What kind of memory card is required for the Nikon Coolpix P5100?

whats a good a one

Any mainstream SD memory card. San Disk, Lexar, Kingston, pqi, A-Data are but a few.

Although buy them at a real store ... avoid the Internet for now ... at least until they are able to rid it from the fake cards.

It uses an SD card. Any name brand card will do fine, just DO NOT buy one from ebay, as there are lots of poor quality fake cards in circulation. Get a 2gig Sandisk or Lexar at your local camera store.

steve

you'll need a SD card. Any brand works. They all do the same thing, store pictures. And also depending on how many mega pixels the camera is will help you determine with size memory card you'll need. It being a 12.1 MP going with a 2G card (will get you about 200 picture probably more).

Is the Quality of the Nikon Coolpix P5100 good?

Tell me your favorite modes, like and dislikes
XD thank you

This is a good little camera .. it has a much larger sensor than most P&S cameras as well as a good pixel count It has a slightly longer optical zoom than most as well. AND is uses the state of the art Li-ion battery.

which one is better, nikon coolpix p5100 or canon powershot a630

i am planning to buy a digital camera, and i am choosing between nikon coolpix p5100 and canon powershot a630. i am having a hard time deciding which one to buy. which one is better? do you recommend something else? thanx :D

the canon has better quality pictures

I just bought a Nikon Coolpix p5100...Is it a good camera?

of course it does take black and white pix.

It is a very good camera. Among all the point and shoots, it's got to be among the top five right now.

IF IT DOESN'T TAKE BLACK AND WHITE PIX .IT IS BAD!!

is the Nikon Coolpix P5100 good for taking high-quality photos?

I really don't know but can you give a description of this camera as well preferably from a website where one could buy the camera.

I am interested to know some answers from other people as well.

yes, it is a good camera to try.

Yes, it is.
Just 3.5x optical zoom.
Should need some else with a higher optical zoom.
Or should use the lens converter for more tele. zoom.
Good night!

The P5100 is a decent point and shoot camera, but when you say "high quality photos," I think you might be disappointed. If you are trying to compare this to a digital SLR, you will not be happy. If you are comparing it to any number of lesser point and shoot cameras, it will do pretty well. If you factor in the cost, it's one of the best available for the money.

Go here and look at some samples and see if they meet your standards. Click on the little images in the bar across the top and you will see a larger view. Click on the file name under the larger image and you will see the full file. They look pretty good to me.

Also, 23 users rate image quality 4.72 out of 5.0 stars here:

It's probably fair to compare the P5100 to the Canon A650-IS. The review uses the G9 as a comparison, but that costs $200 more. Anyhow, it looks like the P5100 comes out a bit better in user opinions.

Nikon Coolpix P5100?

hi.im an amateur photographer im looking for a new camera. I'm contemplating getting a coolpix p5100 for £170 at amazon. i think its 12.1 mexapixels and 3.5 zoom. can anyone tell me if they've found any faults with theirs or some info on the quality of the pictures etc? thanks :)

There shouldn't be a problem with the photos - given you read the manual for the best results. Only problem is if you dropped it or it gets some moisture and you turn it on without completely drying it, it'll make for a nice display or paper weight.

Okay. Nikon Coolpix P5100 or Fujifilm F50fd?! Help!!?

I'm veryveryvery picky with my cameras. I'm finally getting one after a while and I love these two cameras. But I can't figure out if the Nikon Coolpix P5100 takes video or not ? o_0
And if it does, I loooove the photo quality, but I heard it's kinda slow and the battery life isn't all that great.
But anyways, I need one that takes amaaazing photos like that, but also can take video. So if you have another camera in mind, lemme know also.
here's some sample photos of the Nikon i found..

http://www.trendycams.com/samples/Nikon_Coolpix_P5100_Digital_Camera.aspx

These are the types of good quality photos I wanna take.
And the camera must be compact. The huge reason I'm getting this is because I need one I can easily carry around lol. So please don't suggest any SLRs 'er anything.

>< Help this wee indecisive photographer!! </3

In this comparison, the Nikon has some important features that the Fujifilm doesn't.

Nikon +
* A slightly longer optical zoom (forget and digital listings ... smoke and mirrors)
* A viewfinder AND IS (used in combination, you can shoot in low light without much camera movement)
* Closer focus in the "macro" mode
* Better flash output
* Hot shoe for mounting an external flash (the sure way to avoid redeye)
* Manual focus.
* Built-in panoramic 16:9 image ratio
* Slightly better video options than the Fujifilm (640 x 480, 30 fps, 320 x 240 15 fps, 160 x 120, 15 fps)

Common features:

* Both use state of the art Li-ion batteries (they hold their charge longer than other type batteries and can last up to 5 years)
* Larger sensors than most P&S cameras (and the same pixel counts)
* Use the industry standard SD memory card.

NOTE: When using any digital camera, using any rechargeable battery, energy management is the key to battery life:
* turn off the camera as soon as your are finished shooting
* use the viewfinder rather than the LCD
* avoid showing off your photos using the LCD

In order of power usage: LCD, Flash, Zooming, Auto-focus and shooting video (varies based upon the length of the video recorded.)

PS: Those are some nice examples of shots from the Nikon. Did you find any from the Fujifilm?

Help Nikon CoolPix P5100!!!?

I bought a Nikon CoolPix P5100 a few months ago, i love the camera, but i now have a message coming up saying lens error...I have no idea what happened, and no idea hwo to fix it. The lens just won't come out, I have tried re setting it but that didnt seem to work either, I took the battery out for a few days also but it did nothing. HELP!!! I really don't want to have to get it replaced because it was a lot of money. If there is a way to fix it without having to send it to the manufacturer PLEASE let me know!!! Thanks

If you have a air blower (the one that clean the computer keyboards), you may want to try it. blow the air into the extension lens and clean off. If you can't find one, just used the traditional air squeezer to clean it up.

If not, then it probably means the lens extension "spring" was not working. It happened to mine and I was under the local store warranty and replaced it. I remembered that before the spring not working was before the beach party.

Which would you recommend? The Canon Powershot G9 or Nikon Coolpix P5100?

I'm looking for a compact that I can carry around all the time (instead of my dslr kit). Whilst I love my dslr I want a camera that has more spotinaeity but has more features than a standard point and shoot compact. any advice?

the g9 is a much better camera
