Dell unveils their professional Windows 7 slate-styled tablet PC, the Latitude ST Tablets Planet

Unfortunately the processing for the Latitude ST tablet PC is handled (out of necessity) by a 1.5GHz Intel Atom Z670 single-core processor and Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 600 graphics. Dell like other Windows 7 tablet PC makers for 2011 have had to settle with Intel Atom chips to meet battery life targets (Dell rates the Latitude ST at up to 6 hours of operating life) and pricing targets (more powerful chips drive up the cost of the overall system).

In the storage, RAM, ports and other specification departments the Dell Latitude ST features just about everything one could wish for in a portable Windows 7 slate. The Latitude ST features up to 128GB SSD storage, 2GB of DDR2 RAM, a full-sized USB 2.0 port, a full-sized HDMI port, a full-sized SD card slot, stereo headphone/microphone combo jack, a slot for holding the tablets digital stylus, a docking connector for the tablets proprietary dock, Wi-fi 802.11 a/b/g/n 1×1, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, a 720p HD front-facing camera and 5MP rear camera, and an integrated digital microphone for video chatting without headsets.

Dell reports that they will be making the new Latitude ST tablet PC available for purchase on November 1st in 53 different countries (pretty much a full launch). At this time pricing hasn’t been revealed for the Dell Latitude ST tablet PC, not even an estimate.

Olympus Stylus 600 digital camera pics too light?

My Olympus Stylus 600 digital camera's pictures sometimes have too much white light. I thought the camera angle towards the sun was the culprit, but I get the same results indoors. I have set it on Beach/Snow for outside, but that didn't fix the problem. Can someone please help me? Thanks in advance.

go into menu and press the reset tab

Sounds like the camera's exposure meter is not calculating the correct exposure. You can adjust the exposure value (EV) setting to correct this. Start with -1 and see how the pics look. You can change in 1/3 ev settings. Try playing with it until you get a good looking pic. Note that the camera will expose differently for different lighting situations so check the pics oftne until you know how the camera will react under different lighting situations.

Don't judge pics by how they look on the camera screen--upload to your pc or print out to determine if they are exposed correctly.

sound with recording on digital camera?

i have an olympus stylus 600 digital camera...and there is a recording feature on it. but i can't seem to get the recordings to capture sound. does anyone know if these have sound or is it just recordings?

The camera will record movies but not the sound.

Aha! I can answer that!

I just got that very same camera.

Bad news is that the video recording does NOT have sound. It seems silly not to have sound but I guess they decided that it was not really required.

btw. I am a freelance photographer. At first I was disappointed by the quality of the photos coming from this camera. After some experimenting, I found that while it is difficult, it IS possible to get decent photos from the camera.

What settings should I put my Olympus Stylus 600 on for the best quality photo?

Obviously the setting on the camera allow you to adjust the settings for different situations, therefore asking what settings to put it on without identifying the application will result in an incorrect or incomplete answer. Secondly, the digital photography class is specifically designed to answer the broader question that you are trying to answer, so that would be the best place to ask the question.

There is no one set of settings that give the "best" quality photo. Depends on what you want.
As a general rule, though, if you can use a low ISO setting (like 100 or 200) you get less "noise" in the photo. And most lenses are a little better at middle apertures rather than the extremes.
If you are trying to stop action, a high shutter speed gives the best photo. If you are trying to blur action, a slow shutter speed is best. If you want great depth of field, a small aperture (large number) is best. If you want shallow d.o.f. a large aperture is best.

what is the best setting for a digital camera at a concert?

I have a Olympus Stylus 600 6.0 megapixal digital camera. Every time I go to a concert ALL my pictures turn out fuzzy. And it's not camera shake. What is the best setting for this other than getting closer seats (LOL)?

Well...getting close is a start...concerts are a tough shooting situation for any camera--even pro SLR's.

Your camera will go up to 1600 ISO (measures light sensitivity--higher is better--1600 is a very good setting for a point&shoot cam) but the resolution drops at this setting--but it's better to have a higher ISO to reduce shutter speed and freeze action than blurry high resolution pics.

