Does anyone own an Olympus Stylus 840?

hey im looking for a new camera, Olympus stylus 840 is on sale and the home page http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1364
makes it sound like the best camera there is, 5x zoom, image stablizer, shadow adjustment, lots of features and settings. what's wrong about it? does anyone have one that could help me decide if i should get it. what are the things that annoy you with it? thanks :D

I don't actually own one, but from these sites I think it sound pretty good:

Which camera is better? Samsung i85 or Olympus Stylus 840?

which one is better?

il go for an olympus stylus.... it has got better features than a samsung i85...i85 has only one plus point over olympus that it is available in more colours...thats all
and ya.... olympus is one sexy camera...go for it man

which is better?a nikon s550 or a olympus stylus 840?

which has better image quality.which one takes high quality video?

I don't have experience with neither camera. Looking at the specs, Nikon S550 seems a bit better than Olympus Stylus 840.

Good digital cameras, the Olympus FE-340 and the Olympus Stylus 840???

I'm looking into buying one of these two cameras, any people own these? What do you think of them?

Hi Jacquie. Looks like no one is answering :(, so I will try. The Olympus digital line is actually a pretty nice camera. They are very popular at the store that I work. For one reason, is it is a sleek and attractive camera, and another it has lots of features for a nice, affordable price. I would seriously consider the 840, because it is kind of an upgrade to the 340... meaning you are already ahead of yourself when the new model comes out in about 24 hours. (LOL like they always do, once you think you have the latest and the greatest, something else comes out and makes you mad that you didn't wait!!!). I have older models of the Olympus digital cameras and they take wonderful pictures. I wish I could send you a couple that I have taken with it. Don't second guess the Olympus if that is what you like. It is going to be your camera. I can only suggest that along with your camera you buy a small, padded camera pouch... it will help keep scratches off your camera and lessen the jolt if you drop it. Good Luck from Texas.

Canon Powershot SD1100IS, Fujifilm FinePix Z20fd or Z100FD, Casio EXILIM EX-Z80VP, or Olympus Stylus 840??????

Which one should I get?? I would be using the camera mostly indoors for pictures of friends and family, so detail is important. I also want it to take good pictures at night. I'm going to Vegas next month so I want really good pictures for when we are in the club and outside! I don't know much about cameras so please help. All these cameras cost about the same so price isn't an issue here.

Also, the Fujifilm FinePix Z100FD and Olympus Stylus 840 are the only ones with 5x optical zoom. The rest are 3x zoom, but is that really important if they are for indoor pictures of people?? I read mixed reviews about the Fujifilm FinePix Z100FD, some people love it, others hate it. And then my friend just got the Olympus Stylus like yesterday so I don't want to have the same one as her! So I hope the optical zoom isn't an issue........

Get the Canon model that you list, or a Fujifilm (but not the model you list. See below).

Casio is prone to breaking, and Olympus doesn't do digital cameras well.

Fujifilm is more sturdy than another answer here would suggest. Any camera breaks if you drop it! That's why they come with a wrist strap, so you don't.

I'm a big fan of Fujifilm, but if you're mainly taking night photos, I would suggest the Finepix F20 (or its successors the F45fd and F50fd) instead. These get much better reviews for low-light pictures than the Z series: http://www.steves-digicams.com/2007_reviews/fuji_f20.html

This is a FAST camera! It takes night and action shots like a ninja.

You can go to a bar, get increadibly drunk, and your vision will get blurry before your pictures do! I'm not joking; this has happened to me. It's amazing. Any of the camera's scene mode will get you sharp pictures, but I think Party mode gives a better sense of the ambient light in clubs and bars.

Don't be turned off by the fact that it's 6MP. That's enough to print a 20 x 30" poster! What more do you need? Picture sharpness is mainly determined by shutter speed (not MP), and the Fujifilm F20 has plenty of that!

You may get good results from the Canon SD1100 IS also, but that's significantly more expensive than the Fujifilm F20 ($140 new on ebay). If all you are concerned with is getting good pictures in challenging situations, why not pocket the difference?

can i use kodak easy share battery with olympus stylus 840?

No.

Kodak EasyShare cameras use Kodak's EasyShare batteries and some accept various standard batteries as well. The Olympus Stylus-series cameras use proprietary batteries made for Olympus cameras only.

what digital camera is better:nikon coolpix s550, fujifilm f100fd, sony cybershot dsc w170, olympus stylus 840

or lumix fx500, pentax optio z10 or samsung s1050?

They are all good point and shoot camera ... Just pick the one that has the features you think you may need.

Just remember that the Fujifilm and Olympus are the only cameras that use xD memory cards and the Sony the only camera that uses Memory Sticks. All the rest use SD memory cards, Nikon, Pentax, Panasonic and Samsung ... as well as a host of others.

You can search and compare their features here:

does the olympus stylus 840 have "stamps"?

What I mean by stamp is that with the face detection you can add bunny ears and other stuff around peoples faces. please answer!!

I would never use such a feature in-camera - you have way better control doing it later in post processing, plus you get to keep a proper original photo, too.

Is the "OLYMPUS Stylus 840 8.0 MP Digital Camera 5x" any good?? Looking for some reviews.

I think its very cute and sleek looking, and i absolutely love that, and the fact that its 8MP is great too. So if anyone owns/owned this camera I would like to hear how you liked (or disliked it). It it worth the money?

I'm not looking for something really super advanced( since they range to expensive) but i'm looking for a decent enough quality for an amateur photographer.

try this site to check that particular camera. they test EVERYTHING about cameras. if they haven't done that particular model yet, then the model above or below will have been tested. it's a terrific site for camera info.http://www.steves-digicams.com/hardware_reviews.html
