The social soundtrack Observer Online

Has taken off in America with an overwhelmingly viral nature.

Spotify is not the only company offering social, digitally on-demand music experiences. Other players include Mog and Rdio (both also feature Facebook OpenGraph integration). There are some complaints against the services though, namely the ownership of music. The collection of music is a highly personal activity. People strive to create the most comprehensive collection to fit their needs, and as time progresses and people move through different phases of their lives, the music moves with them. The collection of an 80-year old man greatly differs from that of a teenager, not just in scope and style of music but even down to the media that sound is stored on. People desire connection with sound — be it emotional, analytical, rational, intimate or intellectual. There has even been a resurgence in the collection of vinyl LPs as a reaction against the perceived desensitivity in digital music. Some people would rather deal in the pure audio waveforms produced by a stylus tracing the grooves of a record and amplified to volume a la Faraday's law of induction. There is pride and community in the connections between collector and collection, and that is something very difficult to replicate in a space as electrically sterile as the web.

As of Nov. 30, 2011, Spotify is changing that. They are changing from a music distribution service to a music distribution platform. Spotify has opened up its services to developers who can now tap into their musical environment. The result will be massive democratization of on-demand digital music. At its launch, Spotify has announced internal applications developed by Pitchfork, Last.fm, Billboard, Fuse, The Guardian, Rolling Stone and Tune Wiki among others. Their bet is on people buying into the services provided and founded on Spotify and for those users to effectively build their own community around it. People will now go to Spotify to explore new types of music while simultaneously engaging with their friends on Facebook. Every song a user listens to will be codified into Last.fm's massive index, which will not only provide the information of what was listened to when, but the service will also passively use that data to provide recommendations. The technology isn't individually new, but it is the amalgamation of social connectivity, professional reviews, trend analytics and digital recommendations under one platform that make the development so significant.

The past, present and future of music are wholly personal and magnificently democratic. We all want to be explorers who delve into lands of mysterious sounds and return with gems of music to return to our collections. We all want to share our treasures and discoveries with those around us. Services like Rhapsody, eMusic, Pandora and iTunes got us to where we are today. But it's time for the giants of social to take over. It's time for life to be infused into digital music. It's time for us to take our music back.

this time it is a little diffrent

How long do phono cartridges last?

If moving coil cartridges can be retipped and moving magnet cartridges have replaceable styli, how long can a cartridge itself last? I have an Audio Technica AT130E that I bought back in the 80's with a 6 month old stylus on it and I'll put it up against any C.D. deck on the market.

I don't know for sure, but I've heard with proper care they can last ages. I bet if you typed in the info of yours into a search you could pull up all the info you want on it, to know for sure.

Check with your WebCam supplier whether it supports Vista. Few devises doesn't support Vista.

You can also check their web site whether any updates available for your web cam driver specific to Vista.

You will have to visit the web cam site and look for compatible drivers. Vista is notorios for hardware installation problems.

How well do non-genuine ink cartridges work for ink-jet printers?

i have an epson stylus photo 960 and need to get replacement cartridges. the last time i bought cartridges, i bought some no-name brand and it was terrible. they were only like $4/cartridge but half of them did not work. it was clogged and pretty much unusable.

i'm just wondering if the particular no-name brand i bought was just bad or if all no-name cartridges are no good. my printer takes 7 cartridges so it would cost about $80 for me to get genuine Epson. anyone have any experience or knowledge with this?

how well they work depends on a few things, really:

the no-name company and the inks they use
the printer itself and how it's programmed to work
and with epson, the amount of time cartridges are dry and/or out of the printer.

if you're using your printer for high-quality photos, i would recommend always buying epson-branded carts. i realize that is going to be expensive, but if your work has to be perfect, that's what you need to do.

if you try remans or compatibles again, keep in mind the odd ability of epson printers to clog if the carts are out for any length of time at all. keep some rubbing alcohol and qtips on hand for head cleaning if necessary.

not all no-name carts are terrible, but there definitely are brands out there that are more trouble than the savings is worth. my advice is to always check the return policy. if the company doesn't offer one, don't buy their stuff.

Ive always had real good luck with generic cartridges. Im not sure, you could of just gotten a bad bunch, or the generic brand you got was junk.

I had a photo 220, and all I used were generic cartridges. Got them off eBay. So try there. Not much else I can tell you, sorry.

Good luck though!

It is my practice to use brand name ink only while the printer is under warranty. After that I go to generic. If you buy from a reputable dealer, they will replace any cartridge with which you have trouble.

