this seems like about a one hour job. You then have to add the price of the parts, a new front.

I suppose eventually you do have to get it fixed but do you really? Since you're used to it as it is at the moment maybe you don't have to. Eventually, perhaps in a year or two, you may want to upgrade to a higher resolution and/or more functionality and start thinking about a new camera. If you put that repair cost towards a new camera in a year or two you could afford a lot more camera.

Nothing is forever after all, sooner or later you'll want or need a new one anyway and if the one you have works fine at the moment, it might make more sense to just live with it the way it is.

Sure you can because the software is separate from the camera. The software is loaded on the computer.

nikon coolpix L6 flash problems?

i have a coolpix L6 and it was great the first six months after purchasing it. now, it only flashes when "it feels like it". because of this, my pictures are completley dark at night and a yellow/orange tint in daylight. i hate it! i know the bulb cant be burned out because it will randomnly flash. i have tried every kind of batteries from rechargable, to regular AA's, to lithium. i don't know what to do?? any ideas?

Your camera may be still under warranty, since it was introduced in Aug of '06.

The camera has flash settings of Auto, Fill-in, Red-Eye reduction, Slow, Off. Make sure your camera is set to "Auto" and try again.
