Is the HDR-SR12 120GB High Definition Handycam® Camcorder a good video camera?
I'm thinking about getting that camcorder. I'm just wandering your opinion on this. Is it a good investment or is there something out there about that price thats better???
The price is around 1,000
If you are OK with the fact that hard disc drive (HDD) camcorders have known problems with vibration caused by loud audio and not being able to record video... and when at high altitude (over 9,800 feet) and not being able to record video... and potential challenges when the hard disc crashes and getting the data off the hard drive... and the extra steps you need to take to archive or back up the video before you start editing... and the highly compressed AVCHD format video that cannot be handled by many video editors unless you have the most current version and a REALLY fast and NEW CPU in your computer (and MovieMaker cannot deal with AVCHD video at all - no matter what version)... Then I guess it is OK...
But the better investment will be to bypass the HDD and either stay with the known DV/HDV of miniDV tape or move to flash memory. If you must have Sony, HDR-HC9 or HDR-CX12. Otherwise, the Canon HV30 or the HS series.
