Does Nikon Coolpix S10 support Digital Zoom ?

Recently I bought Nikon S10. I have gone through its user manual & it DOES specify about its Digital zoom feature. The problem is: When I press Zoom button, the zoom does not get converted into Digital zoom once it has completely done with the Optical zoom. Like any other Nikon camera, my camera also has a Zoom BAR on its display screen which is 75-25 % divided. 75% shows Optical zoom limit & 25% represents Digital zoom. My camera’s zoom bar stretch never enters Digital zoom area..
So you think I have got nay faulty piece?
One of my friend has Nikon coolpix L1 but his digicam also does not show Digital zoom in spite if user manual’s specification.

Unfortunately it does (4x). Someday camera makers will stop with the idiotic digital zoom stuff and let the user do all the cropping in the software that comes with the camera.

I just checked my Nikon Coolpix SQ and it does have a little bar on the W / T bar. When you are zooming out it should stop when it reaches the end of the optical zoom range, then while continuing to hold the "T" button down, it will continue moving and the white bar turns yellow on the SQ, so accidental activating the digital zoom can be avoided

Hi,

I Recently got coolpix s10 camera from gray market. The user manaul which i got was a xerox copy of original which is not at all usable.

I tried downloading the manaul from nikon support website but it does not allow me to download as my cameras serial number is not registered with the company.

Can anyone please mail me or provide me url from where to download it.

i'm intersted in buying this camera but before that I'd like to know the good and bad things about it ?

The S10 has a good range of ISO settings, and noise control is exceptionally good. Even at the maximum 800 ISO image noise and colour distortion are kept to an acceptable minimum, producing usable shots even at this setting. The only real problem with image quality is the amount of compression. The image files are about 2/3rds the size of those produced by most 6MP cameras, and some images have heavy artefacting as a result.
Good value for money, and has a good feel to it too

I'm considering buying one of these cameras and I'm wondering which is better....... I'm buying them because of the zoom. I fyou have any other suggestions, I woulod appreciate it.... just please make sure they have a lot of zoom. Thanks ahead of time!

I don't have hands-on experience with any of these cameras, but here are some links to a total of 91 people who do.

Check out this comparison page. Click on "In-depth review" and "Read Owner Opinions" for each camera. Be sure to note that the reviews are many pages long so you don't stop after page one. Check the sample images, also. You can enlarge these to full size images if you click on the file name shown below the picture. You will have to then put your cursor in the white space to the right of the picture and click once. After that, you can pass your cursor over the image and it will turn into a magnifier. Click it as a magnifier once and the image will go to full size and you can really examine the detail or look for artifacts like purple fringing around items in high contrast photos or noise in darker areas of the picture.

The review says (to me) to avoid the TZ1, because it has problems with digital noise at ALL ISO settings. This is inexcuseable. The TZ3 was not so thrilling, either. Neither was the S10. You will have to read the reviews and see what you think. Maybe style is more important than image quality.

I included the Canon Powershot S3-IS, just because it looks like a camera you might be interested in with your desire for a long lens. It's not as small, by any means, but the performance seems to be a lot better. My daughter has had her S2-IS for over a year now and it's been a very nice camera. The S3 is better.

ok im planning to buy the nikon coolpix 6.0 mp camera and i tried googling reviews, but im getting different reviews everywhere
im not sure whether to buy it or not

ive read the quality is really good, but is it really with only 6.0megapixels? any one know? because the camera i have now is 7.1megapixels

also, does any1 know if there is a camera similar to this design?

I am a little disappointed in the Nikon Coolpix S10 I received this week, and I have tested it a bit. I have an older Coolpix 4500 and I find it much more professional in its options. The S10 has a fixed f3.5 lens as I understand it which is somewhat limited. It has a very cheap feeling to it, as it’s mostly plastic, and it is a bit overpriced at the present store price. I got it for the X10 zoom and the Vibration Reduction but it is missing many other features that the older 4500 has. I wish I would have gone up to the D 50 or D75 or so
