My wife drove me up to see a hand specialist this afternoon. I've got something else on my body that's failing, and this appointment was set up long before my left knee went all to hell. On the way back I was playing with the E-1 at the shotgun position the way a five-year-old plays with a favorite toy so he'll keep quiet while the grownups drive. Taken through a very dirty front windshield.
The bottom one was taken from the passenger side earlier in the day. I just like the little bit of chrome and white lettering against the broad grays and blacks.
Nothing fancy. Just black and white with with the KT E-1 and the Sigma 30mm. Post processed in Lighroom 3.6 and Special Efex Pro 2.0.1.

While the left knee is showing signs of progress, it's still no where near normal. And so my wife suggested we go out and get something to eat and take back home rather than have me out cooking over the grill. I love to cook, especially over the grill, but I didn't look forward to standing next to it on crutches. So we drove down to one of our favorites, Chipotle, and ordered our regular burrito bowls to go.
Even though it's still fairly early in the evening the local Chipotle's shares the store frontage and the parking lot with a fairly large World of Beer. I'm not too crazy about that place due to its traffic and patrons swarming over the place once WoB opens. Tonight it was oddly low key with a light crowd and there were multiple empty parking slots open right at the door, and both handicapped parking spots were empty. More often than not I'll drive past them and they'll have drinking patrons parked in both without any handicap tag or hanger showing. It's an accident that both handicap parking slots wound up in front of WoB. When that storefront was first completed it stayed empty for a long time before WoB moved in.
Technical
Out and about with the KT E-1 and the Sigma 30mm. I'd adjusted the saturation level to CS0 (Lo) when I read it was the setting for 'normal' color. I'll run with that a while. I also ran the ISO up to 200 just to see how it behaved in low light. I ran the camera again in full manual, at f/1.8 and 1/30s. Post processing was in Lightroom 3.5 and Silver Efex Pro 2.0.1.
Milestone
This marks my 365th entry for 2011. It's also my 1,059 overall post; I passed 1,000 a while back and didn't slow down. I had started posting this year with the idea of doing a post a day along with shooting a photo a day. The photo-a-day has gone to shooting when I feel like it, which is mostly every day but may have gaps of several days in between photographs.
The post-a-day has been a lot stranger. If I were actually posting just once/day my posts would like up nicely with the days/month, but they don't. Some days I would post twice or three times, depending on what was on my mind. Other times I would go for several days without posting anything. But the extra posts/day overwhelmed the gaps so that on this date I've posted a years worth of posts. Even if I were to just post once/day from here on out, there's still enough days left in 2011 that I would post at least 400 for a year.
I have discovered I like to write. Sometimes it's tough, and I'm sure there's a lot I've written this year that's sub-par. There's no improvement without practice. And I need to do something creative. I refuse to sit around just watching TV or surfing the web. I do a bit of that to be sure, but I need to be doing something active and creative, not just being a passive consumer. Unless something drastic happens I intend to keep this pace up through 2012.
2012 is a presidential election year. For 2012 I want to do more journalism, work at adding more polish to my writing, and do more traveling away from the house around central Florida and beyond. I want do more experimentation with the cameras. Yes, more photo experimenting. For inspiration I'm looking to photographs like these over on The Online Photographer as well as the list of photography blogs on the right. There is such a constant tidal wave of creativity ongoing out there.

If I recieve my associates degree then enter the Marine Corps, will I enter as E-1 or a higher rank?
I am a freshman in a community college who wants to recieve an associates degree before entering the Marine Corps, which has always been a dream of mine. With an associates degree, will I enter at the paygrade of E-1 or will I enter at a higher paygrade?
The marines are least generous with giving advanced rank to enlistees with college credits. The maximum rank you will receive is E-2 (PFC). The other branches of the military go higher (Army: E-4, USAF: E-3, USCG: E-3, USN: E-3). Of course, there are other factors in addition to college credits, but since you're asking about the marines, I won't go into them.
If you go to OCS you can be an Officer, if you don't you'll be enlisted (E-1 and up)

How to fix MP160 Error message E 1 5 when I refill cartridges.?
I tried to refill the black cartridge, but then it started flashing E 1 5, and saying it couldn't reognise the cartridges. Nor the black nor the colored.

