I'm considering returning the camera I just bought and getting a camera with longer exposures (my current camera only does 15 seconds) because I really love to take long exposure pictures.

I couldn't find the answer to that question anywhere, even on their official web page. Why are you asking about that specific camera?

Go with the Nikon S600. It features vibration reduction that works better than the rest (in my opinion). Also, the Nikon colours are vibrant, yet realistic. Canon can be a little faded occasionally and the Sony varies a lot.

Also, the Nikon S600 carries a 2 year warranty. I should also mention that Canon had problems with stuck lenses. This appears to have been corrected a year ago, but its still a little weary.

Not to mention that the Nikon (and Canon) take standard SD cards. That way you're not paying a premium for the Sony Memory Stick and your SD card is compatible almost anywhere you can imagine.

FYI: The previous white balance problems with the Nikons (Mixed Fluorescent Lighting) has been corrected in this model.

is nikon coolpix s610 better than nikon coolpix s600?

my dad bought me a nikon coolpix s610 recently but i didn't open it yet just in case there was another camera that is better. at the store the nikon s610 worked really well and i really liked it...but the reviews for ir were not amazing. i need to know if the s600 is better or not because i don't want to have the s610 if it works the same way for a higher price.

According to the specification, S610 and S600 are pretty much the same except S610 has a bigger LCD.

i'm getting a new camera and i can't decide between the two. which one would you rather have? which one works better? i'll be taking pictures with friends and of sports,so i want it to be fast. i'll also be taking a lot of pictures in low light. thanks!

You will see that some features of each camera are the same and others like optical zoom (Nikon has the best), viewfinder (Canon wins this one -- imparitive when shooting in low light), IS (both have this), high ISO (Nikon as one stop more), LCD size (Nikon's is slightly larger) and Li-ion state of the art batteries (both have this feature)

So what to do?

Take a SD memory card with you to a store that sells both and take some photos with both cameras .. see which feels the best in your hands and is easiest for you to use. Then take the SD card home with you and look at the photos on your computer and see which camera performs the best.

Make sure both cameras are set for their highest resolution, balanced for the lighting conditions in the store (flourscent or flash if you use it).

Between ease of use and quality of the images, you will have your "real" answer.

Just remember that P&S cameras use very small sensors and shoot mostly in an "automatic" mode.
