How do I do sound videos on my olympus sp 550 uz camera?

I can do videos... Just not with sound... You're supposed to be able to have sound.
no there isn't sound on either one. there's supposed to be sound though!

Is there sound when you play videos back on the camera? What about the computer?

Follow-up:
If you have the latest Quicktime media player on your computer then that can mean one two things: the microphone is no longer working or the the microphone has been muted.

To make sure the microphone is not muted set the camera to a camera mode (anything but playback) enter the camera setup by pressing the "Menu" button. Select "Camera Menu" and press the "OK/FUNC" button. Scroll all the way down to the 6th page and select the option with a little microphone icon and "(movies)" next to it. Press "OK/FUNC" to customize that setting and make sure it's "ON." The factory setting is "OFF" by default.

Note the following details outlined on page 12 of the manual:
• When (movies) is set to [ON], audio is recorded with the movie.
• When (movies) is set to [ON], optical zoom cannot be used during the shooting.
• To zoom in when (movies) is set to [ON], set [DIGITAL ZOOM] to [ON].

And on page 31:
• If the camera is more than 1 m (3.3 ft.) away from the source of the sound, sound may not be recorded clearly.
• When (movies) is set to [ON], [IMAGE STABILIZER] is not available.
• If [FULLTIME AF] is set to [ON] when (movies) is set to [ON], the sound of operating lens may be recorded.

Try taking a quick movie again. If you still don't hear any sound on playback on neither the camera nor your computer then it may be necessary to contact Olympus Customer Service.

is olympus sp-550 uz an SLR camera?

i'm pretty new to real photography and i've just purchased an olympus sp-550 uz. i was wondering is it an SLR camera and if not, what are the differences between them?
also, does anyone if the lens is detachable and replaceable?
i've been trying to read up on the net about it but i get so confused!
thanks in advance

It is not an SLR, but not because of the interchangeable lens thing. SLR refers to Single Lens Reflex.

The SP-550 is a single lens camera; the lens for composing the image is the same lens used to take the photo. However, it does not have a reflex mirror system that swings out of the way when the photo is taken.

So, it's not an SLR.

The lens is not user detachable or replaceable. There are probably screw on filters that will add some magnification or make the lens look wider, but that's not the same thing as having interchangeable lenses.

It is not a DSLR. The lens is not removable.

A DSLR has interchangeable lenses and you look directly through the lens when composing your pictures.

IMO you would do just fine with the Olympus SP-550 UZ.

No, it is not an SLR, you cannot detach or substitute lenses.

no, it's not.
the lens doesn't come off. so it's not a SLR.
SLR camera has lens that come off and can be replaced with other lens. SLR also has a mirror inside.

it's not a DSLR

DSLRs let you look through the lense via a prism and mirror to see what the actual lens sees

DSLRs save in raw file format as well as compressed

DSLRs have interchangable leneses of higher optical quality

DSLRs have 36 bit color instead of 24 bit color

DSLRS have bigger CMOS or CDS chips

Olympus SP-550 UZ vs. Canon S5IS vs. Panasonic DMC-FZ50?

WHICH ONE:-HAS THE BEST OPTICS
-MAKES BEST PHOTOS
-YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE OR YOU
ALREADY OWN ONE

the canon would be the only choice

I'd toss a coin between the Olympus and the Canon. I won't care which one I get between these two. The Panasonic camera seems bulky to me.

The SP-550 and S5IS both have image stabilization and an ultra long telephoto zoom. The image quality are pretty comparable between the two. I like the fact that the Olympus has a wide zoom (28mm) and a longer zoom range.

This camera is coming out in a few monthes do you know how much it will be? And is this a good brand?

Olympus SP-550 UZ: 18x ultra zoom

Olympus is an excellent brand.

I had a C4000 that I really liked. If the reviews are decent, I am sure the 550 will be a great camera.

$499.00
if you wait a few months
it will come down to $450.00
keep checking on shopzilla.com

The MSRP will be $499 - while Olympus is not as popular as Canon & Sony, it does have lots of loyal users/supporters - see here for some discussion on this highly anticipated camera:

For me, I would wait for a detail review by one of the digital camera websites.

I want a good SLR like digital camera that has underwater housing?

The Olympus SP 550 UZ is 545 GBP (both camera and housing) but gets mixed reviews. !!!

Does this come with a wide angle lens as standard??

The Canon S3 - IS looks great but the housing is the very professional 60 meter version and very expensive 500 GBP
Does anyone know if Canon is planning a 40 meter housing? like with the S1 - IS?

I love the Fuji Fine pixs 9500 looks hot but can't find a housing for it :o(
Will they be planning one?
I'm willing to spend 600 on it all

All SLR cameras are too expensive and too professional (me being a amatuer)
I want good zoom, wide angle and macro (lens?)

I have a great compact for compact occasions but the housings have been discontinued and besides i want to treat myself to a really good camera for my diving and arty pics.

Is their a good place to talk to divers who might have these cameras so i can talk to people like me?

Any advice greatly appreciated people cheers?

I used to use a housing with my 35mm on photo dives. Most housings are pricy. Additionally most of your better pictures are obtained from shallower depths. I.E. lighting and color is not degraded. Although I'm a Nikon fan, Olympus makes a VERY interesting compact 7.1MP camera that takes video as well as stills. this camera is waterproof down to 33' and cost less than $ 400.00. Heres the link

How does mm translate into optical zoom? Like the 40 - 150mm lens, or a 300mm lens?

I was looking at the Olympus Evolt E500 DSLR, but I cant find out how the mm translates into Optical zoom. I want something with at least a 10 Optical. I think I may go with the Olympus SP 550 UZ, because it is a 18 optical and it takes video. I dont think an SLR will do that. And Thank you for looking at/answering my question.

I'm not certain you truly know what you're asking for. You say you're looking for a "10 x" zoom. A 18-200mm lens is a 11x zoom. A 200-400mm lens is a 2x zoom. A 300mm fixed focal-length lens has no zoom. But you can see they are very different lenses for different purposes.

Nevertheless, if one of your requirements is to be able to record video, you are correct - an SLR is not designed to do that. So your question about how to translate focal-lengths in milimeters into the zoom ratios used in all-in-one cameras is moot.

The Olympus SP-550-UZ is a good choice. It is Popular Photography's Editor's Choice for all-in-one designs.

are filters compatible with my camera?

i just bought an oylmpus sp 550 uz and id really like to use a photo filter although im not sure if theyre compatible with it. also, where would i buy them from and whats the average price?
thanks in advance

Cokin does make a filter holder, utilizing the "A" size filters, that screws into your tripod socket. Real short money, but be careful to check if your lens will hit it when you zoom out. They came out with the holder system way before these mega range zooms, and I've heard of some issue's.

Purchase through B and H Photo Video

G' Luck with it.

What does a telephoto lens do?

Say I want to ad a 3.0X telephoto lens onto my olympus sp-550 uz, which already has 18x optical zoom, then what would the final optical zoom be? I can think of 2 things... 21X OR 54X (keeping in mind that the last one sounds too good to be true...)

Thank you for watching and answering!
PLEASE people.. i dont need to know anything else than just 21 or 54? witch is it... no more information needed... thank you!

how do i take a picture of ...?

lightning and music concerts. i have an olympus SP-550 UZ if that helps at all

http://flickr.com/photos/21125021@N05/2826839724/meta/

This was taken at concert- notice the setting the camera used- I set the iso at 1600 and let the camera do the rest. I used the p mode because of the lighting changing very quickly from very bright to very dark. Also do not use flash.
