Drop the ones with a hard drive because of the know issues with vibration, high altitude, file recovery and making archives.
Drop DVD based camcorders because of short record time, problems converting the video and poor video quality due to high compression.
That leaves Flash memory. The video quality won't be as good as miniDV tape, but that is up to you. Before you buy, if you end up getting an AVCHD camcorder, be sure your video editor can handle AVCHD for the camcorder you are getting. MovieMaker cannot handle AVCHD at all. It is possible that not all Windows video editors claiming AVCHD compatibility can handle AVCHD from all manufacturers. iMovieHD08 running on an Intel Mac can handle AVCHD from all camcorders. AVCHD is used by hard drive and flash memory (and DVD) based camcorders for storing and compressing high definition video. Standard definition is generally stored as highly compressed MPEG2.
MiniDV tape uses least compression on DV (standard definition) and HDV (high defnition).
More video compression = discarded video data = ruduced video quality
Camcorder Comparison. Which is the better HD camcorder Canon HF100/HF10 or the Sony HDR-CX12?
i need help picking between the three camcorders
I have been debating between the two as well. However, after reading a lot of reviews....I am going with the Sony CX12. The Canon HF100 is rated very well, but it has a cooler "blue" hue to the video whereas the Sony is a warmer natural color. The Sony will record to standard DVD's whereas the Canon only records in High Definition using AVCHD which can be a pain to make a DVD.
What is the difference between the "Sony HVR-HD1000u" and the "Sony HDR-CX12"?
the 1000u is in 1080i and i believe that the HDR-CX12 is in 1080p, which is better quality, yet it is so much cheaper. I need the differences between them and try to be detailed. I already know that one is more bulkier and the other one is shakier. Here are the links
Sony HVR-HD1000u- http://pro.sony.com/bbsccms/ext/hdv/hvrh...
Sony HDR-CX12- http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stor...
I NEED A CAMCORDER FOR FILMING MOVIES, AND I AM NOT A BEGINNER SO I NEED A CAMERA SO IT WILL LOOK LIKE A PROFESSIONAL MOVIE THAT YOU WOULD WATCH AT A MOVIE THEATERS, AND IT HAS TO BE ONE OF THESE CAMCORDERS OR ANOTHER ONE THAT IS UNDER 1,400$, AND IF IT WONT LOOK LIKE A PROFESSIONAL MOVIE I WANT THE CLOSEST THING FOR THAT PRICE
The 1000U is shoulder mount. The CX12 is not. Advantage 1000U. In either case, use a tripod, steadicam device, camera crane or some other stabilizer. NEVER shoot handheld.
The 1000U has manual audio control, The CX12 has only a "MicRef Level" switch for normal or low mic gain. Advantage 1000U.
Both have a 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo audio jack. Use a BeachTek or juicedLink XLR adapter for pro-grade mics.
The CX12 does not do 1080p. Both can do a digitally derived "Cineframe" that is not very good.
The 1000U saves to HDV file format. The CX12 save to very highly compressed AVCHD files. Advantage 1000U.
The 1000U uses miniDV tape and can record in standard definition DV and high definition HDV formats. The CX12 records to a hard disc drive. Advantage 1000U.
The 1000U has the same lenses and imaging chip the CX12 uses.
Please keep your expectations in perspective... You say "NEED A CAMERA SO IT WILL LOOK LIKE A PROFESSIONAL MOVIE THAT YOU WOULD WATCH AT A MOVIE THEATERS, AND IT HAS TO BE ONE OF THESE CAMCORDERS OR ANOTHER ONE THAT IS UNDER 1,400$". But most of the movies in theaters are shot using Sony CineAlta, Panavision, Arri, VariCam film or Red cameras... They start at about $80,000.
You will not have the same quality or control in a "prosumer" camera. Both the HD1000U and the CX12 have small consumer lenses and imaging chips - their low light behavior will not be very good. If your lighting is good, the 1000U is a much better bet.
..the HDR-CX12 is a consumer camera./.its defintly NOT a professionals camera..
..it has some nice features but really has NOT one Pro-feature..and its Lens is only 12x Optical Zoom(crappy).
Sony HDR-CX12 or Canon HF11?
Home video's and Traveling is what i am mostly filming..
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
