Olympus Stylus 790 SW review
Full review at: www.cameralabs.com : An eight minute video tour around the Olympus Stylus 790 SW, including its underwater capabilities by Gordon ...

I need help viewing the pictures on my Olympus Stylus 790 SW and on my computer.?
I recently purchased an Olympus Stylus 790 SW with Olympus Master 2. I uploaded a lot of pictures to my computer, but they've all disappeared! They've disappered from both my camera and my computer, even though I didn't delete anything. I need the pictures, so I would greatly appreciate anyone who could help me. I've searched my entire computer and I have no clue as to where they could have disappeared to.
Depending upon the "program" you used to transfer the images to your computer, there should be two things to look for ... 1) the default file folder that the program sends your image files to and 2) the option to delete the files automatically from your cameras memory card needs to be unchecked.
That said, buy yourself a nice little under $10 card reader and copy your image files using your computer skills to a file folder you name yourself and can find again.
IF after finding the default image file folder, you find that your images are not there, you will need to get an image recovery program and a second memory card. You can use the second card until you recover the images from the first. Using the old card, will assure that you will never recover any of the old image files, because you will have "written" over them with the new photos you take.

Should I get the Nikon S51 or Olympus Stylus 790 SW?
I really can't decide! Does anyone have either of these cameras? And where can I get the best price?
I have the Olympus.
It is outstanding.
I can take it swimming in the local
swimming pool.
I would definetly recommend it.
Go for the olympus.

Olympus 790SW
The high-resolution, 7.1-megapixel image sensor delivers superior quality for larger prints without sacrificing detail.
The precision-crafted 3x optical zoom Olympus lens delivers sharper, clearer images and brings you closer to the action without taking a step.
The 2.5" HyperCrystal™ LCD provides an extra-wide viewing angle and anti-glare technology that make it easy to compose and shoot. Plus, it lets you share photos with family and friends even in bright, direct sunlight.
Digital Image Stabilization combines high ISO sensitivity and faster shutter speeds so you can freeze the action to capture sharp, blur-free images.
Accidents happen, but the Shockproof Stylus 790 SW is nearly accident proof. A rugged metal body and revolutionary shock-absorbing construction are designed to withstand a 5-foot drop, bump or other mishap.
Take it swimming, snorkeling or to the water park. The revolutionary system of waterproof seals and gaskets keeps water out, so you can take movies and pictures as deep as 10 feet.
It's the ideal camera for the slopes and sledding with the kids, because it's winterized to perform at below-freezing temperatures (-10°C/14°F).
Face Detection makes it easy to take portraits. It tracks faces within the frame and automatically focuses and optimizes exposure for sharp, brilliant photos.
Shadow Adjustment Technology will help you capture all the amazing details exactly as you see them. You'll capture smiles, even in backlight scenes; you'll pick up detail, even in the shadows cast by bright sunlight.
Developed for the professional digital SLR, the TruePicTM III Image Processor redefines image quality by delivering true-to-life color, smoother edges and less noise.
Before you take the shot, let Perfect Shot Preview display the effects of various settings including zoom, exposure, white balance and metering - right on the LCD.
If you ask me i would suggest olympus as it looks stylyish and has many benefits too. there is very little difference between 8.1 and 7.1 megapixels. so you should go buy olympus

Is the Olympus Stylus 790 SW a good camera? Why do they sell $300 underwater housing for it...?
I think it looks cool and it would be one i wouldn't have to worry about breaking but is it worth $300 or however much i could get it for on shopzilla and do you have to buy the underwater housing for another $300 i thought it was waterproof on its own?
Waterproof housings allow you to go *deeper* underwater.
This site tells you all about the camera. It also lets you know that the camera can only withstand water up to a depth of 10 feet. (without the extra $300 waterproof housing)
It also tells you about it's other features as well.
I would imagine that as long as you don't plan on scuba diving with it, you should be ok.
can you change the Olympus Stylus 790 SW so it takes black and white photos?
Don't waste your time. Direct black and white images made in cameras are inferior to converted RGB image files
Two steps
* set the saturation on the file to -100
Save the imge as a different name so you do not overwrite the original file
* Set the black threshold, white threshold and then adjust the mid-tones until the image look's better
memory stick for stylus 790 SW?
i have an olympus underwater camera, the stylus 790 SW but when i ordered it it came with no memory stick so im wondering what memory stick i should use and buy for it?
thanks
Well don't buy a Memory Stick ... they only work on Sony products.
Your camera uses a xD memory card. Take you camera with you when you buy your card ... then there will be no mistakes.
This past weekend, 2 GB xD cards were on sale for $20
olympus stylus 790 sw shock and waterproof digital camera won't turn on. help!?
i took my olympus stylus 790 sw shock and waterproof digital camera i had for a while into some shallow water and now it won't turn on. i tried charging the battery but on the charger a red light keeps flashing. at first it turned on but only onto the play function but not on the camera bit and the lense doesn't open. its not the first time ive taken it under water. there is quite a lot of water and sand stuck inside it but i got most of it out and drying it but it still doesn;t work. please help!
i've taken it up to 6 metres before and it worked fine. also can't take it back as i bought it in canada and live in england.
It's 10 feet waterproof, so if shallow water broke it then I would send it back to where you bought it and say exactly what you told us.
Best answers are fun for everyone.
Do olympus stylus 790 sw's carge with the usb cable?
I lost the charger Where, How and How Much money to get a new one
No, it does not. You need to use the battery charger.
Hi! I have the Olympus Stylus 790 SW and I was wondering: do you just take it underwater or do acessories?
I have the same camera and in the past I took it to the oceanographic society and just submursed it into the stingray tank for some really cool underwater shots. I didn't use any protective casing. I just dunked it in as people staired as if I was crazy. I was nervous to do it at 1st but once you take the plunge you realize how cool this little camera is. Dunk it in and have a great time. Just follow the users manual and clean it the proper way. Do you realize to clean your camera in the users manual it states to do so in water. I haven't had any problems with this camera. In fact I love it. There are add on accessories you can purchase for it, check them out at the Olympus site.
Reviews on Olympus Stylus 790 SW and Olympus Stylus 850 SW?
First of all, which one of the two cameras would you say is better? There is a BIG price difference and I wanted to know if they were that different. Second, are they even that good of cameras? I have read some other reviews and most people say that they are simply amazing, yet others say that they are horrible! I have been wanting a good digital camera for a long time now. I would be using it mainly for nature photos, but also random, everyday photos. What would you suggest? Does anyone have any picture or video clip samples taken with this camera that I could see?

As for the 850 SW, it's too new and there are still no available reviews (at least not good enough).
Anyway, the 850 SW model doesn't seem to add anything interesting in terms of additional photographic quality -or, for that matter, even operative qualities.
So, if the 850 SW is that much more expensive, I'd definitely suggest going for the 790 SW model.
Can an Olympus brand Stylus 790 SW be used as a Web Cam?
Alright, so I have a digital camera, the brand and such in the question above. I was wondering, if anyone knew a place I could go to make it work as a web cam or if it already is capable of doing that? I was told I could go to some site and download a few things to make it work as one, but it was basically in computer speak and I couldn't understand it. I am not the greatest with this stuff, so if anyone could help me figure this out, and could explain in a way that I would understand, and it would actually work, it would be much appreciated, and I would repay in any way possible. I really really want to use this as a web cam, because I do not have the money to go out and buy a web cam. Please please please! I would give anything!