Unless you have an expensive, state-of-the-art printer - which I do not - try

www.carrotink.com

They run regular specials.

Do not buy ink until you are 3/4 down. Ink nozzles clog when they sit too long. When you get new cartridges, just before installing, shake them.

If you know you have a full cartridge which will not print, sit the cartridge in no more than 1/2 inch boiling water for a minute or so.

If you do not print daily or every other day, at least run through the print head cleaning process or nozzle check to keep the nozzles flowing.

If you need superior quality use original cartridges only.
If some what good print is acceptable you may use na name cartridges.
Not all no name cartridges are practically No name. They also have brand. Some brands are good and comes with warranty. Try to use them only.
Take at least one print everyday to avoid print head clogging. If you run maintenance process it unnecessarily wastes lot of ink.

All the best.

Epson stylus printer, rx680 Cis refill system harm my printer ?

I PRINT ALOT

i thought about buying one of these

http://www.superjetusa.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=14_9_80&products_id=108

i heard they you damage print heads if you refill ink , is this true ?

No, the chances of you screwing up your print heads with a continuous feed system are about the same as with normal cartridges.

In the old days you could overfill a cartridge and/or introduce excess air which would make the ink leak through the head, but with a continuous system that won't happen.

Try your local Walgreens, they just started re-filling the cartridges.

If they do not work atleast you can take them back. I have used them and I liked it, they provide the services with 20 mins waiting. If you are not printing pictures on a photo paper you will not see any difference. Prices ar Walgreens are 50% of the newere sealed cartridges.

Does anybody else listen to vinyl or am I in a time warp on my own?

Cd's, Tapes (another one to be exstigished ), Minidiscs and vinyl (Funny black 6 to 12 inch disc's that you placed a stylus on top of the record for it to play music). Am I the only one so far that belive's that sound repoducton from vinyl is better than cd?. Or am I stuck in the 80's with no way out!

Dude, you're not alone. Keep in mind, though, what you're hearing is a great recording that has that beautiful old rawness of a vinyl, with a slight hint of static and jive in all the right places.

CDs of course have purer sound, but maybe sound isn't meant to be so pure. Why would we want a symphony to sound better than it's supposed to sound. Before they invented the field of acoustics, it used to be about the music!

DJs especially will use vinyl far into the future. Every DJ I know has a sizeable collection and most prefer not to switch to digital or CD.

Which should i buy?

ok. so i have $80 dollars extra money- (4,000 in Philippine Peso- which is a bit big)

which should i buy?
1. a $45 dollar cd writer?
2 a 32 dollar Rusty Lopez leather shoes- school shoes- i still have shoes with the same brand and a bit new but used for a year.
3. a PDA that can play songs etc stylus that costs around 75 dollars. ASUS
4. keep the money for food.

Just choose one.... BE straight to the point!!! =)
I'm still a college student. yes i still have food...

By the 3rd choice.
PDA = organization = more efficient = more free time and money
= playing songs = fun = relaxed, less stress = productive
=stores songs = no need to write cd's

PLEASE HELP me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Yes that printer will work with windows vista

however depending when the model was initially released you may or may not receive the Windows VISTA drivers.

however you can safely purchase the printer and then download the wondows VISTA printer files from

I need to find a cheep DS Lite, where?

I will give anything to get a DS that is in the price range of 80 to 90 dollars. Exceptions: not survey sites to gain points. If it is ebay must have option of Money Order. NO, swoopo.com. Must be spam free, virus free, and REALLY REALLY safe if it is online. Must be in a Used, Like New, or New Condition. Must come with: DS Lite, Stylus, and a memory card(if there is one for a DS). i will do ANYTHING for it.

Ebay, Amazon stuff like that. I bought one from Ebay 50 bucks like new no scratches or anything.

Hope you find a good one!

Canon Pixma MX 310= bad quality photo prints?

I had an Epson, older version and the photos printed awesome on it. but it stopped working on me after years of use. So I read a lot of positive reviews for the canon pixma printers. I have to say I have been playing with the settings and just cannot get a good photo print. The photos come out too dark in areas, the image is blurred, not at all what I expected. I can't find any thing to work! any help / opinions?? Should I just take it back and purchase something else? This was only $80 and I planned on spending a little more money anyway.I usually print my digital scrapbook pages so I was expecting the print quality to at least match the quality of the Epson I have is a epson stylus R200

help!! Thanks!
