How do you adjust the aperture on a Nikon Coolpix P60?

I want to adjust the aperture on my new Nikon Coolpix P60. I've read the manual and in Manual mode I'm able to switch between F3.6 and F8.5, but that can't be the only two stops I can use, can it? Am I missing something? I really love macro shots and I want to be able to mess with the depth of field... Thanks for the help.

My guess is thats probably it. The coolpix doesnt have many manual options.

Can a Nikon Coolpix P60 (or P50) use filters?

I know certain compact cameras have rings on them to attach a filter holder. I was wondering if this is the case for the new Nikon CoolPix P60? The P50 has the same type of body if that helps since the P60 isn't released yet.

Look here for the full info on the P50

Call Nikon USA's free live tech help line, (800) NIKON-UX (which is open all the time, 24/7/365) and ask them which Coolpix cameras do accept filters

No, the camera lens does not have an accessory lens / filter mount.

Does anyone own the nikon coolpix p60?

I'm looking at buying the Nikon Coolpix P60 and am wondering what personal experiences people have had with it. Image quality is very important to me. I'm wanting a portable backup to an SLR that I can throw in my purse. Would love to hear what other people thought of the camera!

If you are an DSLR user I Think The P5100 will give you more control than the P60

the P5100 http://astore.amazon.com/azq80-20/detail/B000VKSRV8also have Hot-shoe for external flash that compattible with most nikon flash model.

Trouble with Nikon Coolpix P60 Manual Mode?

When i try to take pictures without the flash on manual mode, the images always turn out black, with only the most intense of light showing in one spot. i really want to use manual mode because of the high shutter speed settings i can get from it, only i dont want that stupid flash, has anyone figured this out? no im not an idiot, ive read the manual, ive changed settings for the past three days ive had it trying to figure it out, and still nothing.

i DONT want some lame link to a nikon help site, or a p60 manual. ive LOOKED myself, thankyou. i want a personal opinion or advice.
screwdriver:

I am not cranking the shutter speed faster and faster, if i had taken a first image and it was bright enough, while the others got darker and darker i think id be able to figure out NOT to do that. this is every single image i take. The iso ive cranked upto 2000 in broad daylight, the images are viewable but the noise is ridiculous, ive tried on lower settings. i have the shutter speed set as high as itll go: 1/1200, and even with it at a lower setting, 1/30 for example, which is what the automated setting is in other preset picture taking options, its still just as dark. ive played with the aperture, with no luck. ill fiddle around with it more i suppose, maybe i need that one perfect combination of settings. also, id like to add that all other preset or automated image taking options do just fine in the light im trying to take pics in with manual mode.

The sensor needs a fixed amount of light to render an image properly, not too much and certainly not too little. Like Goldilocks porridge one setting will be 'just right'.

There are three controls for this, one is the aperture which regulates the amount light reaching the sensor and the other is shutter speed (how long that regulated light gets to activate the sensor). The third is ISO which is how sensitive the camera is to light, the higher the number the more sensitive the camera is, but at the expense of noise.

At any aperture there is only one shutter speed which will be correct. You cant just go on cranking the shutter speed faster and faster, the picture will just get darker and darker till you get to the point that the sensor doesn't record anything at all which is what you are doing.

Nikon Coolpix P60: is macro photography possible?

I've recently become very interested in photography, especially macro photography. I've done a little research and it seems like people say most good macro photography requires macro lenses, extension tubes, etc. I just bought a Nikon Coolpix P60 because I really wanted a better camera and was too short on money to go very far above what I already had. It's way better than what I had before, but it seems like taking good quality up-close pictures is practically impossible. Does anyone know any way to do macro photography with a digital camera like mine, or anything I could get to help (besides a whole new camera, which is completely out of the question right now)? Thank you!

If you will READ & STUDY the Owner's Manual for your camera you'll discover that in Macro Close Up Mode it can focus as close as 4 inches. That should be close enough for you.

Does anyone have the Nikon coolpix P60? (its a camera)?

Do you like it? is it a good camera? Does it work well? Is it worth the money?

NIkon Coolpix P60 vs. GE A730?

Which camera is better? I definitely think that the P60 is better, but the GE is much cheaper. Is the Nikon worth the like $100 difference?
I know the Nikon is a better camera, but is it worth the $100 difference?

nikon is a better camera

I have a question about digital cameras?

Okay, Ive been wondering and thinhking and looking.
Can anyone describe the nikon coolpix p60 and the canon powershot a590 is, their pro's and con's. And I would like to know which one would be a better camera for taking all kinds of pictures. And also about how much their memory cards cost and the best store to buy them.

nikon:
pro-
*cheaper
*lighter
*portable
cons-
*bad customer service
*bad image quality
*bad colors
*doesn't always focus right

Cannon
pro-
*great color
*great images
*great portraits
*automatic and manual settings
con-
*portability
*size

id go with the cannon

now memory cards
if you like to keep you memory card clean,
and always put it on your computer after you take pictures
i would go with a normal 1 gig
you can buy them at fry's(if you live in America)
if you like keeping pictures
or sometimes forget to delete them
i would get a 2 gig memory card

What's a digital camera import model difference?

I'm looking at a Nikon Coolpix p60 at amazon.com and you can buy it for 199 by itself or 199 to 224 with different kits (memory card, case, tripod, lens cleaning kit, all kinds of stuff). I think the kits have import models, and I know that an import model dSLR doesn't come with it's battery pack, so anyone know what if anything is the difference in the import kit or the regular camera?

Imported, or grey market, cameras should come with the battery. There are some differences when you buy grey market cameras, mainly:

- No warranty if the warranty is region-specific. If the reseller is nice he might throw a 3rd party plan in for free, or he might be nasty and push you to buy one. If the camera includes an international warranty it's usually kept with the camera.
- Charger may not be compatable with your country's standards
- Default camera language may be set to a different one
- Manuals/CD may be in a different language
