Olympus SP560 UZ - demonstration video

How come my Olympus SP-560 UZ digital camera only saves pictures to the internal memory and ignores the card?

I've formatted 3 different xD cards (2 of them new), and nothing works. I've spent forever looking through the camera, and the closest thing I can find is the section on "backup" - which is dimmed and I can't access it. (It just skips from "memory format" -- which I've done -- to "language".

From page 66 of the manual:
"Pictures are not recorded to the internal memory when a card is inserted in the camera." - This is pretty obvious.

From page 67:
"If you use a non-Olympus card or a card used for another application, such as for a computer, use [FORMAT] function to format the card" - I assume you are formatting the card in the camera on not on a computer right?

Are you using a compatible card?
xD-Picture Card (16 MB - 2 GB) (TypeH/M, Standard)

If you've made sure the above three conditions are met, then it sounds like you've got a faulty camera. Check your warranty expiration and contact Olympus about it.

Will a Olympus SP 560 UZ camera be compatible with a Canon Selphy ES1 compact photo printer?

Can I "plug" the camera into the printer somehow and print pictures or use the xD card from the camera and plug that into the printer? Thank you!!

Maybe, but usually the card readers on printers connect to the computer and have to be copied to the computer and then using a photo program, print to the printer using the printers "properties" to tell the printer that you are using photo quality paper and what size the print paper is as well as the size of the image.

questions regarding my olympus SP-560 UZ camera?

I bought this camera after researching all brands and types. I really love it and noticed that I can take video. Only problem is that there is no sound with the video. Has anyone purchased this camera and if so do you have the same problem as I. Also I tried contacting Olympus several times, but no answer. Is my camera defective or did I make a bad purchase.

This camera can record sound, but you may need to check your setup to see that the microphone has been enabled. I have an earlier ultra-zoom, and there is a menu setting to enable the sound.

can you take the Olympus SP-560 UZ camera underwater?

i was looking up on different cameras, if i bought this one can you take it underwater to take photos?
when i researched it it said for additional features

Landscape, portrait mode, night portrait, landscape-portrait, candlelight portrait, fireworks, panorama assist, night scene, sports mode, sunset, indoor, cuisine, candle, beach, auction, underwater macro, snow, available light portrait, underwater wide 2, underwater wide 1, shoot & select 2, shoot & select 1, documents

No, that camera is not waterproof. You would need to get a waterproof case for it.

If you want waterproof cameras you'll need to look at these:

http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_digital_sw.asp

EDIT: In response to your additional information, those underwater modes are for if you have it in a case. Since the lighting is different underwater it has modes to take the best pictures possible down there.

2nd EDIT: Here's a quote from the list of features: "Underwater shooting up to water pressure equivalent of 40m possible in combination with optional underwater case PT-037". That case is $280US on Amazon.

Hey! I agree with the comment before me. It isn't water proof you would need to get a casing. Here is a great place for the best under water cameras.

they recommend the Olympus Stylus 850SW 8MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom.

Hope this helped!!! :)

Battery charger for Olympus \digital camera SP-560 UZ...?

Can you please recommend a good one that isn't too expensive either?

Since your camera uses AA batteries, you can buy a charger with 4 AA-NiMH batteries for under $40.

Does anybody knows any pros and cons of new Olympus SP-560 UZ? I need live information, not review.?

I'm prepearing a post about this gadget for my blog and I'm in need of your opinions. I already published some users opinions about previous 18x SLR-like at my post: http://fototramp.blogspot.com/2007/09/compare-fujifilm-s8000-olympus-sp550.html
but I'm a little biased to ultrazooms.

check out cnet.com for user comments/reviews ;)

Which digital camera is better Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18S or Olympus SP-560 UZ .... HELP!!!?

Hey,
I need to buy a cam for a present with a very high optical zoom and these are thr 2 cams im contemplating. They seem the same to me except the olympus has some special editing feature and also is 100 bucks more expensive. Could someone that knows about cameas tell me which one is better regardless of the price OR could you suggest another non SLR high zoom, high quality cam for me to buy? Thanks:)

Those are all fine cameras. You won't be disappointed with any of them. I think it comes down to personal preferences like the storage cards, battery types, if you want to take images in RAW format, camera feel, customer reviews, scene modes, budget, etc.

what do i do to get zoom error off my camera?

i have an olympus sp-560 uz and when i turn it on it says zoom error pops up and i tried several times to get it off but i can't. what can i do?

