How do you film a time lapse? Is it possible to film one with a Sony dcr-hc62?

I just found out what a time lapse is and i thought they are really cool and would like to know if i can film them with my Sony dcr-hc62. If it is possible to do with my camera, how would i be able to do it with my camera?

most time lapse sequences are best done with a still camera and flash. the pictures are stitched together in a computer to make a "movie". This is how events that happen over several days are shot. However miniDV, like your camera shoots, can be "speeded up" in most editors. This is not the same as time-lapse but will give that appearance. This works good for moving cloud shots and similar events that take less than 1 hour to happen.

What accessories can I attach to the Sony Handycam DCR-HC62?

I want to get an external light and microphone for the Camcorder, but I am unsure as to whether or not it has a show mount. If it doesn't, what should I use instead?
I mean a SHOE mount, not show mount

You might *want* to get an external mic for that camcorder, but there is not external mic jack and there is no Sony proprietary Active Interface Shoe on that camcorder... so there is no method to connect an external mic.

The only way I can think of to improve audio with that camcorder (without replacing the camcorder) would be to use a "field recorder": M-Audio, Edirol, Marantz, Sony and Fostex are example manufacturers. When you edit the video, replace the audio that was captured by the camcorder with the audio captured by the field recorder.

As for video lights, any will work - you just need to add your own cold shoe for mounting the light to the camcorder... using a camera bracket like
http://www.amazon.com/Bower-Shoe-Video-Light-Bracket/dp/B000NL5X5S/ref=pd_bbs_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1214064213&sr=8-2
Because this is a cold shoe, the video light needs its own power and cannot use the camcorder's battery.

Go to http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00123UGTO?ie=UTF8&tag=motionpicturecentral-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00123UGTO and scroll almost to the bottom. There is a section of recommended accessories.

This camcorder does not have a hotshoe, but you could get http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NL5X5S?ie=UTF8&tag=motionpicturecentral-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B000NL5X5S and use any video light or external microphone.

If you want a good quality external audio connector, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FT7S0Q?ie=UTF8&tag=motionpicturecentral-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B000FT7S0Q is considered one of the best. There is a video about it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOGKJ6mVkDU

I have a Sony DCR-HC62 MINI DV HandyCam. How to make a DVD or a Cd from the Digital Vedeo cassett?

How to make a DVD from a Vedeo Cassett.

ALL miniDV camcorders use a DV port for transferring DV-format video. Your computer needs a firewire port. If it does not have one, they are easy and cheap to add if your computer has an expansion slot.

DV, i.LINK, firewire400 and IEEE1394a are all the same thing.

You will also need a 4-pin to 4-pin or 4-pin to 6-pin firewire cable. The DV port on the camcorder is always 4-pin. The computer's firewire port can be 4-pin or 6-pin.

Once this is set up, with the camcorder in "Play" or "VCR" mode, Windows MovieMaker can "capture" the video from the camcorder. WinDV is also a good (free) application to use. Windows MovieMaker can provide basic editing. When editing is done, here are several DVD authoring tools... WinDVD comes to mind... These DVD authoring applications let you build scene selection menus and take care of rendering the video out to a DVD that can be played back in regular DVD players. This assumes you have a DVD burner in (or connected to) your computer.

CDs do not hold enough data (700 meg) - so if the video is REALLY short (3 minutes or less?), you might be OK - but DVDs will hold more information (4.7 gig for single layer or 8.5 gig for double layer - it depends what your computer's DVD burner is capable of handling).

Great answer from Little Dog! Once you've finished editing you could use DVD Flick to make the DVD - its menu options are very basic, but it's free!

To keep the quality as high as possible, in WMM, save your video as DV-AVI (it's under Save on My Computer, Best quality show more choices, Other settings) and then write it to DVD using DVD Flick.

How can I use my Sony DCR-HC62 as a webcam?

I have one of them but im not sure, I think it had said it when i brought it but i havent been able to fix it up as a webcam

Is a DCR-HC62 MiniDV Handycam® Camcorder compabatable with a VMC-14UMB2 1.4 Meter Mini Plug to USB Cable?

If you want to transfer video from the miniDV tape, USB will not work. You need to use firewire - also known as i.LINK or IEEE1394a. You need a firewire port on your computer. Install one if you don't have one... hopefully your comuter has available expansion slots.

Transferring DV from the miniDV tape will not work if you try to use USB.

No, a USB - firewire converter/adapter will not work.

i dont know how to hook up my Sony Handycam DCR-HC62 into the computer?

like i know how to put in the USB and stuff. But how do i get it to actually work. Like is there a place in the menu that says mass storage or something? i have installed all software and everything. Please help

If you want to transfer the video you need a iLink or firewire cable & a firewire port on your PC!! Follow the link below to the Sony support site for your camera. There are tutorials and live help is available if needed. Good luck!!

Sony DCR-HC62?

I will be purchasing the Sony DCR-HC62 camcorder from the US whilst on vacation there. I did notice that they do a PAL version (i'm guessing the original in the US is NTSC) Is this something i need to look out for? Does this mean that it records to the tape as PAL or NTSC? Will this make a difference if i am copying onto my computer/DVD etc?

Also are there any other issues from buying a camcorder in the US and using in the UK? Battery? Charging etc?

Thanks in advance!

DCR-HC62-E (PAL version also sold in the US) - use international plug adapter
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?shs=DCR-HC62E&ci=1820&sb=ps&pn=1&sq=desc&InitialSearch=yes&O=productlist.jsp&A=search&Q=*&bhs=t
or
http://www.lenexpo-electronics.com/ATLONA-MULTI-SYSTEM-PAL-NTSC-VIDEO-CONVERTER-p-16318.html
or
some later versions of intermediate video editing apps give the editor a choice of NTSC or PAL/SECAM tv system output

Sony DCR-HC62 MiniDV Camcorder Help?

Hey guys, I have a Sony DCR-HC62 MiniDV Camcorder. I was wondering if there is a way to hook up a remote microphone to it. I do a lot of racing videos with my camcorder mounted on the outside of the cars and the wind noise is really bad. I would like to have the camcorder wounted on the outside of the car and the mike on the inside away from the wind. any thoughts
Is the a good quality miniDV camcorder that has a microphone input??. good night video recording too

So far as I know the DCR-HC62 doesn't have a microphone input. You can record the audio separately and edit it in though. If you've got an MP3 player see what you can do with it - a lot of them have built in mics.

Anyone that has a Sony MiniDV Handycam Camcorder DCR-HC62???

All that i have to ask is can you film to a memory card, then put it on your computer??? If so, what kind of memory card does it support (compactflash, sd), and are the videos the same on the camcorder as they are on the ps (quality, sound, etc.)

btw, i have a memory card reader on my pc

THANKS

Its late and my dad has the camera if no 1 has answered ill check and edit this post.

How to download video from Sony DCR-HC62 Handycam?

I just got a new Sony DCR-HC62 Handycam and cannot figure out how to downlaod the video to my computer using the USN cable.

The program I downloded from their cd says that i.Link cannot find tape, but I don't even have a i.Link cable.

Is their a easy way to get it with the USB cable?

With my Sony digital camera, when I plug in the USB cable and turn it on, it automatically ask me if I want to download pictures, but nothing when I do it with Handycam.

Thanks much!
