does the nikon D1H and D1 have the same body/frame?

Yes, they both have the same great magnesium framed body.

i have a nikon d1x and d1h....print size?

a relative gave me both of these cameras as a gift and i was wondering what is the MAX print size i can make with the d1x (5.3 megapixels i think) and the d1h(2.7 mega pixels)
i fell that the d1x will be able to produce a decent size print but i am not to sure about the d1h...

will the d1h be good enough for my college photojournalism class?

thank you in advance for the help

The will be just fine for your class.

The largest prints we made for newspapers were 5x7 inch. Your Nikon's can print up to 11x14 easily.

The first Kodak DSLR's had 2 mp sensors and no one complained.

The increased speed which images could be transmitted to the photo editor at the paper was what counted. Processing a roll of film with a quick wash and using alcohol to "dry" it and then printing it "wet", drying the print with a hair dryer before panafaxing it to the paper was it strong point. Besides, shooting using Tri-X at 1200 ASA produced images about on par with the 2 mp sensors of the time

what do photographers rate the most ? the fuji S3 or the nikon D1H or D2H?

Of the three choices above, the Nikon D2H by a long country mile. That's a real no-nonsense piece of machinery, solid as a rock and performs every bit like the pro-level camera that it is! I drool at the thought of this camera!

It really depends upon what you are shooting. For sports, the D2H is the second generation of the D1H. The S3 is a fine camera and has a unique sensor array. Where if falls down as a prime choice for a sports shooter is its slow continuous exposure mode. Probably the largest problem is the power source. 4 x AA batteries (2300 mAh NiMH) ... No Lithium-Ion battery until the S5 version.

If you are shooting almost any other subject maybe the D200 would be the best choice. It has a 10 megapixel sensor and can shoot continuous exposures (5 fps up to 40 frames) that surpasses the S3 (2.5 fps).

How big of a print can you make with a 1 MB file?

I shoot with a D1H and have printed 8x10's and they look fine, but I was wondering how big I could go with it still looking decent.....Thanks

I think if you shoot an image with your D1H and then open one of the files you can find the "native" resolution stated somewhere. I shot on Sunday and my files are around 2.5MB and the native size of the shot is about 8.5 x 13 at 300DPI. I have been able to get great images up to 16x20 using images this size. Based on that I would guess that you could print images at least 11 x 14 without any artifacts showing up.

Just have your lab make an 8x10 print out of a cropped part of your image. That should show you a lot.

How big is the 1MB file though? Well technically, 3MP gives a decent print at 8x10 as long as the camera is good - like your D1H.
A 6MP photo from a D70 looks good at the huge size of 20x24 and most probably even larger.