Any ideas for my first time SLR camera?

I'm looking for my first SLR camera.
I want it $500 and under.
I want 8+ pixels.
I want a really nice camera.
And i'm very nervous about buying one.

I was looking into:
--Kodak EasyShare Z885
--Olympus SP-560 UZ
--Canon Digital Rebel XT

If you have opinions on those,
or suggestions for more cameras,
Please help me out:)

The Rebel XT is the ONLY SLR in your list. You should also look at the Nikon D40, which is an excellent choice in the $500 price range.

I have not posted this answer for a week or so, so you are the lucky winner:

The Nikon D40 is a great little camera, very easy to use and quite reasonably priced. It's just under $500 with a lens. It has a few "consumer friendly" totally automatic modes that make it very easy to use - including a "Child Photo" mode - but still offers total photographic control when you are ready to take charge. It will get you in the Nikon family which is a great place to be. If you buy accessories and lenses, you will be able to use everything on any Nikon that you might upgrade to later on. The user manual is among the easiest to use, also, including three pages of "frequently asked questions" that could put Yahoo! Answers out of business.

Check out Nikon's "Picturetown" promotion, where they handed out 200 D40's in Georgetown, SC. http://www.stunningnikon.com/picturetown/

Here are a few reviews, in case you have not read them yet. Be sure to note that they are several pages long and some of the reviews also have some sample images that you can look at.

I hate to see people slam the camera because it can't autofocus with older Nikon lenses. It is true that there is a "slight problem" with older Nikon lenses not autofocusing on the D40, but if you do not own a bag full of older lenses, it is not going to be a problem. It is barely a problem anyhow. If you check www.nikonusa.com for "AF-S" lenses, which are ALL 100% compatible with the D40, you will find 23 lenses, including 7 "VR" (vibration Reduction) lenses and one true macro lens with "VR". There are another 25-plus lenses in the current catalog that provide all functions except autofocus as well as many (possibly dozens) "out of print" lenses that will work just as well. In addition, although these lens will not autofocus, most of them will still give focus confirmation. From the D40 manual: "If the lens has a maximum aperture of f/5.6 of faster, the viewfinder focus indicator can be used to confirm whether the portion of the subject in the selected focus area is in focus. After positioning the subject in the active focus area, press the shutter release button halfway and rotate the lens focusing ring until the in-focus indicator is displayed." (See http://www.members.aol.com/swf08302/nikonafs.txt for a list of AF-S lenses or see http://www.nikonians.org/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=read_count&om=16715&forum=DCForumID201 for even more...)

The D40 only has 3 autofocus zones arranged horizontally at the center, 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions. This might be considered a limitation, but realistically, most people will find this perfectly adequate, especially if you are moving up from a point and shoot with only a center zone.

There is no "Status LCD" on top of the camera, but Nikon chose to use the rear LCD for this information. This is actually a nice move, as the display is bigger than the top display and you aren't using the read LCD for anything BEFORE you take the picture anyway. This is not a step backwards and it actually makes sense to me.

You can get the D40 with the 18-55 kit lens at B&H Photo available through Yahoo! Shopping or at 1-800-622-4987) for $500 (October 2007). Add a Lexar Platinum (60X speed) card for $25 or 2 GB for $35. Or - get the D40 with 18-135 lens and 1 GB Lexar card for $700. This is a decent lens and it is very versatile. You will find it suitable for pretty much anything you want to do, other than really long telephoto shots. It will let you explore the range of focal lengths to decide where to start filling in your lens collection. If you don't want to buy any more lenses, this one will carry you through pretty much everything. B&H also have used D40's with the lens from $475.

My camera won't play movies with sound?

Olympus SP-560 UZ Digital Camera is the model. We can record movies, but no sound. We set the silent mode to off, but can't figure it out

Silent mode is the wrong setting to use. You need to press the MENU button, then select CAMERA MENU, then scroll right down the bottom till you get to...
'Sound recording for movies (on/off)'. Select on.

good luck...