So...set you camera at ISO 1600 and use "program mode". Or you can try using one of the scene modes--don't know exactly what settings the scene modes change but try "available light" and "candle" and see which one gives you better pics.

If you can experiment with the settings before the concert (shoot in a dimly lit room or out side at night) to see which mode(s) give you the best results then you won't have to fiddle with the cam at the concert and can enjoy the music.

You could also try setting the exposure compensation (ev) to -.3 or -.7. This will override the automatic light meter and give you a slightly faster shutter speed--although it may come at the expense of additional noise in you pics.

Try not to zoom in very much. The more you zoom in the more it reduces the amount of light the lens captures. (another reason to pay the extra $$ for good seats!!)

Turn off the flash it only works at close distances and may actually make your pics darker by increasing the shutter speed. Or give you perfectly exposed and sharp pics of the backs of people heads.

A couple shooting tips...

Hold your arms close in to your body when shooting or brace on a stationary object if you can. Also stand with one foot forward and one backward...this is a steadier stance.

Don't try to capture that mid-air jump or other scenes with a lot of action. Wait until there isn't much action and then snap the pic...it will be much sharper.

Good luck.

Bob

I can only think it's too bad you don't have more than 3X optical. More zoom would have helped with image stabilizer.
Try leaving your ISO on auto setting or set it for 400. Hardest thing to do is catching an entertainer still. But that's the key.
PS It takes practice. You must be perfectly still. I really wonder what your ISO setting is. I went to a concert May 21st and left ISO on auto. Found out later most shots were taken at ISO 320. My lighting at concert wasn't bad. Allow as I did for many blurry shots, so take a lot of photos. A good percentage will be blurry, but the more you take the more decent photos you'll have.

The fuzz is either coming from movement or it is coming from the camera operating at a very high ISO level. The camera
sets a high ISO to compensate for low light levels. It is the same as taking film pics with high speed film. The pics are very grainy - which would equate to your digitals looking fuzzy.

If you can control it, don't let the camera change the ISO setting. Lacking a high ISO will yield a movement issue.

Most people let the flash run at concerts, ball games, etc.
They end up with great pics of the person in front of them.
A flash only has a short range, maybe 10-15 ft. so turn it off.

Now that means that the camera will take the shot at a slow shutter speed because it doesn't see much light. That means it is more effected by any movement. Try using a monopod. A tripod with only one leg.

Also zoom in and take shots the don't include a lot of area that is lighted very different than what you want - like the lighted stage vs the dark audience.

good luck.

olympus stylus 600?

my dad asked if i could pick up a charger for him for his olympus style 600 digital camera. ive looked on radio shack, best buy, and circuit city's website..and i do not see the charger on any of them. any suggestions?
i need to buy it at a store..he wants it today

Don't know where you are, so it's hard to suggest specific stores. Try camera specialty stores. I'm thinking of stores such as Cord Camera and Wolfe Camera. It doesn't have to be made by Olympus. There are third-party chargers from companies such as Promaster that will work just fine with the battery from your dad's Stylus (not Style) 600. A third-party charger probably will be cheaper, too. I'd use the Yellow Pages and start calling around.

What is the Panorama feature on Digital Cameras?

My camera has this thing called the panorama feature. I dont understand how to use it or for that matter what its for. So if you know anything at all, please teach me. Tell me what it is, what its for, and how I can use it.
I have an Olympus Stylus 600 if this helps.
Thanks for your time.

how do i fix my digital camera screen?

I have a olympus camera, stylus 600 model. when i look at the screen i can only see the right side of the screen. It's like the left side is covered up but i don't see anything wrong with it. The camera still takes pics but of course it does not do me any good if i cant see the left side of it. i bought it used, so i have no box, warranty or manual. what should i do to fix the screen?

either the screen is knackered r there is a loose cable
its got to go somewhere to be repaired. try sending it back to Olympus to a quality camera repair setup.

they may offer a discount against a newer camera model, or a refurbished camera which may (at a slight premium) be a moe cost effective solution for you.. you get a better camera for not a lot more cash than the repair itself

What is a good site to learn the basics of Digital Photography?
