Olympus Stylus 1030 SW | "Crushproof" camera?

USA TODAY's Jefferson Graham & Edward C. Baig try to get the truth in this video about Olympus's Stylus 1030 SW camera. It's ...

What kind of cable do i need to buy for a Stylus 1030 SW?

I found this awesome digital camera, I checked it out and it's features are amazing. But after it's battery ran out of juice. It has a usb insert port but the usb cable doesnt fit.Does anyone know what kind of cable I need to buy and where I can get one. I dont shop online.

What do you want the cable to do? Upload your pictures to your computer? Just buy a card reader. It will plug into your computer, and you put the memory card into the card reader. That way you don't need to use your camera, and it will save on your camera battery.

As for your battery, you will need a charger to charge it. Be sure it is the right one for that battery.

Go to a good camera store, take your camera and battery along, and ask for help with a charger.

Should I buy a Olympus Stylus 1030 SW camera?

I want a camera that can do everything. And this one seems perfect. Does it take good close up pictures of faces? How is the under water quality? Does anyone know any other camera's equilent to this one? Thanks! =]

Olympus compact digital cameras rarely have great to excellent image quality. The only reason I would ever buy one is if I was extremely clumsy (they're shockproof) or I needed a camera that enabled me to shoot underwater. Then again, I could always buy an underwater housing.....

Read the reviews to make up your own mind...

Is olympus digital camera mju 1030 SW and stylus 1030 SW are same thing?

If I remember correctly - stylus is American version and mju is a European version of this line of Olympus cameras. So if they are not the same, they should be very close. Perhaps mju comes with PAL and metric system as default settings, while stylus uses NTSC and English system.... You may be able to switch those either way though, but check the manual first!

Which waterproof camera should I buy? Pentax Optio W60 or Olympus Stylus 1030 SW?

I just want a camera that I can take snorkeling with me on a cruise this Spring and I'm sick of buying the disposable ones. Any suggestions? Anyone who owns these cameras?

I don't like Olympus because of: xD memory cards, lenses position, sensitivity to dynamic pressure (I saw 2 flooded 1030SW last year) and because it is capable of recording only 10 seconds of video in 640x480,30 fps mode.

W60 make better and sharper images (http://public.fotki.com/Primoz/1030swvsw60/ - pictures are from steves-digicams internet page)

W60 also has auto bracketing.

Pentax is durable enough for me: it survived 1 week in desert, 3 weeks of snorkelling without fresh water and 12 meters deep in Red Sea, but Olympus is capable to survive fall from height of 1,5 meters and you can step on it even if you weight 100 kg.

Check my underwater pictures: http://public.fotki.com/primoz/1030swvsw60/ and movies: http://www.youtube.com/profile_play_list?user=PrimozP

I have owned an Optio, but not the W series and I currently own the Olympus SW.

The Optio took great photos, especially macro, but was kind of slow and laggy. It also breaks easy, my buddies screen got destroyed.

The Olympus is awesome. You can smash it, freeze it, dunk it, etc. and it takes pictures without that wierd Optio lag. The only problem is the picture quality is not the most amazing, but is still a great camera.

I tell people all the time to by the Olympus because it is super durable and the underwater video feature is fun

I've never used one of those cameras myself, but I work at a Photo Centre and we sell cameras. I've found the Olympus to be extremely popular, though. It's underwater, plus it's totally weather proof and extremely durable, so it's pretty difficult to bust!

The only thing I don't like about Olympus cameras is that they take XD memory cards, which I really don't like. SD cards are becoming universal among cameras, so XDs are difficult to come across sometimes (anything bigger than a 2GB, anyways).

Date for new Olympus Stylus 1030 SW digital camera?

Can anyone tell me the date this thing will be available?

There's no specific date that's been announced - it's just slated for March sometime.

Does the olympus stylus 1030 sw silver 10mp have image stabilization?

Yes it does!

Hi guys, i looking forward to buy the Olympus Stylus 1030 SW.. Where in singapore can i find the lowest price?

@ the I.T. Show in Suntec Mall, Singapore.

Wait for the last 3 hours before closing u'll get the best bargain.

Is the Olympus Stylus 1030 SW Digital Camera 10.1 MP a good buy at $273?

And what type of media card to I need I have a SanDisk 1.0GB SD for a Canon camera right now. Do I need to get a new one?

I cant say what the US prices are like but that sound like a pretty good deal in comparison to what we'd pay in the UK (closer to $300).

As for the card you will need to get an xD card to go in the camera http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XD-Picture_Card

Olympus Stylus 1030 sw, is it a good camera?

i own the 770 sw and love it so i was thinkin about upgrading for the wideangle and the 10.1 mp. has anyone purchased it? what are your personal feelings on it. i have read company reviews but that doesnt really compare. ive also read all the specs about the camera. what do you think about it if you have used it?

some said the 1030 sw does not have IS. if by "IS" you mean image stabilization, the 1030 sw does have it
http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1363&fl=2
hey outdoor girl, thanks for answering, what are the drawbacks with the other xd cards? let me know if what you think about the 1030 if you keep using it. thanks!

As for the image stabilization, I guess that depends on your definition of it.

The fact is, neither the 770 SW, nor the 1030 SW, have MECHANICAL image stabilization, either lens-shift or CCD-shift. The specifications page for both cameras in the Olympus website clearly state that what these cameras use is “Digital” image stabilization... which is just another marketing euphemism for the old “ISO boost” trick... something than you can do anyway by manually increasing the ISO level, in just about any camera, with or without “digital” image stabilization. And, of course, this ISO increase comes at the cost of further degraded picture quality, whereas actual mechanical stabilization, either lens-shift or CCD-shift, doesn't compromise the image quality at all.

That said, the 1030 SW comes with several interesting improvements: wide angle, slightly larger LCD screen, slightly longer optical zoom (without compromising the lens' luminosity), face detection technology, dynamic range optimization (of the typical post-process kind, though, and not an actual improvement of the sensor's inherent dynamic range)...

... so, yes, it's something of an improvement over the older 770 SW model.

Whether those improvements are worth the price for you, only you can tell.

has anyone bought this camera? OLYMPUS STYLUS 1030 SW 10.1MP SHOCK & WATERPROOF camera?

just curious if you like it or have any review you'd like to share?

thank you:)

I have it, I've had it for almost a year, or at least long enough that I cant entirely remember. Its served me well so far and I expect it to continue to do the same for many a day to come. Its durable, waterproof, takes excellent pictures, has a good easy to manage layout and configuration. Its an all around good camera. If you're looking for a simple traveling camera to go on trips with you or for every day use without expecting anything professional from it is a good camera.
