How do I get a picture program for my digital camera (coolpix p5000)?!?
I recieved a coolpix p5000 digital camera for my birthday but it was bought off of ebay from Japan, so the software was unreadable. I tried to register my camera so I could get the program off of the nikon website, but it said the serial number was invalid to North America! So how do I get the program? It would be much apprecitated if someone could help so I could finally manage my pictures
Well I don't know about that but I do know Google has a free one called Picasso. I'm sure it would be compatable w your camera. I use it and it's pretty nice.
How do I get my pictures off my Nikon Coolpix P5000 that are stored on the camera's memory?
I don't have the right plug so I've been taking the SD card out and putting it into another camera that takes a standard USB cable. Unfortunately, for some unknown reason some pictures I just took were stored on the camera's memory and I want to get them off! Is there a way to move them to the memory card? Thanks!!
Most of the time it depends on the camera but most likely there is no way to transfer pictures onto your SD card from your camera. You might want to see if you know anyone with the same kind/brand of camera as you and ask to borrow their cord for an hour or so to take your pictures off.
the SD card memory and your camera memory, are two totally different things.... if you want to view the pics on your camera memory, take the memory card out, and you can view them
if a SD card is in your camera, the cameras memory will be 'invisible'
Set your cam on playback, internal memory pics and look for a "copy" function on the menu.
But, again, I'm not sure, I'm not well versed in Coolpix.
It works on some cameras.
I am on the fence between the Cannon Powershot A640 and the Nikon Coolpix P5000...Which is the better camera?
I have narrowed it down to the two listed above. Would appreciate any help given on which is the better camera in terms of features/resolution/quality, etc...
I happen to own the A630 (which is identical to the A640 except for exterior colour and resolution) so I have a little bit of hands-on feel with it.
For image quality, they essentially tie, both picking up a lot of detail. It may be worth noting that the A640 produces slightly better colour at ISO 800, albeit, it's unlikely you'll use such high ISO. And also, the P5000 does not produce sharp, or 'punchy' photos with its default settings, so you may need to turn up the sharpening slightly; not that it doesn't pick up the details, just that it has very hands-off approach to sharpening and saturation.
For the bodies, the P5000 dominates. It has a large portion of the body made of metal. It feels very solid. As for the A640, it's made fully out of plastic, which of course, doesn't inspire confidence. Even though the fit and finish isn't bad, it does have creaks and rattles in use. Oh yes, the tilting screen. Of course the tilting screen is useful for certain situations, which is what I thought. I have yet to come across a situation in which I would like the screen to tilt. Of course, it's always there when you need it. Although I have to say it's not needed 95% of the time. I ought to mention that the P5000 has a command dial, which really helps to speed up navigating through the menus, which are very well designed. I hate using the menus on any Canon camera, they're simple, but they look hideous, and their naming system isn't always so intuitive. Such as their Tv, or Av for Shutter or Aperture priority, I don't even remember. The P5000 has a flash hot shoe, which I would enjoy. The funny thing is that the speedlight would probably exceed the camera itself in size. However, I find it useful that you can attach a speedlight for added power, and flexibility for bounce flash. I love using bounce flash. However, it's up to you to decide if that's a plus for purchasing the P5000. On the sidenote, if you decide to purchase a Nikon speedlight, you'll have to use that speedlight on Nikon cameras only, you won't be able to use it on any other cameras.
That aside, the P5000 is a real slugger. It's really slow in performance, which I found ironic because this camera is designed for pros looking for a compact camera, and pros are used to using DSLRs. I must add that the A640 is no speedster, but I believe it's faster than the P5000. I usually use a DSLR, so all compacts feel sluggish to me.
Both of the cameras allow for full manual, and semi-automatic modes, which is nice if you want to learn photography. But the P5000 would be better at that because it includes a command dial, making it feel more like a DSLR, but that's just my opinion. On the A640, you use the sluggish four-way controller to adjust the shutter speed 'n aperture. The A640 doesn't show you a light meter on-screen, which annoyed me, but I don't know if the P5000 has it either.
In conclusion, it depends on what you want, A640 has same image quality, faster speed, and tiltable screen. The P5000 offers a magnesium allow body, a flash hot shoe, command dial, and better user interface.
By the way, don't trust Cnet reviews on digital cameras, they're biased against Nikon, often times, without good reason, and strongly biased towards Canon and Sony. Their information is also inaccurate, I once made a purchase thinking that my camera would have a panoramic scene mode, to my surprise, it didn't. I would read both reviews of the cameras on dpreview.com since its information is accurate, and they test every possible aspect of a camera.
I read bad reviews on the 5000
go to cnet.com and read about it
The Nikon P5000 is about the same in look and feel, but it's images are much better. The P5000 can also hold the new flash unit.
I can't get movies from my Nikon Coolpix P5000.?
I have a Nikon Coolpix P5000. I have downloaded the software, but for the life of me I can't get the movies to download. The computer doesn't even recognise them. I can play them back on the camera with no problems.
Can I take the memory card to a photo shop to extract?
It's getting very frustrating, because I can't format my card.
Call me stupid, but I'm still a bit confused. I'm running Windows XP. I usually view my photos in My Pictures. I don't really use Picture Project.
If possible can you tell me step by step or direct me to somewhere I can learn.
you need a card reader.
You are used to letting some software do the work of downloading your images and most of the time it works ... but only for still image files.
You will have to use your computer skills to copy the video flies from your camera (memory card) to your computer using your computer skills
which camera is better. nikon coolpix p5000 or nikon coolpix p6000?
i wont be making huge prints, but i like the most beautiful image quality possible.
Is There a way to charge my Nikon CoolPix P5000 Camera without using the actual charger, it broke & i cant ?
afford a new one. & i need it for work
Did you run over your charger? They are really rather sturdy.
If you need it for work, you really need to come up with the $25 or so for the Nikon MH-61 Battery Charger for the EN-EL5 Rechargeable Battery.and buy a new one.
Besides charging your Li-ion battery, Nikon's chargers condition the battery, prevent overheating and provide the only safe way to charge your battery
Just skip a couple of lunches next week and you will have the money.

where can I find good prices on lenses for a nikon coolpix p5000?
B & H Photo. A gaint mail order house and store in New York City. You pay shipping but there is no sales tax for deliveries out of State.
Phone (800) 947-9980
Our Camera Club members use it eventhough some members work at local (Chicago) Camera Shops.
Even with our employee discounts, B & H is cheaper.
Im interested in buying the Nikon Coolpix P5000.?
Its a 10.1 megapixel and some people think that is too many. I was wondering if anyone has that camera. If so what do you think about it?
I do not own a P5000, but if you put that camera next to my Coolpix 5400, you would have a hard time telling them apart.
"They" say that anything over about 6-7 MP exceeds the ability of a point and shoot lens to resolve the image. I do not know whether this is really true or not. I recently purchased a Canon SD900, which is apocket-sized 10 MP P&S camera, and I am thrilled with the image quality.
The only "disadvantage" might be that you end up with a lot of huge files that take storage space, but buy a 1 GB or 2 GB memory card and that will not be a problem. To me, there are so many advantages to having 10 million pixels to work with in image editting, I really don't see a down side.
which camera is better? nikon coolpix p5000 or canon g7?
they are both good and both have the same sensor. The Nikon is about $130 less, if that makes a difference. The Canon gives you more zooom with a 6x lens 35-210mm, more manual modes, a threaded lens to add filters or accessories, and is noticeably bigger.
so, the G7 is a bit more camera- but it's also a bit more money and bigger.
So- the question is, which camera is better for YOU?