Basically you need to take the cartridges out and put them back in again.
How much would an E-1 or an E-2 get paid being deployed overseas?
Im in the ARNG as Interior Electrician and just curious what id make if i did get deployed, im an E-1 and have not been to basic yet so i dont know how quick id rank before i got deployed or when i got done with basic and ait.
Can you be a medical corps as an E-1 just entering the navy?
I recently spoke with a recruiter and i am really interested in enrolling in the navy. I graduate in may. However im just trying to find a career path in the navy that really evolves around something i want to do when i retire from the navy. I am really interested in the medical field and the legal field. Im just wondering as an E-1 just entering the navy would i be able to be a part of the medical corps?
As an enlisted member of the Navy you cannot be a member of the Medical Corps.
In the military in the US the Medical Corps is for physicians only. The Navy Medical Department is made up of many Corps including the Dental Corps, the Medical Corps the Nurse Corps. You are probably looking at being a Hospital Corpsman or Dental Technician. There are several subspecialties which fall under the Hospital Corps. Se your recruiter for more information.

As for getting stuff from just x(t). You really have two parametric equations ( I am taking e_1 and e_2 to be vectors defining a two dimensional, orthogonal coordinate system). These are:
In e_1 direction: x1 = x_1(t)
In e_2 direction: x2 = x_2(t)
And the two axes are x1 (unit vector e_1) and x2 (unit vector e_2).

If you go into the army as an e-1 and you attend online college while your in it, can you switch to officer?
After you complete college or receive one of your degrees, can you re-enlist as an officer instead of an e-1? And when I say re-enlist I don't mean finish up your term and then sign up as an officer. I mean just switch from an e-1 to an officer instead.

How hard is it to get into OCS once your in as e-1?
If you are still an E-1 by the time you finish 60 or 90 credits, you have no business being an officer. You should be an E-2 in 6 months, E-3 in 1 year, and E-4 in 2 years.
Seriously, though; once you finish your 90 credits, talk to your Platoon Leader or Company Commander and they will be more than happy to help you apply for OCS.
You don't go straight from enlisted to officer, you have to go through Officer Candidate School, then you get promoted to O-1.
You also need to look into the Green-to-Gold program.
how does the promotion process work in the army? Meaning from E-1?
I have heard that all recruits come in as e-1. then after a certain time everyone goes to the next step and so on to e-6? how much of this is true and what is the correct time for promotion?
Promotion from E-1 through E-4 is pretty much a given. The command themselves make the call. As long as you haven't gotten into some kind of trouble and you perform your job, you get promoted pretty much automatically as soon as you meet time in service/time in grade requirements. Most soldiers will reach E-4 by the time they have 2 years in service.
For E-5 and E-6, it is based on a point system. The unit has some say in who gets promoted but ultimately the decision is made by DA. With each MOS, there are a certain number of slots available for E-5's and E-6's. Each MOS promotes when slots become available. The monthly points set for each MOS are determined by the number of slots available. The higher the points, the less slots are open. Points are awarded for awards, PT scores, military education, civilian education, duty performance and military training. When you make "points", your command can send you to the promotion board where you will present yourself in front of 3-5 officers or Sr. Nco's. in full uniform, perform some drill and ceremony stuff, and they will all ask you questions which you are graded on. You'll be given study material way in advance. Based on your performance, the board members vote on whether or not to recommend you for promotion and DA makes the final decision. Some commands will send soldier to the board prior to making points, so even if they pass the board, they have to wait until they have enough points before they are eligible for promotion, or if they have enough points, sometimes have to wait until a slot opens.
For E7-E9, the unit has no say at all in who gets promoted. A 5 member board meets once a year to review a soldier's military record. You never meet them face to face. The boards are conducted at the Army Personnel Headquarters.
Each year, the Army decides how many soldiers within each MOS it plans to promote to the ranks of E-7, E-8, and E-9. The board reviews the files of every eligible soldier (based on time in grade/time in service) and chooses from those files whom they feel is best suited to fill the open slots in each MOS. Of those selected, they are given a sequence number and promotions are given throughout the year based on the sequence number.
Here are the averages for promotion times, although some get promoted faster, some slower -- some MOS's promote much slower than others.
Private (E-2) - 6 months
Private First Class (E-3) - 1 year
Specialist/Corporal (E-4) - 18 months
Sergeant (E-5) - 4.2 years
Staff Sergeant (E-6) - 8.5 years
